2024 Nominees Who Should (And Will) Get Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame - “If You Have to Pick 3 …” | Epic Footnote Productions

The time has come to ask: out of all the nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2024 (which includes everyone from Mariah Carey, Cher, Mary J. Blidge, and Sinead O’Connor, to Ozzy Osbourne, Oasis, Lenny Kravitz, and Dave Matthews Band), which three deserve to be inducted the most? And which three 2024 nominees are most likely to get inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame this year?

Both questions are up for debate in this episode of Epic Footnote Productions’ “If You Have to Pick 3 … ,” a podcast where we have to pick our top three choices on any given topic (bands, albums, songs, genres, whatever!). After hosts Matt Gamba and Zach Shaw each share their personal favorites, they then have to come to an agreement on a final top 3.

Green Day, “Saviors” - 2 Minutes to Review | Epic Footnote Productions

Green Day releasing a new album in 2024 is gutsy considering they could have costed the year by simply celebrating the 30th anniversary of "Dookie" and 20th anniversary of "American Idiot"... so does their 14th album "Saviors" come even close to replicating the magic captured on those two game changing punk rock records?

What If Taylor Swift Never Re-Recorded Her Albums? | “What If?” | Epic Footnote Productions

What If Taylor Swift Never Re-Recorded Her Albums? | “What If?” | Epic Footnote Productions

To say Taylor Swift had an incredible 2023 is an enormous understatement - between taking the world by storm with The Eras Tour and breaking records with the “Taylor’s Versions” of her albums “Speak Now” and “1989”, the past year helped cement Taylor’s legacy as an artist unlike any other… but what if she never re-recorded her first six albums in response to Scooter Braun by Big Machine Records (and in turn buying her albums’ masters)? Would we be having the same conversations about Taylor Swift if solely focused on creating new music?

That's what Matt and Zach discuss during a new episode of "What If?" In this podcast series, we analyze hypothetical scenarios surrounding moments in music history that nearly happened, and hypothesize what the outcomes could’ve been if that “what if” became a reality.

Dolly Parton, “Rockstar” - 2 Minutes to Review | Epic Footnote Productions

When Dolly Parton got inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, she promised to record a “rock” album to justify her inclusion. Well, not only did she make good on her word by recording a mix of cover songs and originals for an album aptly titled “Rockstar,” but also enlisted a stacked lineup of guests to duet with (including Paul McCartney, Elton John, Miley Cyrus, Steven Tyler, Pink, Rob Halford, Stevie Nicks, and a TON more) … but does the country icon hit the right notes with her attempt to be a rockstar, or do her covers of classics by bands like Led Zeppelin, Queen, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones leave behind a sour aftertaste?

Find out what Matt and Zach think in Epic Footnote Productions’ “2 Minutes to Review,” a podcast that’s part album review and part competition. Guns N’ Roses’ Sporadic Singles - Am I Missing Something? | Epic Footnote Productions

Hearing new music from Guns N’ Roses “should” be exciting. But does Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan opting to sporadically release singles instead of an actual album of new music dampen the experience? And does the fact that those singles - 2021’s “ABSURD” and “Hard Skool,” along with 2023’s “Perhaps” and “The General” - are merely re-workings of leftovers from “Chinese Democracy” make it even worse?

That’s what Matt and Zach discuss in the latest episode of “Am I Missing Something?,” a podcast where we analyze popular or unpopular bands, albums, songs or music trends in an attempt to figure out what we seem to be “missing.” The goal isn’t to ridicule, but rather to gain a better understanding of what a majority of fans see or don’t see in something that Matt and Zach simply can’t wrap their heads around.

The Beatles have unleashed the biggest surprise of 2023: a new song. So does "Now And Then" live up to the Fab Four's incredible legacy, or should the surviving members have left this John Lennon demo (which was initially deemed unusable but brought back to life thanks in part to Peter Jackson’s AI technology) in the vault?

The Rolling Stones, “Hackney Diamonds” - 2 Minutes to Review | Epic Footnote Productions

The Rolling Stones releasing their first album of new material in over 18 years is a big enough deal on its own. Throw in the fact that this also marks their first album since Charlie Watts’ passing (as well as his last known recordings with the band), plus the guest appearances from the Beatles’ Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, Elton John and original bassist Bill Wyman, and you’ve got hands down one of the most anticipated rock albums of 2023. What If Led Zeppelin Toured Without Robert Plant? | “What If?” | Epic Footnote Productions

What If Led Zeppelin Toured Without Robert Plant? | “What If?” | Epic Footnote Productions

Led Zeppelin wowed the world in December 2007 with a reunion show at London's O2 Arena. Yet while Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and the late John Bonham’s son Jason wanted to keep the winning streak going, Robert Plant made it immediately clear he had no interest in performing more shows. That led the remaining members to hold secret auditions throughout 2008 for a singer. Not much is actually known about these sessions (Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Alter Bridge’s Myles Kennedy are the only singers to have publicly confirmed their participation, and it was never confirmed what Page and co’s intentions actually were), but ultimately nothing came to fruition… but what if those 2008 sessions actually did lead to something? What if Led Zeppelin followed their massively successful O2 Arena reunion with a tour sans Robert Plant?

That's what Matt and Zach discuss during a new episode of "What If?" In this podcast series, we analyze hypothetical scenarios surrounding moments in music history that nearly happened, and hypothesize what the outcomes could’ve been if that “what if” became a reality.

What If Green Day Never Released “American Idiot”? | “What If?” | Epic Footnote Productions

What If Green Day Never Released “American Idiot”? | “What If?” | Epic Footnote Productions

To say “American Idiot” gave Green Day a second wind is a massive understatement - it’s the massively successful comeback album that cemented the punk trio’s legacy as one of rock’s biggest acts. And yet it almost never came to be - just a year prior to “American Idiot” coming out, Green Day decided to start creating a new album from scratch after the masters to a different nearly finished album “Cigarettes And Valentines” were mysteriously stolen… But what if the band decided to re-record “Cigarettes And Valentines” instead (or if the masters were never stolen to begin with), and in turn never recorded “American Idiot”? How could never releasing the landmark punk rock opera not only impact Green Day’s legacy, but also the entire rock scene of the 2000s and beyond?

That's what Matt and Zach discuss during a new episode of "What If?" In this podcast series, we analyze hypothetical scenarios surrounding moments in music history that nearly happened, and hypothesize what the outcomes could’ve been if that “what if” became a reality.

Van Halen sent the world into a frenzy when they appeared onstage with David Lee Roth at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards. But Roth and Eddie Van Halen barely made it off stage before they started butting heads like old times, with all hope of seeing the classic Van Halen lineup reuniting dying quickly. But what if all actually went smoothly between the estranged bandmates at Radio City Music Hall that night - so well that it inspired them to embark on a proper reunion tour right after the infamous VMAs appearance?

That's what Matt and Zach discuss on the debut episode of "What If?" In this new podcast series, we analyze hypothetical scenarios surrounding moments in music history that nearly happened, and hypothesize what the outcomes could’ve been if that “what if” became a reality.

Also listen to a ton of other episodes where Van Halen is heavily discussed:
