064 Graphic Design with Mike McPhail
On this episode of And I Quote: Ryan talks with writer, editor and graphic designer, Mike McPhail of eSpeck Books. We will also be taking your questions! Mike McPhail’s love of the science fiction genre sparked a life-long interest in science, technology, and developing an understanding of the human condition—all of which played an important role in his writing, art, and game design. These, in turn, are built upon his background in Applied Science and training as an Aeronautical Engineer, all of which were aimed at becoming a NASA mission specialist. As a professional author, he has been involved in numerous projects, but he is best known as the creator and series editor of the award-winning Defending the Future military science fiction anthologies—now in their second decade of publication. His body of work has been formally recognized with his acceptance into SFWA, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. As a graphic designer, he is the owner of McP Digital Graphics (founded in 2006), a company established to provide cover art, design, layout, and prepress services. This built upon not only his experience as a game designer, but primarily from his time as the Proofing Supervisor for Phoenix Color Corp doing cover work for the great publishing houses. As a publisher, he is the co-owner of eSpec Books LLC (since 2014), where his graphics company has become the inhouse design arm of production. As Airman McPhail, he is a member of the Military Writers Society of America and is dedicated to helping his fellow service members (and those deserving civilians) in their efforts to become authors, editors, or artist, as well as supporting related organization in their efforts to help those "who have given their all for us." Hi there! I’m Elizabeth Doss! I am a GIF maker/artist. I have been making animated gifs for over 4 years. I am a verified artist with GIPHY and my own gifs have been viewed over 4 billion times. (Yep with a B!) I created izzyink studios to help brands, businesses, and influencers build gif strategies for interacting with their communities through social media by implementing custom branded gifs and gif stickers. Since my launch, I have helped over 40 businesses by designing, illustrating, animating and walking them through GIPHY’s process so their gifs are usable within social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, Twitter, Snapchat, Slack, Clubhouse and for email & website campaigns. My fascination with GIFs comes from my childhood love for drawing, animation, and my grown-up curiosity for all things social media (especially Instagram). I love how gifs can quickly communicate emotional, humorous and relatable ideas in mere fractions of a second. My husband, James, and I are full-time RVers- Our home base is in Travelers Rest, South Carolina where I put my B.A. in music (opera/music history) to good use in assisting leading music at our local church. I would have to say that my goal in life, in business and in general is doing my best to bring joy to others!

048 Leadership Coaching with Rob Hodes

048 Leadership Coaching with Rob Hodes
On this episode of And I Quote: Ryan talk with autistic leadership coach, Rob Hodes of My Autism Gifts.

We'll also be taking your questions!

Rob Hodes grew up in Long Island, NY with undiagnosed Autism. When he was learning to speak during childhood he could only say vowels, not consonants. He had very few friends and was bullied incessantly as his stuttering continued until his late teens. He had very low self-esteem, self-confidence, depression, an inability to maintain relationships and a deep distrust of other people and life in general. He didn’t know then that many of those things were symptoms of Autism.

In 1984 he was "sick of the rat race" and started taking personal development courses. He’s taken courses from Tony Robbins, Toastmasters International, Peak Potentials, Landmark Education, Dave Ramsey, Michael Beckwith, A Course in Miracles and many others.

This was an investment in learning about the roadblocks he’d created himself, roadblocks that kept him from living his life to its fullest potential. A lifetime of misinformation took thousands of hours of education to assist him in communicating with confidence, rebuilding his self-confidence and self-esteem, and healing numerous internal wounds he collected along the way. He accomplished this by 1) Asking himself the proper questions which unraveled the many interconnected parts to reconstruct his self-confidence/self-esteem etc. 2) Learning how to connect with others so they trusted him and HIS leadership. At Toastmasters International (TI) after he mastered how to communicate with conviction, he led two different clubs to earn the highest award that TI offered its clubs within the same year! Neither club had earned any awards from TI the year before.

Rebuilding HIMSELF has led to HIS life’s passion of assisting others to achieve things that they thought were unachievable.

His personal mission statement is to inspire individuals on the Autism Spectrum to defy societal labeling by taking strategic action to achieve their goals and dreams by using their unique gifts by authentically sharing HIS life story.

Before 1984 misperceptions and bullies led to devastating self-doubt and an extremely limiting self-image and self-worth that was not authentic. Now he has the power of infinite self-worth and dreams without limits that he brings to others.

046 Amourable Art with Pat Kenrick

046 Amourable Art with Pat Kenrick
On this episode of And I Quote: Ryan talk with artist, Pat Kenrick of Amourable Art. We'll also be taking your questions!

Pat has been painting for his entire life. After meeting his wife Alexis, he was encouraged to pursue art as a career. Together, they developed Pat’s skills in silhouette painting and created the art you see today. Pat enjoys painting with vivid, bright colors, and with clean lines. He feels the modern silhouettes allow the viewer to reflect upon their own experiences to fulfill the image that has been painted. By allowing the imagination to explore the painting, each viewer sees their own story within each art piece. Kim is Alexis's mother who is a full time employee that makes sure nothing falls through the cracks.

Pat, Alexis, and Kim travel the United States selling Pat’s art at weekend art shows. You may find them anywhere from New England to Florida to Oregon, and many states in between. Pat and Alexis live in Newport News, Virginia.
