Titus was a Greek Gentile who traveled with Paul, working with Gentile converts in early Christian churches. The book of Titus is Paul’s letter telling him what to teach the new believers. His advice included the responsibility the older women have towards the younger women.

The sixteenth chapter of Romans mentions by name ten women. The first is Phoebe who delivered the letter from Paul to the Roman church. Then he goes on to mention Priscilla and Aquila.  Hel greets Mary who worked hard for the church and mentions Junia who had suffered for her faith and stood firm.

The next women mentioned are Tryphena and Tryphosa, thought to be twin sisters. In the same verse with the sisters is a greeting to Persis who had worked hard for the Lord. In verse 13 Paul greets Rufus and his mother. In verse 15 he calls out to Julia, thought to be a royal slave.  Finally, Paul greets Nerus and his sister and “all the saints who are with them.”

Gentiles in the city of Rome formed a church. Though Paul had not been to the church yet, he wrote to encourage the believers in that church. The book of Romans is his message to them. He chose Phoebe to deliver the letter

Porcius Festus succeeded Felix as governor. Since Paul insisted he was innocent, Festus was forced to send him on to Caesar to appeal his case. In the meantime, King Agrippa and his sister Bernice came to call on Festus. Festus told them about Paul. Agrippa said he would like to hear from Paul himself.

Drusilla was the great granddaughter of Herod the Great who tried to kill baby Jesus. She was the daughter of Herod Agrippa I who killed James and imprisoned Peter. She was the niece of Herod Antipas who killed John the Baptist.We’re introduced to Drusilla when she appears with her husband Felix at Paul’s trial. Felix was the Roman governor charged with ruling what to do with Paul.

Paul and his missionary companions arrived in Caesarea where Philip the evangelist lived. He was one of the seven deacons chosen to distribute food, but now he was known for his evangelistic work. Acts 21:9 tells us that Philip had four daughters who prophesied.

In Acts 21 we meet a group of unsung heroes, the women of Tyre. Paul and his missionary companions were on their way from Ephasus and landed in Tyre. They found disciples there and stayed for a week. During that time, the disciples told Paul through the Spirit to not go on to Jerusalem.  But at the end of the week, Paul and his companions continued on their way.

We’re first introduced to Priscilla and her husband Aquilla in Acts 18. During his second missionary journey Paul came to Corinth and met Priscilla and Aquila. They were Italians who immigrated to Corinth when Claudius commanded all the Jews to leave Rome.

Eunice was the mother of Paul’s protege, Timothy. We’re first introduced to her in Acts 16:1, but it’s not until later, in 2 Timothy, that we learn her name.“Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek.”

In Acts 13 we read about devout Jewish women. At first glance, we would assume this would be a good thing. Further reading, however, shows us in this case it was not.The chapter begins by sharing of the work of Paul and Barnabas preaching at Cyprus and Antioch. They taught Gentiles saying, “For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, ‘‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’’” (Acts 13:47)
