    About this Episode

My next guest is Dr. Richard Pfau. He came to understand human behavior the long way.

He started in the "hard sciences" at the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and studied engineering at Johns Hopkins. He spent several years with the U.S. Naval Engineering Experiment Station helping to silence submarines and other ships. He got his bachelors in psychology from the University of Baltimore, graduating summa cum laude by the way, and went on to the Peace Corps in Nepal. That experience led to him to a PhD in science education from the University of Pittsburgh. Then more work in Nepal and 11 years in Africa plus teaching at the University of Connecticut and private consulting as a human resource development specialist. He has been around the block.

Rich's many years of work and research have been aimed directly at understanding human behavior and have culminated in his new book "Your Behavior - Understanding and Changing the Things You Do."

In this episode we talk about how you can:
    1. analyze your behavior and change it if you want to
    2. understand why others behave the way they do
    3. see how your perceptions direct your behavior
    4. get more control of your life

    On Motivation When It Matters

    On Motivation When It Matters

Terry Tucker has reinvented himself a few times. He has worked in marketing, hospital administration, and customer service. He was a police officer and SWAT negotiator with the Cincinnati Police Department, started a security consulting business, and became a high school basketball coach.

Each change meant new skills and new challenges. His greatest challenge came in 2012 when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Four years of Interferon injections followed, and the treatment almost killed him. The pain and suffering taught him that he had two choices - succumb to the debilitating discomfort and misery or learn to embrace it and use it to make himself a stronger and better human being. He chose the latter.

Terry started the Motivational Check blog to help inspire people to lead uncommon lives, even in uncommon and uncomfortable circumstances. He is still battling cancer and has had multiple surgeries, including the amputation of his left leg. Today we talk about motivation and how to keep going and stay positive about life even when it's really tough.

    Magnus Walker - Urban Outlaw

    Magnus Walker - Urban Outlaw
My next guest is Magnus Walker. He grew up in Sheffield England and dropped out of school to come to the U.S. and try the American dream. It worked out pretty good for him. Almost by accident, he started Serious Clothing and his stuff was worn by the likes of Madonna, Bruce Willis, and Alice Cooper.

He has loved Porsche's since he was a kid and started collecting and restoring vintage Porsche 911s. He was in a short film, Urban Outlaw, that was a big hit at the 2012 Raindance Film Festival. His newfound fame led to Porsche asking him to work for them 35 years after he applied to work there when he was 10. Magnus also wrote an autobiography - Urban Outlaw: Dirt Don't Slow You Down, about his rise and fall in the fashion industry. His TEDx UCLA talk is great.

In this episode we talk about how to be adaptive in a complex world, be open to options, and master your perspective not your plan. And just a touch of outlaw cooking.
