#258 - Functional Neurology for Kids with Dr. Conner Bor

#258 - Functional Neurology for Kids with Dr. Conner Bor

Dr. Conner Bor was born and raised in Voorhees, New Jersey. He completed his undergraduate degree in Health & Exercise Science at The College of New Jersey and went on to earn his Doctorate of Chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic. While at Palmer, Dr. Bor received many academic honors and was awarded the prestigious Clinical Excellence award upon graduation.

Growing up, Dr. Bor’s passion for helping others was fueled by having two uncles who are chiropractors. While competing in both high school and college athletics, Dr. Bor relied heavily on chiropractic care to recover from injuries and maintain peak condition. Dr. Bor found his calling early on and earned his undergraduate degree early so he could begin his journey as a chiropractor.

Early on in chiropractic school, Dr. Bor discovered his passion for neurology and began his post-graduate training while still in school. Dr. Bor completed over 500 hours in training the field of Functional Neurology and was the President of the Functional Neurology club while in school. He went on to receive a Diplomate in Chiropractic Neurology through the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. Dr. Bor is also fellowship trained in the management of childhood developmental disorders through the International Association of Functional Neurology. In an effort to provide this information to as many as possible, Dr. Bor developed a comprehensive online course that teaches both parents and other healthcare practitioners how to apply the concepts of neuroplasticity and nutrition. This course has helped children with developmental delays from around the world maximize their neurologic potential and reach their goals.

#256 - Fight-Flight-Freeze Response and Sensory Processing Challenges

We recently completed a 2-on-1 mentoring session with a mother who described her son as “continually shutting down - won’t talk and won’t participate in anything.”

Sounds very similar to the FREEZE response in fight-flight-freeze.

The fight-flight-freeze response is a physiological response to stress, or to danger. Our children who have experienced trauma, or experience sensory overstimulation, often experience this stress response.

We give you some tips and tricks to help proactively manage this as well as in-the-moment strategies.

#245 - Therapy Case Study: 2 Year Old Sensory Seeker

We LOVE answering your questions! Today’s episode comes from a listener who reached out with a question about a client they work with.

“He’s 2 years old. Definitely has a large sensory cup. He is extremely rough and tumble. This kid has face planted on concrete and will get up and keep running. I tried a weighted vest on him but he ripped it off right away. I’ve informed mom about heavy work at home. Our sessions usually look like me chasing him around. Any tips / strategies for kids like him?”

We brainstormed and came up with some ideas on how to incorporate his preferred sensory activities (like running) into structured 2 step obstacle courses. We talked about meeting his sensory needs, using a visual schedule, and MORE!

#244 - Treatment Planning Brainstorm Session

#244 - Treatment Planning Brainstorm Session
A big piece of therapy is treatment planning - as a therapist, you spend a lot of time planning and executing treatment sessions for your clients. The more clients you have, the more treatment plans you have! It’s time consuming and can oftentimes be frustrating.

We took 7 common treatment planning challenges and brainstormed ideas! The challenges we discussed ranged from lack of time, keeping it fun and play-based, to writing goals and burnout.

If you’re a therapist, this episode is for you! Be sure to share it with your fellow therapists!
