Well this is our drinkiest show as Andrew was on a mission. We headed north to celebrate Beaver Street Brewing's 30th Anniversary at the wonderful Orpheum Theater on March 1st. And we did a little bit of day drinking and night drinking on Saturday.

Andrew's wife Bonnie makes a show appearance to counter a slightly surly Andrew and a slightly annoyed Rob. Things get maudlin. Dogs. Pay N Take. The Zane Grey Bar (and history). The Museum Club. Jell-O shots. It's all there.

EARLY RELEASE.

This is where we are at. The cross roads on the eve of the eve of Arizona Beer Week. One of our biggest events of the year that funds the entire enterprise for the Brewers Guild--Arizona Strong Beer Festival. Our hearts are there. But this is also the time that we have to represent the industry at the state legislature.

We normally don't share as much as we have about legislative strategy in real time. We don't often pull the curtains back as much as we have with our events, but we're laying it all out on the line because it's important. we do this for us, but we also do this ALL of us. Our souls are in Arizona. For Arizona.  

Yes and it will be partly cloudy and 75 degrees. We'll probably interrogate you in line if you look like a golf fan.

We're all familiar with beer sales staff who work on behalf of either a brewery or a distributor, but a new kind of sales position is emerging in Arizona and other parts of the country — a shared salesperson that represents a handful of brands and coordinates with one or more distributors. These "people in our beer neighborhood" are more deeply integrated than the beer brokers of old.

We'll explore this new dynamic with Countermeasures Corp (CMC) Regional Business Manager Jennie Stavros and representatives Carmen Rice and Sam Gard.

The Arizona Women's Collaboration Brew Day has a long history of bringing networking, camaraderie, and charitable contributions by women and for women. This year's location was Dragoon Brewing Company in Tucson.

The Arizona Beer Frontier team sat down with 2 of the 4 committee members, Sarah Ritchie and Michael Anne Arnce to find out what the experience means to them and their colleagues. The beer produced devotes proceeds to 3 state women's shelters but it means so much more than that.

In the second half of the show, we bring in Luke Edward of Yakima Chief Hops to talk about the Pink Boots Blend of hops, hop selection, and the remarkable relationship between selection and sensory from farm to lot to field.

And the usual camera failure happens and that Dragoon taproom is a cavern so there is an echo that we tried to mitigate. Finally, the AI captioning is, well, out of control. It cannot distinguish bine from vine and that was a nightmare to edit for captioning. The show transcript is pretty sus too. The captions are derived from the transcript but it's like they use a different algorithm for it. C'mon Premier Pro. Not premiere and not pro!

The end-of-year projections from the Brewers Association (BA) and the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) do not paint a pretty picture for beer in 2024.

Get ready for a wild ride through the twisted trails of the World Series Bet beer delivery saga! This beer odyssey began with a detour from Phoenix through Chicago, as if the brews were on a farewell tour. 

In fact, there were some farewells. It all started with a wake in Ash Fork for an old soul in the industry. 

A happenstance discussion with the proprietor of Fibber McGees, Matt Brennan led to a trip to Chicago. You see, Matt was once part of the brew team at the original Goose Island Clybourn Brewpub and Sunday was the final day of service before the location moves. Rob got to spend some time with Matt and the old crew.

THC beverages hit the Chicago market and were found at Binny's.

Off Color Brewing, the Nisei Lounge, and the Beer Temple were visited.

Rob and an old homebrew friend visited Metropolitan Brewing for a final time before it closes on December 16th. 

Smoked beers and classic German Lagers were enjoyed at Double Clutch Brewing. Classic cars with clutches were gawked at.

In Austin, Travis Bailey of the Texas Craft Brewers Guild took Rob on a BBQ pilgrimage to Luling, TX. Live Oak Brewing, Austin Beer Works, Lazuras Brewing, Hold Out Brewing – they drank so many smoked beers, we lost count.

Back at the Arizona homestead, Andrew risked engine failure for a double anniversary celebration at Fire & Fury (2nd anniversary) and Desert Monks Brewing (5th anniversary). Because who needs a working engine when there's beer to be had?

The Arizona Beer Frontier Team lost a World Series bet to the Texas Craft Brewers Guild.

We'll discuss the bet terms and what we learned about the Diamondbacks and the Rangers, minor league teams, merchandise, and promotions.

Andrew shared his experience camping on the Mogollon Rim and attending the N'acho Beer Fest in Cottonwood.

Rob went to a mall. But more so, he went to Canal Convergence and sampled some of the beers made from polished reclaimed water. Had Japanese beers and eats at Hai Noon in South Scottsdale. Pierogis and Polish Beer at All Pierogis in Mesa.

Rob also discussed GERD, a largely underdiagnosed health issue in our beer culture.

Andrew also attended the Phantom Fox opening on Monday and provided his thoughts. (GO is on Friday, Nov 10.)

We had to talk about our unrelenting fanbase showing up for a 99F festival and our heat mitigation strategies for live events moving forward. They are unrelenting because they never relent. The Arizona Craft Beer Awards Festival continues to be a gem on the west side and if we can catch a break on the weather next year, you're all going to say that the hot year was the best. (In the same way that thousands claim that they were there in the rainiest Strong Beer in 2011 and I was the best.) OK, Olds.

The Guad, TCBC, Saddle Mountain, Peoria Artisan, and Rob's story about being without a hotel for GABF also figure in this ep. Andrew almost ruins his Thanksgiving by scheduling his travel a week late.
