This episode of The Water Sifu is the last in the series, so this show is my way of saying goodbye to those who have been listening and hello to new listeners.  I wrap up some topics from last week, throw in a few small rants, talk about what my plans are going forward, and sign off.

In this episode of the water sidu I answer your questions about getting certified and getting hired in the water industry.

This show focuses on pumps and motors, specifically volute and turbine centrifugal pumps.  We go into depth about the types of pumps, how they work, parts of the pumps and motor assembly, and causes of pump failure, focusing in depth on cavitation.

Part 2 of 2 in a series on water quality issues and treatment techniques... In this show we pick up right where we left off on the last show, covering tastes and odors in detail, oxidation, iron and manganese, granulated or powdered activated carbons, air stripping, and trihalomethanes.

Water Treatment techniques are covered in detail over the next two shows, with this being Part One.  In this show we cover Waterborne Pathenogens, Turbidity,Corrosive Water,and Excessive Hardness.

The meat of this episode focuses on some water chemistry subjects which can inititally be difficult to grasp, specifically the subjects of ph, alkalinity, and calcium carbonate saturation.  We will discuss them in detail, explaining how they interact and affect each other.  We will also get into discussing calcium carbonate saturation, and talk about how controlling this, through marble tesing or use of the langolier saturation index, can help control corrosive water or deposition of scale in water systems.

In this episode of The Water Sifu we focus on several different types of meters and valves you will find in a distribution system.

With the poplularity of the last "Water Treatment" audio flash cards episode, I have had many people request I do another with an emphasis on "Water Distribution System" exam preparation.  This week we will do just that....

This week focuses on everything having to do with water main construction and installation... pipe types, joints, soil types, competent person, trenching and shoring, excavations, pipe laying, backfilling, and flushing / bac t proceedures.

This week we spend a little time discussing the direction I will be taking the show in the future, and then jump right into the meat of the show. We discuss drinking water supplies, surface water, ground water, and wells.  All this info is essential for anyone planning to take an upcoming exam.
