DO NOT STOP UNTIL YOU REACH YOUR DREAM with Ricky

DO NOT STOP UNTIL YOU REACH YOUR DREAM with Ricky

In the 6th episode of my podcast series, I had the privilege of having a deep conversation with Ricky, a strong, single, independent and resilient 27-year-old man from Brazil. He started an impressive journey to Australia at the young age of 21, with a student visa and a strong determination. You will quickly see it.

Working in a store back in Brazil, Ricky was looking for a change and an opportunity in tourism industry. That’s why he chose to start studying hotel management in Adelaide.

However, Ricky's path has not been calm and easy. Studying in Australia as a foreigner means navigating the complexities of balancing work, life and education, with a legal limit of 20 hours of work weekly. And for a foreigner studying in Australia is expensive. Like shocking. 3 times the price of the best business school in Paris. I love my French country and our free universities.

Ricky is also family oriented. But still, he took the hard decision to move to Australia and came back to his country after 6 years.

I’m so impressed on how Ricky found resources to pay his studies, lived decently, finished his 5 years degree and despite facing several issues and moral pressure he kept going and faced everything by himself, alone. In his speech you can really feel his deep kindness by forgiving people who tried to manipulate him or prevent him from reaching his dreams.

He wanted to quit, every day. But still he kept going, believing that his future would be has he had imagined. It’s been 6 years now! And he is getting closer to get his Permanent residency.

Ricky is not just strong and independent; he's a ray of sunshine, always spreading love, smiles, and positivity. In our chat, we discussed his strong family link despite the distance, the importance of making your own decisions, and where his strength come from.

STOP WAITING AND LISTEN TO YOURSELF with Sarah

STOP WAITING AND LISTEN TO YOURSELF with Sarah

Disclaimer: Expect 1 hour of French and Spanish accents for your listening pleasure.

This 5th episode is a special one. It’s my turn to introduce myself and share my story. I created this podcast to record the life stories and experience of friends, strangers, colleagues to get inspiration and strength when I need it. There is a reason behind that. I also went through a big life change and made a decision at the age of 26 which led me to Australia. Soon, I’ll be celebrating my 4th anniversary living here.

Some of you asked me questions about my story and I’m so grateful for your curiosity. These questions will be posed by my dear friend Marissa, an incredibly inspiring woman, who is the person who knows my Australian story the best. We met on my first month in Australia and we have been having a similar path around the country together.

I’ve divided this episode into two parts, because it’s hard to summarise such a big life change in 30min...

In this first part, I'll discuss how, after completing five years of studies in a business school and starting a promising career in marketing and sales in Paris, I made the bold decision to leave it all behind and travel to Australia with nothing but a backpack - I'll share my journey of working and traveling solo in Australia- how I build my confidence to learn about hospitality and solo traveling, and, the occasional feelings of insecurity and loneliness that can come with such an adventure.

    Enjoy!
