    Day243 Windowless Rooms

    Day243 Windowless Rooms
Saturday we talk about things that don't go together. Rooms without Windows is our topic. Fighter Jets can be designed without windows. Why not passenger planes too. For that matter, how about that interior hotel room, the berth on a ship, the office in the middle of the building or the basement room in your house?
By creating digital walls we can use spaces in new ways. What would you do with a digital wall?

    Day242 Whistle While You Work

    Day242 Whistle While You Work
Gameify life to reduce stress, increase happiness, and regain control of your life.

Watching kids taught me a lot about life. Especially when it comes to hard work.

This week I emphasized that life is about the Story you tell yourself.

The moments in your life that define you is just a story you tell about yourself. This story can be changed.

Today, I want to say that the story you tell yourself about the world you live in today, determines if you are stressed, happy, content, or frustrated.

Life is messy. Games are simple.

Day240 Begin with the End in Mind

Day240 Begin with the End in Mind
As Stephen Covey stated in his book, "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People", One of the habits to cultivate is to Begin with the end in mind. (Habit 2) (Stephen Covey). Today, I ask if you have done this.
It turns out people who are genuinely happy and pleased with their life, are often people who consider who might come to their funeral, and what they might say about their life.
Usually, at a funeral people do not discuss the deceased resume. They are not likely to talk about the marks they got in math, or the school that they graduated from or what companies they worked for. In other words, the conversation is not likely to revolve around their résumé.
The conversation is more likely to revolve around the connections they built with those people. How they felt. What they did as a person.
Today I ask you to consider the story they will tell about who you are. Not WHAT you do.
How would you like your story to end. That's the place to start thinking about what you want to do today.

Day239 Let's Think: Are you an Optimist or a Pessimist?

Day239 Let's Think: Are you an Optimist or a Pessimist?
Today’s question is: Are you an optomist or a pessimist?
Studies show us that Pessimists predict the future with greater clarity. In this, they are realists who take the facts as they are and draw a conclusion that is close to what really happens. Unfortunately, the pessimist is unhappy even when they are right.
The Optomists see the world through rose colored goggles. They make up happy stories that keep them happy, even as their forecasts miss the mark more often than not.
As one of our listeners pointed out, the ideal situation is to plan as a pessimist, while living as an optomist. The best of both worlds.
That being said, did you know that you can choose which one you want to be?

Day236 Pairings that do not go together. Not talking about food. Today it's driving while sleeping.

Day236 Pairings that do not go together. Not talking about food. Today it's driving while sleeping.
When you hear the word pairings, we are conditioned to imagine fine wine and fine dining. Or perhaps peanut butter and pickles. Today (and every Saturday) we combine things that don't normally go together. This episode we are talking about Self-driving cars and the possibilities for travel that we have not considered before. Like sleeping while driving. Or taking a shower (or even soaking in a tub) while being driven by AI to work.

Day235 Today is the first day of the last quarter of 2021. What's your End of Year Resolution?

Day235 Today is the first day of the last quarter of 2021. What's your End of Year Resolution?
The new year is a bright shiny time when all things are possible. So many of us make "new year's resolutions." That is a happy and bright moment. Possibly the happiest moment of the year. Let me burst that bubble with a dreary thought. You probably did not accomplish the things on your long list of happy thoughts. So now it is time to give you a kick in the butt. This is not a happy day. This is the day I tell you there are only about 90 days left in the year. So get to it!!! Do the ONE THING that will make this year better for you. Reconnect with friends or family. Pay down that debt. Get out of a bad situation. Start exercising like you promised in January. Just get moving.

Day232 The "S" Curve of Life. Learning, Accelerating, Growing, Mature, and Ending.

Day232 The "S" Curve of Life. Learning, Accelerating, Growing, Mature, and Ending.
The "S" curve describes the life of humans, the life of plants, the life of a company and perhaps everything that exists and then ceases to exist. Everything that grows appears to follow this curve. Shallow in the beginning, rapidly rising in the middle, and then leveling off at the end. Knowing where you are on the curve can help define what you do next. Listen in to learn more.

Day231 Persistence, Patience, Pivot - The three keys to success at everything you do!

Day231 Persistence, Patience, Pivot - The three keys to success at everything you do!
When chasing down a goal, we need Persistence to keep going when the odds are stacked against us. Knowing that the results will not be instantaneous, we keep Patience for the success we know is coming. When you realize that path you are on is no longer working, its time to Pivot. Listen in to apply these three P's to your life.

Day229 Lava and Water - Two things that don't go together

Day229 Lava and Water - Two things that don't go together
Every Saturday we talk about two things that don't go together. Today is no different. Let's combine hot lava and cold water to see what we get! Normally we think of hot springs. And I think we have a special case in Japan and Iceland. Hot springs are abundant and refreshing. But don't let the pressure build up! Water bursts forth explosively when superheated by lava!

    Day226 Paper Sizes - A4, B4, Letter, Legal, What's the difference?

    Day226 Paper Sizes - A4, B4, Letter, Legal, What's the difference?
The ISO paper series A and B make sense. A0 or B0 are the parent sizes. Each number take the paper size and cuts it in half. So two A1 sheets equal A0. Two A2 sheets equal 1 A1. In the practical size arena, A4 is the normal size for most documents, and A3 would be twice that size. Making it easy to make larger or smaller copies on the copier. Most copy machines (outside of the US) it is common to have A4 and A3 paper and possibly even A5 paper too. Japan is familiary with the B size paper and most of my notes are on B5 size paper. What about the US? Letter and Legal? How is this even still convenient. As an American who only knew about Letter and Legal, my first experience with the ISO standard was one of frustration. Now that I have more experience, I rather enjoy these sensible sizes that have been thought out. Take a listen to hear more.
