It's Never Too Late to Go After Your Dreams: How to Rediscover Your Passions and Pursue Your Goals at Any Age

Do you ever feel like it's too late to achieve your dreams and goals? That ship has sailed, right? Wrong! I'm here to tell you that it's never too late to rediscover what brings you joy and passion in life.

This powerful three-step framework will help you re-ignite your inner fire and start taking steps toward the life you desire. This process has helped me and countless others exit the cycle of self-doubt and limiting beliefs and start living life to the fullest.

Step 1: Tell Yourself the Truth

Be honest with yourself - do you still want to achieve this goal or dream? It's perfectly normal and healthy to let go of aspirations that no longer fit who you are. The key is checking in with your true desires.

An insightful exercise is to make a list of the best moments in your life and categorize them into experiences, relationships, accomplishments, and objects. What category has the most tallies? This brings awareness to what really matters to you.

    Step 2: Ignite Curiosity

Get curious about what would make achieving this goal easier or harder for you. Use B.J. Fogg's "Ability Chain" - time, money, physical effort, mental effort - to ask yourself empowering questions. This honesty allows you to uncover obstacles and solutions.

    Step 3: Start Testing

Take action by testing strategies and behaviors to address the obstacles you identified. View setbacks as data to learn from. Return to Steps 1 and 2 as needed to adjust your approach. With persistence, you can design a path to success.

No matter your age or past, you have so much life yet to live. Follow these steps to rediscover your passions, boost resilience, and make your dreams a reality. I believe in you!

They introduce attainable habit strategies that allow anyone to kickstart their journey to age-proof their life, regardless of their current age or physical condition.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Social connectedness is a vital ingredient for healthy aging, possibly contributing up to eight additional healthy years to one's life. • Regular movement and a diet consisting primarily of whole foods each have the potential to add up to four healthy years to one's life.
    • Small steps or simple lifestyle habit changes play a significant role in introducing and sustaining new routines focused on healthy aging and social connectedness.
    • Age is not a barrier to learning new skills or developing healthy habits; in fact, it is never too late to start embarking on these practices.
    • Prioritizing self-investment and self-love are paramount for promoting overall well-being and form the basis of effective healthy aging strategies.

    What are Age ANTs?

Age ANTs are the unconscious, negative thoughts we have about growing older. Common examples include "I'm too old to try new things" and "Every ache means the worst."

    Why do ANTs Matter?

Left unchecked, ANTs shape how we see the world and limit our actions. Debi explains how the brain seeks to validate thoughts, directing focus. This impacts feelings and behaviors.

    Recognizing Your Own ANTs

Debi guides visualizing ANTs as separate from ourselves. See them as tiny ants crawling on sentences apart from you. This gives the power to choose different perspectives.

    Questioning Deeply Held Beliefs

Some ANTs feel completely true, but asking if all people agree reveals them as stories, not facts. Writing thoughts down helps objectively analyze what's belief versus reality.

    Shifting to Supportive Thoughts

Notice which thoughts inspire your dreams or hold you back. Intentionally choose thoughts that support goals rather than ANT-dictated limitations. You have control over your perspective.

    Creating The Future You Want

    Creating The Future You Want

My desire is for you to pause….give yourself the chance to percolate on this. Be Sherlock-like and ignite curiosity.

The reason I want you to stop believing your past should have been different is because when we’re past-focused we can start to feel “meh” about life. Being past-focused can make life feel like you’re pushing a big bolder up a really steep mountain. A struggle, something to survive.

As you start to flip the script, start to focus on the future life becomes exciting and compelling.

I also want to be real with you here on this podcast. Teaching your brain new ways of believing is work. It’s ongoing. It takes being willing to feel all the feels, being present with yourself, thinking about your thinking, and deciding on purpose what you want to think.

Yes, you can get the “how-to’s” from books, webinars, podcasts, videos, etc. Here is what I know….success in every area of life….whether you’re trying to exit the drink, over drinking shame & regret cycle or doubling or tripling your income, or if you want to have a better relationship with your spouse or your kids….whatever it is you’re wanting to transform….success comes from 20% of what you learn from books, podcasts, workshops, seminars, courses, etc. and 80% comes from mindset.

What I’m sharing with you here on Aging Flipped is the mindset side of the equation. If you’d like to chat with me about how you can incorporate some of the same techniques and tools and strategies I’ve picked up along my journey that makes me a successful coach, whether it’s in my business as a leader of business masterminds or ending a decade of daily over drinking alcohol to effortlessly in control without feeling miserable or deprived or my journey with taking charge of my adult ADHD or transforming my relationship with myself from one of judge, jury, and executioner to being my own raving fan and falling in love with my flawsome self. No matter what your dream is, whatever you’re currently wanting to create ….. if you’re struggling to turn it into reality, I’d love to have a conversation with you.

I have opened up lots of space in my calendar for this month because I what you to be able to give yourself the gift of transformation. The gift of loving what you see in the mirror with your own eyes. The joy of accepting all of yourself. The bliss of trusting yourself to figure things out. ADHD Awareness Month

    ADHD Awareness Month

In honor of ADHD awareness month, I'm bringing you a special episode.

When you've got ADHD, getting support can be a traumatic experience.

It can be hard to describe what's happening for you.....

You can feel ashamed that you're not able to "get it together" like other people seem to be able to.

Today's podcast is a conversation between myself and my dear friend Jennifer.  Jennifer is a self-proclaimed rebel, a stand-up comedian, and a former comedy club owner. She had always embraced her ‘party girl’ status as a badge of honor until the ramifications of her drinking and her impulsive lifestyle became destructive and unmanageable.

When Jennifer was diagnosed with adult ADHD in her 40s she realized that she had spent more than 20 years self-medicating her symptoms with alcohol. Drinking was the easiest and fastest way to shut off the constant chatter in her brain. She also discovered that alcohol abuse among people with ADHD is much more common than it is in people without the condition.

Jennifer and I both have ADHD. We're sharing our story. Sharing things that have worked for us and opening up the conversation so others don't feel so alone.

So, take a listen and let me know what you think. I know this is an important discussion for both the person with ADHD as well as the person who loves someone with ADHD.

The doors to Busy Being Flawsome are officially open! If you’re ready to get off of the hamster wheel of thinking, feeling like, and believing you're not good enough while hanging out with other women exiting the shame train, creating radical self-acceptance, and breaking through barriers, join us right now!

What We Need to Quit Doing To Go From Struggling To Free

What We Need to Quit Doing To Go From Struggling To Free

All this kind of thinking does is make us quit going after what we want the second something goes wrong.

Life is filled with quitting. We just aren't taught which quitting is good for us and which quitting is holding us back. Most of us associate quitting with being "bad." We only do it when things fall apart. We quit because we run out of willpower, we overdrink alcohol, overeat food, do some retail therapy or binge-watch TV after a bad day, or when we don’t do things perfectly.

None of those things are worth quitting over.
Listen to the episode to learn what you need to quit in order to stop feeling "meh" about life and start flipping that script in your head about what's possible for you in this season of life.

And, do me a favor after you listen. Take a screenshot, post why you loved it on social media, and tag me on Twitter

If you're ready to flip the script around what's possible for you in this season of life, join me inside Busy Being Flawsome.

Anything Is Possible When You Believe

Anything Is Possible When You Believe

I think this is, ultimately, the biggest freedom we have. People can do countless different things to us but they can’t tell us what we can make it mean. They can’t tell us how it should feel emotionally.

This realization is what began my journey to untangling many unwanted habits and behaviors. The biggest domino for me is eliminating my desire for alcohol.

This is also what’s giving me the freedom to create an epic life. The freedom to embrace all of life. To fall in love with my flawsome self!

    WHAT YOU WILL DISCOVER

    • What's possible when you believe
    • The importance of understanding that we can choose to believe anything we want.
    • How life changes when you flip the script in your head about what's possible.

Today, I’m sharing my conversation with Teri Patterson, host of The Sober Edge Podcast. This is part of her coaching series. She and I met in the This Naked Mind training and I’m actually her coach! I encouraged her to start her podcast, so it was so fun to be a guest of hers.

Here is what we talk about:

    • Habits and Coaching
    • What Do People Get Wrong About Habits?
    • The Behavior Change Master Plan
    • Tiny Habits & Tiny Habit Recipes

It was so great to share my thoughts and knowledge on Tiny Habits and the Behavior Model with Teri, and I hope she got just as much out of it as I did from learning about it originally!

Useful Tools in Defining Your Alcohol EXIT

Useful Tools in Defining Your Alcohol EXIT

I’m wrapping up my series on the Tiny Habits book and process! Today’s episode is all about going through some activities that act as tools within this process. These tools will assist you in really diving into your EXIT and allowing you to identify the behaviors that hold the key to positive change.

While these activities are easy to do, they can have a significant impact on how you look at where you can make changes in order to pursue the life that you want to live. How exciting is that?

Here is what I cover in this episode:

    • Defining Your Aspiration
    • Exploring Behavior Options
    • Focus Mapping

I’ve used these tools myself to facilitate my own EXIT, so I can tell you firsthand how useful they are in taking a step away from the drinking cycle. Now, all that’s left for you to do is to tap into them with me!

Do You Understand Ability & How It Relates to Your EXIT?

Do You Understand Ability & How It Relates to Your EXIT?

As I continue my series on the Tiny Habits book and training by BJ Fogg, I’m covering a new topic today: ability. This episode is all about ability, the ability chain, and specific prompts you can ask yourself here.

I have a deep-seated belief in the Tiny Habits book and BJ Fogg’s behavior model, and the ability piece is just as important as the past elements I’ve covered! The ability chain is an interesting aspect of the model, and I dive into the different pieces of it in this episode.

Here is what I cover in this episode:

    • Understanding the Ability Chain
    • Prompts Surrounding Ability

Taking the time to uncover your thoughts through the prompts I provide on this episode will ignite your curiosity surrounding the way you currently operate and relate to alcohol. From there, you can start exploring how you can change your approach and - ultimately - make your EXIT.

Is Motivation Enough to Prompt Your EXIT?

Is Motivation Enough to Prompt Your EXIT?

We hear the term motivation a lot, but what does it actually mean? And furthermore, can it help us reach our goals, particularly when it comes to making our EXIT from drinking?

Understanding motivation and how unreliable it is when used alone to achieve a goal is of paramount importance when it comes to understanding BJ Fogg’s behavior model. That’s what I talk about in today's episode, which dives further into the Tiny Habits book and training that I’m a strong believer in.

Here is what I cover in this episode:

    • Motivation as an Unreliable Way of Helping Ourselves
    • What I’ve Learned About Motivation
    • Questions for You About Motivation

Gaining an understanding of motivations, competing motivations, and how they interact with our thoughts, prompts, and actions will help you to better pursue your EXIT from the drinking life. This is one small piece that makes a big difference in the way you approach your epic life!

    Your Emotions Create Your Habits

    Your Emotions Create Your Habits

So often, we have the urge to push away our emotions, especially when dealing with substance abuse issues. In fact, that could be a lot of the reason we decide to drink, because it’s a way to “take the edge off” of our emotions. But, I’ve come to learn that trusting myself to feel and experience my emotions has made a world of difference in living my epic life.

Understanding our behaviors is the first step in changing your approach to your emotions and beginning to unblock your EXIT. That’s what I talk about in today's episode, which focuses a lot on the Tiny Habits book and training that I’m a strong believer in.

Here is what I cover in this episode:

    • Getting Rid of the Need to “Take the Edge Off”
    • The Tiny Habits Behavior Model
    • The Phases of the Behavior Change Master Plan

It’s really not about getting rid of any behaviors, but rather, untangling them to gain a better understanding of them. That’s what I want to help you to do in order to reach a better place in trusting yourself to feel and experience your emotions.

What Does EXIT Mean to Me? The Strategy Explained

What Does EXIT Mean to Me? The Strategy Explained

I talk a lot about you making your EXIT and utilizing the EXIT methodology to do so. But, do you really understand what that means or what the strategy associated with it is? That’s what I want to fill you in on in today’s episode.

When we don’t have a strategy, that’s when we end up floundering in our efforts to stop drinking. But the EXIT strategy helps you unblock your exit and make the change you’ve been yearning for.

Here are the different components of the EXIT strategy that I go over:

    • Examine, Explore, & Experiment
    • X Out
    • Ignite Curiosity
    • Trust Yourself to Figure Things Out
    • Move Your Body
    • Help Your Brain Chill Out

These six components of the EXIT strategy are key in helping you take a new approach to your EXIT: an approach that works! Choosing even one of these steps can help you get started on your journey towards an alcohol-free lifestyle.

Your Beliefs as the Key to Your EXIT from Alcohol

Your Beliefs as the Key to Your EXIT from Alcohol

Our beliefs are incredibly powerful, yet they’re something that silently guides us throughout life without much thought. Why is that? And how does that impact the way that we make our EXIT from drinking? In the episode, I tackle those very questions with my Power of Belief Training.

Our beliefs come from thoughts, and we have thousands of them every day running through our heads without us even realizing it. Changing a thought is the first step to changing our actions, and I want you to tap into that power to change your life for the better.

Here’s what I share in the episode:

    • More on The EXIT Methodology
    • What Is a Belief?
    • Where Do Beliefs Come From?
    • Your “Leave Everything Behind” Moment
    • Using Questions to Uncover Your Beliefs
    • Question Your Beliefs and Reflect

Really examining, exploring, and experimenting with your beliefs will help you unblock your EXIT in ways you never thought possible. Trust me - let’s work on it together!

    Three Valuable Lessons of 2021
