Evan Snow: On Community, Zero Empty Spaces & FTLADW

In this episode of the Artmatcher podcast, Evan Snow speaks with Reilly Clark about Zero Empty Spaces and the Fort Lauderdale Art & Design Week. Hear Evan’s thoughts on the importance of artists and communities supporting each other and the upcoming partnership between Artmatcher and FTLADW.

    About Evan Snow

Being one of those rare "Native South Floridian's" hailing from Broward County, Evan Snow takes a lot of pride in his community. With a passion for The Arts, Culture, Community, and now yoga - Evan has been pursuing his passions by doing work that he finds not only rewarding & fulfilling, but that can impact his community.

These are some of the reasons why he started Choose954, a social movement aimed to Cultivate Culture & Community in Broward, which lead to Art Fort Lauderdale - THE "Art Fair On The Water" aimed to help elevate the arts locally in his community while putting FTL on the Art World map as an international destination to view & interact with art.

These initiatives lead to the creation of Zero Empty Spaces (ZES), an initiative to activate vacant commercial real estate locations to make affordable artist studio spaces starting @ $2.50/sqft on a month to month basis. In it's first 3 years ZES has grown to 27 locations with over 300 artists having worked in formerly vacant spaces with national expansion plans underway to support the commercial real estate crisis & communities across the country to use the arts as a problem solver.

Somewhere in between there in his spare time Evan watched the eye opening "Chasing Coral" documentary & became focused on another mission outside of art - to help save the Coral Reefs. As a native South Floridian, he saw the majority of his community not understanding or valuing the dying natural reefs, & used art to help raise awareness and provide restoration through the formation of the Ocean Rescue Alliance & 1000 Mermaids Artificial Reef Project where Evan still serves as Pro Bono Executive Director for 5+ years.

Evan continues to give back and pay it forward by Co-Hosting & Organizing a monthly breakfast lecture series called AAF Creative Zen with support from his local American Advertising Federation chapter who his business partner has been the president of. This event, initially serving as Evan's "ah-ha moment" that lead him into the work he's doing today, serves to connect, engage, & inspire our community the 2nd Friday morning of every month. The events remain free with complimentary coffee & a guided meditation before a thought provoking & inspiring talk from a local member of the community sharing their story.

Be it talking about Startups, Technology, Community, Culture, Art, Food, or all of the above, you're likely to spark up some interesting & intellectual conversation either way. He is a huge proponent of "Kind Collaboration" & welcomes any ideas or opportunities to collaborate you may have.

    Zero Empty Spaces

Zero Empty Spaces creates affordable artist studios in vacant storefronts around the country where artists can create and collaborate at an affordable price and have the ability to be discovered and sell work at their studio.

With the goal of expanding the appreciation of various genres of visual art and helping to create a thriving cultural community in various cities across the world, Zero Empty Spaces is an important stakeholder in the Florida art scene.

In this episode of the Artmatcher podcast, Cayla Birk speaks with Michael Goodman about her the importance of art and its accessibility.

    About Cayla Birk

Cayla Birk has spent nearly a decade honing her contemporary artistic style. An intellectual by nature, Birk.'s work takes us on a journey of culture, wit, music, literature, and everything in between. A modern day muse, the artist teaches us with every new body of work in her distinct signature style. Cayla's Neo-Dadaist playful designs pervade all of her varying series - her instantly recognizable gestures and marks boast austere verbiage and shroud depictions.

In her more recent exhibitions, Birk. plays with the concept of familiar objects made large, often embedded with secret cyphers. A large portion of Cayla's works merge traditional acrylic paints with other unique materials; she transcends the confines of mixed media art to create a style all her own. Rachel Chamberlain: It's never too late to create

In this episode of the Artmatcher podcast, Rachel Chamberlain speaks with Michael Goodman about her late start in art and showing her work at the upcoming “Woman’s Perspective: Empowering Femininity” in February 2023.

    About Rachel Chamberlain

Known for both her striking portraits and contemplative large-scale abstract work, Rachel Chamberlain was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and studied fashion and illustration at the Savannah College of Art & Design. Rachel’s artistic calling was evident at an early age and she credits her free-spirited style and individuality to the experience of growing up as an adopted only child.

Rachel’s soul-searching portraits express the artist’s own search for identity and a deep connection in both human relationships and her canvas. Photorealistic faces seem to leap off the canvas, lit by a mysterious luminosity that hints at otherworldly elements and the true depth of human experience. Rather than simply painting what she sees on the outside, Rachel seeks to form a powerful connection with each of her subjects and captures a glimpse of their soul and inner beauty.

Rachel’s abstract works lie on another plane of existence and are infused with both a love for life and a quest for meaningful connection. Key to her artistic practice is the use of mantras and meditation which allow her to access a remarkable form of creativity onto the canvas.

These large-scale works use color, form, and texture to harness dynamic energy and a soothing aesthetic that takes the viewer on a journey through their own understanding. Rather than being mere spectators, the audience is invited to consider their place in the universe guided by an aesthetic that inspires a deep contemplative response. Sparse use of gold leaf and repeated staccato markings evoke a higher plane of consciousness and are grounded in a bold color story.

Rachel Chamberlain’s work has been widely exhibited internationally and her loyal client base includes famous names from the political and business elite as well as several celebrity collectors. Her abstract pieces have also found a home in London at Red8 Gallery where her unique style and inspirational aesthetic has already generated much interest. Rachel lives in the foothills of Salt Lake City, Utah with her husband and four beautiful children.

Morgan Echols: Colorful, Geometric, Hard-Edge Artist

Morgan Echols: Colorful, Geometric, Hard-Edge Artist

In this episode of the Artmatcher podcast, Morgan Echols speaks with Michael Goodman about her process. She describes how her precise paintings are created, and how she brings her visions to life through different mediums and tools.

    About Morgan Echols

Morgan Echols was born and raised in Huntsville Alabama. She has a degree in psychology from the University of Alabama, and no formal art training. She is self taught through trial and error.

She strives to create work that reflects balance and symmetry in both design and color. And part of her process has been sharing what she has learned through social media, to inspire and aid in the pursuits of other artists.

She paints in the style of “hard-edge” painting, and much of her work can be categorized as Op-Art, which plays tricks on the mind through illusions. She uses heavy body acrylic paints on canvas.
