    A New Nerd in Nine: Joan Beauchamp Procter

    In this installment, hear the mini-biography of renowned zoologist, Joan Procter.  This woman loved amphibians and reptiles and shared her passion at both the British Museum and London Zoo.  She was the creative and technological designer with the architects who built the Reptile House at London Zoo.  Although plagued by chronic illness throughout her young life, she was a forerunner in the idea that enclosures and exhibits should be designed with the well-being and needs of the animals in mind.  She even discovered a new species of lizard, the Peninsula Dragon Lizard.

    Episode 33 - Meet José, the REAL Bat Man!

    In this episode, Heather chats with José, a biologist and Ph.D. student studying all kinds of bats.  Step aside, Hollywood - this is the REAL Bat Man!  Listen to how José was drawn into studying biology and particularly the often misunderstood bats...spoiler alert: it started with many snakes.  He shares how his home country of Nicaragua has a huge diversity of animals, including over 100 species of bats which can range in size from 3 grams/6 inches to 200 grams/3 feet!  Yes, we talk vampire bats as well...surprise, they aren't like Hollywood has made them out to be.

    When José isn't studying bats or the New Mexico Jumping Mouse, he enjoys photography and helping educate people about the key role all animals play in an ecosystem.  He is also a beer drinker who is thoroughly enjoying the diversity of brews in the US.

    Here is an entertaining interview with Heather's coworker in Supply Chain, Justin.  When he isn't tracking logistics and such for personal care products, he is a life coach trying to help inspire people to be their best selves.  He focuses on what the individual needs and emphasizes the importance of self-care and self-love.  In his free time, he enjoys adventures, anime, video games, and building model kits.  He is also one of the most stylish gentlemen the host has the pleasure of knowing - be sure to check out the Instagram announcement for a couple of snapshots.
