    On December 5 at 6:00 pm the Fauquier History Museum at the Old Jail will host Dr. Cassandra Newby-Alexander, professor of history at Norfolk State University, for a virtual lecture on how Virginia’s waterways helped enslaved people achieved freedom in the

    years before the Civil War. Dr. Newby-Alexander has authored several books, including An African American History of the Civil War in Hampton Roads (2010). A question-and-answer session will follow the lecture.
