    Today, we have a special guest, author Kyla Zhao, known for her debut novel "The Fraud Squad." Born and raised in Singapore, Kyla graduated from Stanford University with a Master's in Communications (Media Studies) and a Bachelor's in Psychology. She works in marketing at a tech company in Silicon Valley, California. 

    Besides novel writing, Kyla has an extensive magazine editorial portfolio. Previously, she was a fashion and lifestyle writer at Vogue Singapore. She has also written for the Singapore editions of Harper's Bazaar and Tatler, covered the Asian Television Awards, and interviewed personalities such as singer Nathan Sykes. Above all else, Kyla hopes to champion Asian representation in her works and write the characters of color that she rarely got to read about when she was young.

    This was a really fun episode! I invited writer, Armaan Babu to discuss the similarities and differences between the White Lotus compared to Madame Butterfly! Full transparency: I have not seen season 2 of The White Lotus, and he had not seen the opera, Madame Butterly. So I thought it would be fun to merge notes! 

    Armaan Babu is a freelance writer and nerdy pop culture critic, who writes about video games, comics, movies, and television shows. He also has a background in theater, having worked for nine years as a production manager for Quiver Productions.     Laurie Halverson, is a conservative activist in Montgomery County, and  an education advocate for over ten years. She served as PTA leader at the local and county levels , a Maryland State Board of Education Member, and is currently serving on the Montgomery County Board of License Commissioners and President of the Chevy Chase Women’s Republican Club, the largest women’s Republican club in Maryland.

     Laurie has a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Kentucky. She is a 2013 Leadership Montgomery Graduate. Widowed in 2015 from a husband of almost 23 years, she has two grown sons who were educated through MCPS. She enjoys helping boy scouts as a merit badge counselor for “Citizenship in the Community."

    Don't Accept Street Harassment ....Hollaback!

    In our global society, there is a high prevalence for street harassment. In 2014, a representative survey of 2,000 Americans was conducted. 25% of men and 65% of women reported having been the victims of street harassment in their lives, which is a form of harassment, primarily sexual harassment that consists of unwanted comments, gestures, honking, and etc by strangers in public areas such as streets, shopping malls, and public transportation. Not only does this type of harassment occur on the street, but it also carries over into the workplace in varying degrees.

    Today's guest has been fully involved in combating street harassment since 2005. Emily May, the Co-Founder and Executive Director of  Hollaback. Hollaback! is a photoblog and grassroots initiative to raise awareness about street harassment and workplace harassment  by posting photographs and narrative accounts of individuals' encounters. It’s an organization running by local activists in 79 cities, 26 countries, and operates in 14 languages.

    Today’s guest is Mr. Gregory Coll who is currently running for U.S. Congress in Maryland and is  on the ballot in the general election on November 3, 2020. He advanced from the Republican primary on June 2, 2020.  Professionally, he is a systems engineer team manager, involved in NASA's space projects; Mr. Coll set his goals on obtaining a job working on the Space Shuttle program after graduating from college early.  He started with United Space Alliance working on the Main Propulsion System of the Space Shuttle in February of 2004, and it was a dream come true for him. Mr. Coll currently serves on volunteer boards, and is actively engaged in his community.

Outside of politics, Brandon is active in his community and is a co-founder for a Maryland  Chapter of 100 Black Men of America, Inc.
