    • Appreciating the value of personal stories through observationThe speaker values the uniqueness and importance of personal stories and has built a business around preserving and sharing them on VHS tapes.

The speaker values the physicality and uniqueness of analog video recordings, and has built a business around preserving and sharing these rare, personal stories. He believes that the art form of analog video recording deserves respect and care, and is committed to protecting it from being lost or damaged. The speaker shares a personal experience of working late at a hotel reception desk where he could observe guests entering the lobby unnoticed, leading him to appreciate the value of observation and storytelling. This appreciation for the unique and the personal is reflected in his commitment to preserving and sharing the horror stories on his special collection of VHS tapes.

    • Mysterious occurrence at hotel leaves employee uneasyEmployee felt uneasy after witnessing a strange occurrence at work, investigated further, and couldn't shake the feeling of unease despite finding no explanation

An unexplained occurrence at a hotel late at night left the employee feeling uneasy and determined to investigate further. The employee, while watching Netflix, heard the hotel doors open and felt a cold rush of wind. Looking out the window, they saw nothing but felt a strange sensation. When they checked the security cameras, they saw a silhouette in the third-floor vending area. Upon investigation, they found a large puddle of dark, smelly water. Assuming it was an oil leak from the ice machine, they cleaned it up but continued to feel uneasy. When they checked the cameras again, they saw the same black amalgamation. Despite feeling dread, they went back up to investigate and found nothing. The incident left the employee with a sense of unease and a need to uncover the truth behind the mysterious occurrence.

    • Assuming the Unexplained is ParanormalAssumptions about the unexplained can often be mistaken. Always check for rational explanations before jumping to paranormal conclusions.

Unexplained occurrences can sometimes be attributed to human error. The speaker in this text had several inexplicable experiences at a hotel, including finding a puddle of black liquid on the floor multiple times and seeing a figure passing through the lobby. He assumed these were paranormal occurrences but was later shocked to discover that he had accidentally missed submitting the nightly audit to the parent company during his shifts. The manager showed him the security footage, which revealed that it was indeed the speaker who had been standing in the vending area for over two hours, explaining the unexplained puddle and the figure the speaker had seen. This incident serves as a reminder that sometimes, the most mysterious occurrences can have rational explanations.

    • Perception vs Reality in AuditsConfirmation bias can lead to misunderstandings and miscommunications in objective situations. Approach situations with an open mind and consider alternative explanations.

Perception and reality can differ greatly, even in seemingly objective situations. The speaker in this text believed he had completed an audit in a hotel, but the evidence and the hotel's records told a different story. Despite his insistence, he was met with disbelief and was eventually ostracized by the staff. This experience left him questioning his own sanity, leading him to avoid hotels in favor of bed and breakfasts. The text also highlights the power of confirmation bias, as the hotel staff wrote off the speaker's claims as the result of his supposed mental instability, rather than considering the possibility of an error. Overall, this story serves as a reminder that it's important to approach situations with an open mind and to be willing to consider alternative explanations.

    • Assumptions can lead to dangerous situationsAlways prioritize safety and involve law enforcement when dealing with unknown individuals on your property, especially when children are present.

Assuming the best and trying to scare off a potential intruder can sometimes lead to unexpected and dangerous situations. The speaker's initial assumption that the intruder was a burglar led her to confront him in a non-confrontational way, but the situation quickly escalated when she realized the intruder was looking for someone else entirely. It's important to prioritize safety and involve law enforcement when dealing with unknown individuals on your property, especially when children are present. The speaker's quick thinking and instincts ultimately led to a safe outcome, but the situation could have had a very different ending.

    • Stalking incident leaves woman and narrator feeling uneasyBe vigilant and prioritize safety against potential stalkers or intruders. Report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

Strangers can pose a threat, and it's important to take precautions to ensure safety. A recent incident involving a stalker who managed to find a woman's location and attempted to abduct her highlights the need to be vigilant. The stalker, who was observed jumping into a car without headlights or front plates, was able to evade the police. The woman was advised to take her social media details offline and install heavy-duty locks. The incident left both the woman and the narrator feeling uneasy and confused. The transportational theory behind the stalker's behavior was unclear, but it's possible he hoped to disarm his victim or have her ride along with him. While some may find the idea of being stalked flattering, it's essential to remember that it can be a dangerous and distressing experience. If you have experienced stalking or late-night visitors, it's crucial to prioritize your safety and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
