    About this Episode

Since all of us had a major power outage this week, well, I thought we should talk about what to do when you are down. Now, I don't mean drinking alone, I mean down, as in, the internet, power, or battery. Our dependence on the internet is at an all time high, you need a plan to use when this happens.

The Final Show - Secure Digital Life #114

It's the last SDL. Really. We have had 2 + years of fun and games here at Security Weekly, but it's time for the SDL team to ride off into the sunset (or at least crash into the sunset billboard. I want to thank Russ, Paul, Sam, Mark, John and Joe for all the good times and great shows. Today, though we are going to do one last show covering "the interview". As Russ and I will have to interview for new hosting jobs soon, well, everyone has to interview for jobs. It sucks, you hate, we hate it, but you need to prepare. So, today, we invited Pam Fournier back to talk to us about questions with good and bad answers to interview questions. Hang around for the last one.

Gaming Consoles - Secure Digital Life #112

So, a viewer wrote in about Video Game consoles and asked if they were a security threat to your home? I thought this was an interesting question so Russ and I are going to look into this today on SDL.

Pam Fournier, RWU - Secure Digital Life #111

Pam Fournier, RWU - Secure Digital Life #111

Ok, we've all been there, that glaring moment when you threw up in Dean Wormer's lap, when you told off the idiot in the parking lot that got the space you were angling for and it turned out to be the person you were interviewing with, or even when you asked walked into the interview with a list of demands and the interviewer laughed out loud. It happens. Now, Russ never blows interviews and I usually screw up royally but nevertheless, we decided to bring someone in that actually knew what they were talking about. We welcome Pam Fournier, career expert and advisor, today on Secure Digital Life.

Preparing & Dealing with Ransomware - Secure Digital Life #110

In keeping with the theme of Ry Cooder songs, not to mention the City of Baltimore just not getting it, I thought we should review ransomware again to give you our thoughts on preparing and dealing with Ransomware. C'mon let's get this right.

The Lair of the White Worm - Secure Digital Life #109

The Lair of the White Worm - Secure Digital Life #109

Malware has come a long way since the day of the "Stoned" floppy disk virus. Or has it? The original worm was in 1988. Today, we talk about what a worm is, how worms work, and how they spread, on SDL.

Spy Cameras - Secure Digital Life #108

Now, I know Russ and I kind of enjoy it when someone wants to watch us in the shower but I bet you don't. Today, you can buy all kinds of spy gear for just about nothing and the world has no shortage of pervy types. I brought my collection of spy cams to show you. So, how do you defend yourself when you are in a dressing room, hotel or rented space? It's not easy but you need to strategize to stay off a live cam.

The Dark Web - Secure Digital Life #107

The Dark Web - Secure Digital Life #107

It's out there. Really scary kids. It's the dark web. Full of unsavory people, a LOT of intelligence undercover operatives, and all sorts of dark goodies that you probably don't want anyway, unless you do. It's also about anonymity. What if you have a problem with excessive eyelid hair? A strange desire to drink human tears? What is it, where is it, and how do you get to it.

HateStream: Social Media - Secure Digital Life #105

Today, it's the Russ show. I am here but I am going to let Russ run it. Maybe it's an ominous sign of my impending doom. Hard to say. We are going to talk about Social Media. I mean this stuff has taken over the world in terms of how people communicate, interact, date, exchange ideas, you name it. But what about when it starts flying a confederate battle flag and encouraging you to molest cattle? What's the responsibility of social media companies to "censor" content or determine what should or should not be said? It's a brave new world as we talk about ethics, privacy, and security this week on Secure Digital Life.
