Ep.4 - Keep The Cameras Rolling with Matt West

This is an episode dedicated to the storytellers who choose video as their means to tell those stories. Matt West and I have known each other for a good number of years now and he is always someone who is creative, funny, and is always thinking about life and any story, no matter how exciting or mundane it is, in terms of how he can turn it into a movie.

Matt is an absolute machine at churning out content and in finding the story in absolutely everything. The road to his filming making career has not been a direct one, nor has it been an easy one but it certainly is the thing he dreamed about doing when we was just a young boy.

I hope by listening to Matt's journey you can begin to be inspired by the stick-to-idness that he had and that you do can be as tenacious about the projects you have ahead of yourself.

Ep.3 - Trust Your Gut - Fifteen Minute Friday

Ep.3 - Trust Your Gut - Fifteen Minute Friday

This is a  brand new series I will be taking on where each Friday I share 15 minutes worth of thoughts and clips about a concept, a theory, something I read, watched, heard that relates to people doing more cool shit. Hopefully this becomes a series where you find inspiration or become curious about a new talk a new book or something that gets you thinking and more importantly doing!

This episode is all about Trusting Your Gut. The question was sparked from a page in the book Soul Pancake. What's one time you wish you had trusted your gut? Why didn't you?

I've often thought about this question, unknowingly, "jeeze I wish I would have said that" "damn, I wish I would have signed up for that course" these are the kinds of things that we all say to ourselves. But instead of just trusting our gut, when we knew we were right, we talk ourselves out of things. Why do we do that and how can we stop doing that?

In this episode I played 2 clips, one from Simon Sinek and one from David Vobora both of which you can check out, along with some other great videos and inspiration, in the links below:

    1. Simon Sinek - Should You Trust Your Gut
    2. Trust Your Gut | David Vobora | TEDxSMU
    3. Hugh MacLeod - Ignore Everybody Book
    4. Yes You Should Trust Your Gut (Here's How)
    5. Gut Feelings Are Real, but Should You Really ‘Trust Your Gut’?

Good shit can happen when you just let go and you trust your gut. Bad things can happen as well, but far and few between. You're smarter than you think. You almost always know.

One thing that I have always asked when people come to work with me is how much they are worth? This question always gets the same response, a look off into the distance or down at their feet. But if I sit there long enough in the silence, I smile, they smile, they say "oh I don't know" but that is crap you do know. We all know. We all have gut instincts. I hold firm and I ask again "how much money do you want, and how much time do you want?" They know then that I'm not joking. It's the first time they have ever been asked this but immediately they know they have an answer, doesn't mean we can't haggle back and forth about it but they have an answer. I love when people have an answer.

Ep.2 - Making Your Own Beat in Music with Craig Cardiff

One of the things that gets me fired up on any day that I'm feeling a bit down or a bit sluggish is music. Music can drive the legs, the heart, the head, and the soul forward at just about any time.

In this episode I'm so lucky to talk to my dear friend Craig Cardiff who has been making music his life for a very long time. I have alway admired his ability to connect with people and to make everyone in the room feel at ease during his shows. Craig shares some of his stories and the lessons that help keep him creating.

Craig also just dropped a new album and had an amazing 100 city virtual tour. Check out more about Craig here https://www.craigcardiff.com/ and get your hands on one of his albums here: All This Time Running
