The 5 Biggest Business Mistakes That Pediatricians Make

The 5 Biggest Business Mistakes That Pediatricians Make

Last year, I was working with our marketing people to focus on our clients' "pain points."  They asked me, "What problems and mistakes do you see the most often in the offices you visit?"  I went into a rant and started writing things on a white board to keep it all organized.  When the pen ran out of ink, I took a step back and realized...hey, this is important stuff.

Since then, I've had the chance to deliver a seminar with the title above: The Five Biggest Business Mistakes Pediatricians Make - Free Seminar.  In each instance, I've had about 45 minutes to cover all the content and take questions.  Now we want to take it to the next level!

In a series of free, on-line webinars, we presented this topic, and then I dug deeply into each of the individual topics.  For example, when I cover "Get out of your office!" or "Do Your Homework" I'm not just going to toss out a few thoughts and move on, I'm going to spend some real time with examples and practical advice.

Episode 4: 5 Pediatric EHR Challenges

Episode 4: 5 Pediatric EHR Challenges

In this episode, I spend a little under 20 minutes describing 5 things every pediatric practice should consider before purchasing an EHR.  If you're a PCC client already, sure - maybe this is old news.  But if you are a pediatrician, even if you're never going to consider PCC, spend 17 minutes and get an insider's view of what the important features of a pediatric EHR are - my answers will surprise you, I promise.

During the podcast, I refer to PCC's productivity calculator - it's a free on-line tool we developed to let any physician - not just PCC clients, not just pediatricians! - calculate the impact of an EHR on productivity.  A few days after we recorded this podcast, we updated our WWW site, so the location has actually changed!  You can find the productivity calculator here.

    I'll be back shortly, promise!

    Episode 3: Practice Management Calendar

    Episode 3: Practice Management Calendar

This may be long overdue, but worth the wait.  A few months back, Dr. Suzanne Berman (star of SOAPM list and stage) emailed me with a question about her practice.  That question led to a quick back and forth exchange of "all the things a practice should do on a periodic basis."  We brainstormed a long list and then sat down to talk about it for almost an hour.  Dr. Berman came up with some fantastic reminders.

A list of all the important housecleaning items we came up with is posted on the blog - let us know what we missed so we can add it and share with the world.

    Episode 1: ICD-10 and Pediatrics

    Episode 1: ICD-10 and Pediatrics

In this inaugural episode, Chip explores the impacts of ICD-10 on pediatrics with PCC's Jan Blanchard (CPC, CPEDC).  They discuss the importance of documentation, the state of readiness of pediatric practices, EHR vendors and carriers, the role of episodes of care in coding, resources available to pediatricians, and other topics.
