503 - We introduce an all new Wampler Pedal!

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 503 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Richard has seen a film about the history of Amplifiers recently and he is dumbstruck that he is the only one of the trio that has even heard of it whilst Brian criticizes his accent. Richard also discusses a large legal issue facing Tik Tok and the use of certain music in their fun data mining social app. This turns into a discussion about AI video creation and a very poor Wonka based experience in Scotland.

Wampler are releasing a new pedal and Brian elucidates in a kind of random fashion. He may have leaked this pedal on another podcast recently but with some gentle prodding he goes into great detail. This episode is being released twelve hours before the official release so it's kinda an exclusive for our awesome listeners. Sorta. Kinda. Richard bought an inexpensive new pedal and is super happy.

Do you use a lightweight rig for gigging or do you take your full pedalboard? The guys chat about this common dilemma and Brian makes some suggestions before giving us his best Jon Bon Jovi impression. This show then deteriorates into further silliness as Brian points out this podcast is an organic thing that just needs to be ridden.

502 - Are guitar prices going to keep rising?

502 - Are guitar prices going to keep rising?

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 502 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

It's DIY Tues.. (checks notes) Wednesday! Brian is recovering from an industrial strength sinus infection but braves the slings and arrows of his co-hosts as he brings us all the latest news from Martinsville and the pedal world! He also lays into Richard pretty hard and tells us about a musical wedding he recently attended that involved him having to dress up in "normal" clothes.

Richard tries to fool Brian but immediately feels guilty and Blake tells everyone about a text from a scammer that he baited a little. Jordan from Poison Noises was visiting Jolly Olde England and Richard and he hung out at Andertons for a minute so he tells us all about it and why we should all be looking forward to some new releases.

Do you care about where your guitars are made as long as they are of sufficient quality? Blake put out a video related to the price of guitars and the inflation that has affected their prices today and the guys debate the new pricing structures that we are all going to get used to.  This leads onto a conversation about one of the most important chips in modern guitar pedals and how it came to be and a deep discussion about fuzz, transistors, and phase.

501 - Who invented Heavy Metal and did Punk come first?

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 501 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian and Blake question Richard's genetics and open up discussing the spectacular 500th episode and Travis gets the blame for everything as we take a fascinating (not) look into the world of podcast production. Richard has DIY questions so Blake take a nap and Brian gives us all some tips on safety at the soldering station. He's very happy with his latest enclosure and the guys talk about different ways of making DIY labels and prints.

Blake put a post out recently and it caused a minor furore on the Internet so we dig down into the history of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock and try and figure out what makes them different.  Richard tries to sell Brian on the influence of The Kinks to heavy metal and music in general and fails spectacularly. What is it that differentiates Metal from the other genres? Is it the tones or is it the riffs?  The guys try and figure it out but largely go off in different tangents.

The conversation stays heavily focused on the music that we all grew up to and there are various points of interest. Richard saw the new H.E.R. Stratocaster and absolutely loves it and it is swiftly added to the list. Staying in the world of Fender, we talk about the new Eric Johnson Strat with built in overdrive, and the guys postulate over what the circuit might be...

500 - Max and Travis return for this milestone episode!

Brian, Blake, and Richard are joined by the legends that are Max Jeffrey and Travis Feaster for this special 500th episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

In this celebratory episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast we are joined by the very two fellers that started this journey off with Brian - Travis Feaster and Max Jeffrey. This is a podcast first for Chasing Tone but fair warning - things get out of hand real quick as we catch up with these two titans of tone.

There are revelations and confessions aplenty as we explore Brian's "Lost Years" and Richard asks a very insensitive question which turns into a ridiculous story.  Yes, it is that story and somehow it involves diminished chords and breaking one of Brian's amplifiers. The guys chat about the problems of modern technology and laugh at the  foolishness of others whilst Travis keys us in to some cool music-tech developments.

The guys also discuss the earliest days of Wampler pedals and offer their collective take on how this podcast came to be and how the company got to the where it is today. Travis lets us in on a terrible joke in poor taste about the name of the show and Max tells us about some of the guiding principles that launched it back in the day.

Mr Butts, Green ringers, Dog theramins, Pedal Hero, Hashtag hashbrown, Wampler pedal tease...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

    499 - NAMM 2024 review - was a giant prank pulled?

    499 - NAMM 2024 review - was a giant prank pulled?

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 499 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Blake is back with us after an extended stint at NAMM and his voice is registering somewhere between Bane and Batman. Richard makes his feelings known much to Brian's amusement. Was this the best NAMM for several years? It sounds like it might have been and the guys chat about what this means for the guitar industry in general. Richard talks about some of the things he spotted including what he believes to be one of the world's biggest rude jokes.

Brian has a new mixer and he and Richard have a new pedal - the Keeley Muse Driver - and they both love it.  Richard is a big fan of the design and tells us why. The guys try and pull a prank on Brian and it fails miserably so they make more NAMM observations. Brian loses his mind. Whats the first brand you would recommend to a beginner of the electric guitar? The guys ponder this very question and attempt to explain the internet badly again.

The British King of Fuzz was denied access to a certain pedal so he decides to make his own. He also tells us about why he is a very old man via a nostalgic trip to his hometown. Brian recently ran a video and asked viewers to guess a the identity of a very popular pedal and the results may surprise you. Victory amps have gone high end with their new release and the guys are very excited by this.

498 - We have all the tones and are tubes amps dying?

498 - We have all the tones and are tubes amps dying?

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 498 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

We start off with some talk about the genetics of weightlifters and Ozzy Osbourne and somehow the two are related. Brian is looking forward to a week off from the world as he is not going to NAMM and Richard laments his lack of popularity.  His eye was turned by the new Keeley Muse Driver and completely fails to understand how it works. But he loves it.

Richard purchased the new EHX Golden Big Muff but is uncertain as to whether he made the cut - and you will have to wait until next week to find out whether he was successful. There is also a new pedal from Warm audio and the guys puzzle over how they avoid copyright issues before going on a completely unqualified legal debate.

The Smashing Pumpkins have had to employ full time staff to deal with the guitarist applications they have received and the guys roundly mock this scenario. Joe Bonamassa had an unusual way of dealing with a noisy neighbour issue and this brings Blake much amusement. A recent article talked about the death of tube amps and the guys dig into this with some help from Brian's son.

497 - New theme tune and new Gibson amplifiers

497 - New theme tune and new Gibson amplifiers

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 497 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian's recorded a new theme tune for the show and the guys are excited to share it with everyone before looking at some artificial unintelligence developments. Richard is not impressed with the underlying robotic signature or something. Whatever. He also tries to add some structure to the show with a special feature and it falls a little flat. Maybe.

What do you do with an LED with three legs? Richard needs some DIY advice and attempts to guess the weight of one of his co-hosts before coming up with a new product that frustrates Brian to the point of complete exasperation. This turns into a conversation about expensive cables and Brian has an idea.

Gibson have launched some new amplifiers and at first glance the guys love the authenticity of them, but upon deeper delving, they discover some marketing quirks. It quickly degenerates into a mass of confusion which we can only assume is caused by Gibson absentmindedly forgetting to send the guys an amp to test. Brian and Richard had a sneak preview of the new Andy Wood album and tell us all about it.

496 - Friends, Luthiers, Builders - send us your gear...Brian thinks about building an amp

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 496 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Richard has created a monster and has recorded 7 podcast episodes in 7 days and issues a formal apology before professing immense respect and love for Chibson and their body of work. Some gushing may occur. This leads on to a discussion about the new Schecter Machine Gun Kelly signature guitar and Brian refuses to believe it - and much to Richard's chagrin he also refuses to put his money where his mouth is. This leads on to a question about the most controversial guitar shape ever and the guys have an idea.

Have you ever tried a G&L guitar? The guys chat about them after a recommendation was made and they have reactions and Brian's head glows red when he realises he dropped the ball on some significant developments. Blake impersonates Tiny Tim.  Conversation inevitably turns to January's industry shindig, NAMM, and once again our British friend feels like Norman No-mates as he won't be going. EVER!

A 52 Blackguard Tele has been spotted in the next Gardiner Houlgate auction in the UK and Brian does some live "math" whilst the guys speculate about the price and conclude they need it. Brian is thinking about either buying or building a new amplifier and Richard tries to convince him to buy a Rivera as well while Blake is GASing for a Victory Kraken.  Brian is concerned for Richard as he invents a new cocktail and Blake tells us a disgusting story about diet cola and we invoke the spirits of Max and Travis. PSA - Do not listen to the credit roll on this episode unless you want to hear terrible things.

495 - Gear flipping and Brian wonders whether he should make a deluxe Belle pedal

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 495 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

The guys are back with a whole bunch of random views on what's going on in the gear world, and start off with some discussion about the Germanium Tumnus, gear flippers, and financial advice from Brian.  Richard's made a guitar error and he is not afraid to confess to his heinous crime and there is some talk about a new type of string bending mechanism that Brian probably needs.

Blake and the fine folk over at Stringjoy have a 30 Day Guitar challenge running and Richard listens to him this time and Brian admits to playing "that" solo over the holiday season.  A box was thrown away and causes Richard to reflect on his terrible life choices and he uses words that Brian doesn't understand.

Brian experienced a strange anomaly - has he re-entered the Matrix, is he experiencing the Mandela effect, or is he just incredibly tired and emotional?  Richard joins him in this rabbit hole and there is conspiracy chat before we return to Brian's pedalboard for New Year's Eve. Brian drops a name and Richard finds beauty in a sad story that came from Red Witch pedals.

494 - Happy New Year, Happy New Gear!

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for episode 494 of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Richard has been suffering badly with the Covids and opens up with some interesting confessions about the worst crimes he has committed. He is a terrible man. Brian and Blake also 'fess up and all the guys may - or may not - be in serious trouble as a result.  Richard tells us some guitar based tales of his family, of wandering minstrels, and the resultant jamming that occurred and his tonal observations thereafter.

Analogman made a video demonstrating his impressive Germanium diode surplus and Brian admits he is interested as Blake fantasises about growing another eye. The guys talk about mixing guitar based music and some of the common mistakes one can make in the process. Oh and there is some lag and more noiseless pickup talk. Richard also asks about New Years resolutions and Brian hints at something monumental. Well, 'hint' might be pushing it to be fair...

Brian talks about Big Muffs and ways to improve the classic circuit while Richard asks about the way the controls are designed and this leads into a wider discussion about pedals and naming conventions. Blake then proceeds to blow Brian's mind with nothing other than kilohertz and Richard tells us about his new guitar as the guys discuss guitar setup tips.

493 - Betwixtmas special - The KDH Interview

493 - Betwixtmas special - The KDH Interview

Brian and Richard are joined by infamous Youtube creator KDH for a special episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian invited Youtube creator and fellow gear nerd KDH onto the show and both he and Richard are astonished by how young he is - and by extension how old they are. He tells us about his earliest memories and the early inspirations that got him into playing, nerding out over gear, and making Youtube content. He tells us about his  band Walker and his 1980's Hard Rock influences which is music to Brian's ears. Richard apologizes in advance for any cultural reference point based crimes that Brian may be about to commit before jumping into what influenced KDH to form a particular investigative style.

Richard is suffering from the Covid and also manages to completely misjudge everything. The conversation turns into an interesting look at an angle that the guys have never really looked at before and it makes Richard challenge his own views and mentally implode. We touch on some of the infamous controversial videos that KDH has published and learn some disturbing facts as we gaze into the abyss that is the guitar industry as it gazes back at us.

Brian is intrigued by KDH's video production methodology and asks about how he comes up with new content while also finding ways to keep it interesting as Richard fires off back handed compliments and generally misinformed nonsense. The guys look at the pedal industry, some of the business practices therein, and the ethics of cloning versus completely copying pedals.

It's also the final episode for 2023 so we would like to wish you all a fantastic New Year! Next year will mark our 500th episode so we look forward to bringing you even more of the same great content and complete jackfoolery.

492 - New rack gear day and insert Tubescreamer here

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian has a new piece of gear and he is very happy with it so tells us all about it - could it mean the introduction of a new form factor for Wampler gear? Meanwhile Richard isn't feeling himself (turns out he had Covid brewing but didn't realise it) and Blake has a guitar mystery. Do you hang your guitars or put them on a stand? The guys discuss the pros and cons before Brian makes a cannibalistic confession.

Blake has been playing with the Wampler Metaverse Delay plugin and tells us about a neat trick he has discovered before further discussion over delay algorithms and delay pedals commences. Richard asks the question that everybody has been asking once again and Brian considers the commercial implications of his thought process.

Does the artwork for an album still have relevance in the digital streaming world? Richard has recently watched a documentary about Hipgnosis, famous album cover designers to the greatest bands of their era, and is equally inspired and moved.  He then makes a random confession and walks into a trap.

491 - So, about that new Wampler Germanium Tumnus pedal then...

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian welcomes us with tales of the sheer mania that occurred when we released a limited edition pedal that sold out instantly and he now wants to start manufacturing diodes for a living. There is some chatter about the technology inside the new Germanium Tumnus, the guys try to dispel a few common myths, and Richard tells us how he managed to break Google - and then invents something completely useless.

Blake and Brian give away a few video production tips for anyone trying to create their own gear channel and Richard laments the marketing efforts he and Brian made for a pedal that had already sold out. Meanwhile Brian is thinking about setting up a Wampler custom shop and gives you, dear listener, a heads up on this while Blake dreams of a new Leviathan fuzz and Richard has an epiphany!

Richard is worried about a porcine invasion into American lands and he quizzes the guys until there is a display of utter stupidity and farm based questioning. A proclamation about a new fuzz kit for the royal realms is heralded by Blake who also has a new gear day with an unexpected piece of kit and the guys love it. Brian accuses Richard of making things up.

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

We are joined today by Blake's manifestation of Maria Carey before Brian confounds his cohosts and we repeat the rules of Whamageddon for the benefit of the hard of thinking. Is Blake predicting the future and is Brian aware of the present? Almost. There is big pedal news too! Brian is releasing a very special pedal and he tells us all about it in this episode and it is sure to sell out quick - so this is an exclusive tip off for our beloved listeners!

Brian goes into great detail about a special component that makes this circuit sound a little different and there is some deep nerdery and unsolicited Lord of the Rings references. Meanwhile Richard went to meet industry legend Captain Anderton at his secret lair (ok, it's not so secret) and his mind is blown by the sheer number of beautiful things he got to look at, including the equally legendary Danish Pete.

What's your favorite speaker cab? The guys talk about their person favorite cab configurations and some potential speaker upgrades. An internet person has accused Brian of something and the guys chat around the concept of original circuits before passing on some ill thought and unprepared faux psychology tips.

Jinglebong, Blake's evil doppelganger, Boutique cheddar, Premium UK Content, Hempback speakers, Leviathans...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

489 - Is the JHS Notaklon a gateway drug?

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Welcome, listeners, to some serious guitar talk! This week the biggest subject has to be the new Notaklon pedal construction set from the fine folk at JHS and we look at the sheer marketing genius that went into this release. Richard is impressed and dismayed in equal measure and predicts the future of internet memes. Brian has ideas and Blake postulates that guitarists shouldn't own soldering irons before Brian gives a rather major hint and then grows increasingly confused about his own pedals.

What's the weirdest music conspiracy theory you have ever heard? Richard opens up this debate based around a video he watched and Brian makes a world podcasting exclusive before discussing some news in the tech world. He also has beef with a waxwork model of Jimi Hendrix and tells us why. Richard witnessed the actor Jason Momoa recreating the graphics for the Wampler Pantheon on SNL and it blew his mind and talks to us about it with some mild idiocy.

Blake channels his inner lycanthrope and Brian dreams of wearables while the guys return the debate to Idiocracy. Meanwhile in the Shred Shed young Blake ponders the desirability of a pedal that bestows the tonality of an MP3 on your guitar before the subject of limited use pedals comes up. Richard lowers the tone when he mentions a disgusting pizza before he moves on to biscuits and gravy and Blake tells him why he is wrong about nearly everything.

Merterherd, The three pedal stooges, Circuit learnetry, Jabba the Hutt, Joe Satriani, Cheeto dust...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

488 - Introducing the Wamplificator and Brian's new course!

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian has had orders from the very top to create a certain new type of pedal and he has been burning the midnight oil to achieve this so we start off by listening to his merry tales. Blake channels his inner royalty and Richard questions the levels of surveillance and espionage that Brian is currently engaged in.

Another Kickstarter guitar has surfaced, promising to change the world as we know it, and the guys rapidly form some views and talk about them. Meanwhile Brian has been thinking up new pedal names and the results are of course completely brilliant. Richard has been pontificating about changing his guitar practice habits and makes a point of telling us.

The Beatles are at number one in charts and Richard is aghast and enthused as only he can be. Brian has worked on a song than has lethal potential as demonstrated when the other hosts nearly die laughing. Richard made a romantic gift for his wife and ruins it with his odd humor but has also some country music confessions.  Brian has made a new course and you can find it at guitarpedalcourse.com.

Four Yorkshireman, Catty Wampus, Dignified snoring, the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, Jolene, Something new happening soon? ...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!

487 - Wampler goat coffee and the new Beatles song

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

We start off with an unusually medical introduction and Blake has new monitors but is very secretive about them but offers some beauty tips. Meanwhile Richard has had a goody bag from the amazing Markus Reeves of Reeves Electro and was highly impressed. Blake opens up an old wound with Richard and it stings. It stings hard.

What takes 300ma and makes the Internet lose its mind?  There's a new tuner from the tech wizards at Walrus Audio and the guys talk about it and Brian has some ideas on how to use it before evoking "that" solo again. He also gives us a few interesting tips on tuning and his favorite tuners. The new Beatles video makes Richard scratch his head but Brian is surprisingly indifferent. Richard asks whether the Beatles are the greatest pop group of all time and this leads to Blake singing some Backstreet Boys.

Blake wants a new signature Stratocaster and Richard takes the proverbial but admits that it is a beautifully put together guitar before dreaming up a new way of blackmailing potential advertisers. Then the British government disconnects Richard from the grid. Brian has been working on a new course about gain and he tells us all about it. Ai Joe Rogan reads the Patreon credits.

486 - Halloween Spooktacular, fake guitar strings, and the Duke of delay

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian heralds this episode in with a very royal fanfare and there is much merriment and delusion filled laughter as we hail the British King of fuzz. Brian hasn't been sleeping because he's been coming up with a multitude of crazy new ideas and he tells us about that as the guys trade age and caffeine based tales.

Richard tries to give the episode a Halloween theme against a backdrop of mild protestations and we discover that Brian has been out gigging on the Chickin' Picken' circuit. Brian tells us about the scary movies he has seen and the guys talk about scary music and wax lyrical about John Carpenter's musical chops.  Richard discusses "Diabolus in Musica" as the discussion on spooky music threatens to become intellectual but the guys quickly rectify that.

Have you ever struck your elbow with a telecaster? It really hurts and the guys talk about guitar related mishaps before discussing a recent controversy in two parts starting with a discussion about "mojo" components and then the evil practice of dressing up newer components to look exactly like vintage ones. Meanwhile Brian has some unhygienic plans for the holiday season and makes a proclamation that has both his co-hosts questioning reality. Ai Gandalf reads the credits.

485 - Guitar gear controversy and how to make the distort

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

There is some prime guitar related content, allegedly, as the guys look at a recent moment of controversy involving a guitar learning tool and Richard makes a shocking personal revelation or two. Brian, on the other hand, has been arguing with machines. It is exactly as moronic as it sounds. Blake tries to inject some sensibility back into the conversation with limited success.

Blake wears two different hats, and reminds us he doesn't like one of the bestselling pedals of all time. Brian fires Richard on air before backing down and reaching an agreement about the best way to learn the guitar. Richard nearly knows all the chords and Brian mocks British bands of the 1990's. Some footage of Mr Oliver playing drums with Andy Wood has been leaked to the internet.

How do you feel about music while you eat? Blake has views and the guys chat about the pros and cons while Richard mentions a recent story involving a world famous producer and the loudness of a DJ , and Blake demonstrates his ability to deliver the worst Mick Jagger vocal impersonation ever. Brian has invented a new club for dullards, and Richard has found a new amp to GAS over from the boffins at ENGL. Ai Batman reads the credits.

484 - Andy Wood masterclass and grunge level 10

Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!

Brian has been dabbling with technology whereas Blake's mind is going at a million miles a minute and he may just be losing his mind.  This is the result of caffeine abuse and Brian is confused. Blake has been to see a punk band which leads to a debate about the best looking Les Paul ever. Whats the most annoying injury you can have as a guitar player? Richard has a theory and expounds upon it.

Richard found himself not just attending but also presenting at a masterclass with Wampler Artist (and friend of the show) Andy Wood - and so the self titled 'English King of Fuzz' expounded on his knowledge. He also got to look at a very special Les Paul and tells us all about it. There was a really cool coincidence and there was really hot Indian food and a secret jam may or may not have taken place with the Electric Love Aquatone.

The guys have discovered a new guitar gimmick and they discuss the merits of it and Brian has a number of product ideas. Richard apologises to the Big F as he was given a bum steer on some information about the Tone Master Pro.  He also has some further DIY questions for Professor Wampler and so is schooled in a methodology that may or may not serve him for life. Brian saw some UFOs and has a minor Patreon update. Airnold Schwarzenegger reads the credits.
