Recently, the leaders of 3DM North America gathered to worship, pray, learn, and talk about the vision of the movement. Some of our leaders presented short "TED Talks," and on this episode, we are featuring one of them. Austin Catalano who is a wife, mother, school leader and house church leader spoke about how parents can think and parent missionally as they raise their kids. Specifically, her challenge is for parents to consider ways that they can prepare their children to grow into missional adults. Austin's talk was so powerful and helpful that we are sharing it with you - and then our host and director of 3DM North America, Gina Mueller, chimes in to share her thoughts about missional parenting.

When it comes to being a disciple and making disciples, what are you? Are you more a theologian or more a practitioner? Most of us are one or the other, but Gina's guest on this episode helps us see the importance of being both. David Broberg is the Assistant Director of Discipleship at Gordon–Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts, so - for sure - he's a theologian. But, he's also been in a 3DM Huddle where he was sharpened in his disciple-making practices and called it 'life changing!" So, he's a theologian and a practitioner as well! David shares how important it is to be both in discipleship and disciple-making, and he shares some stories from his neighborhood where he and his wife have seen God at work.

Actually, pretty cool things happen - like laughter, sharing, new friendships, and even "church!" This is the story of Gina's guests on this episode. Rob and Kelly Abrams hold family-on-mission as a high value, so when they moved their family from New Jersey to Maine a few years back, they came with a plan! And this plan shaped not only their home's design, but it also shaped their family calendar, their people interactions, and even when they fired up their grill and what they put on it!

Gina's guest is Steve Bruns who leads a 3DM-like network of missional church movements from his home base in Norway called Agenda1. Agenda1 is a relational network of churches on a journey together to build missional churches that transform cultures by making disciples who make disciples in the power of the Holy Spirit. Sounds familiar, huh?!

Under Steve's leadership, Agenda1 currently has fourteen Learning Communities in Norway with around 130 groups representing 80 churches from many denominations. And, they've also spread their disciple-making influence to churches in Myanmar, the Philippines, Nepal, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan, Finland, several countries in Africa, Cuba and even the United States!

Steve is here to share some amazing stories of how God is at work raising up everyday people in Asia to be disciples who make disciples, and he has a few important words for us here in North America about the things he's learned from the explosive missional movements he's a part of worldwide.

Gina's guest is Brian Gerig who has been on mission for a long time! Brian co-founded a city-wide youth ministry in Ft. Wayne, Indiana called "The Powerhouse" in 1995 that is still going strong today. He joins Gina to tell stories of how he and his team have been equipping teens to go on mission to their friends and family members for nearly 30 years. He also shares some encouraging news about what God is doing today among a new generation of teens who are hungry for community, for purpose, and for God!

Gina's guest is Steven Barr, the founder of Cast Member Church, a global network of micro-churches for Disney cast members - most of whom have never been part of a church or have ever even opened a Bible before! The Cast Member church movement is a Jesus-centered family specifically designed for Disney cast members that ​extends across six continents, with local expressions (called "CommuniDs") in Orlando, Anaheim, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. These CommuniDs include different nationalities, ethnicities, languages, and perspectives - including those who are critical of religion, conflicted about faith, confused by Christianity, or curious about Jesus. www.3dmovements.com

Jeremy and Nicole Snoberger join Gina to tell their story of how God is speaking to and leading them (as empty nesters) on a brand new mission. Paul Maconochie is back to talk to us about how we can engage in and see victory in the spiritual battles we face when we step out in obedience to Jesus' call to discipleship and mission. That's when spiritual warfare seems to always heat up - when we step out in obedience to Jesus. Paul is a pastor with the 5-fold gifting of prophet, and the insight he brings on this topic is important and very helpful.

From 2004 to 2014 Paul led the church in Sheffield where much of Lifeshapes and the other 3DM tools and principles were developed, following Mike Breen as Senior Pastor. During this time the church grew significantly through Missional Communities based all over the city. Paul also helped to establish 3DM Europe and the UK 3DM Network during this time (now called Kairos Connexion). In 2014 he and his family moved to the USA, where he now works as a Pastor at Grace Gathering, New Haven Indiana and is a part of the 3DM North America Team. www.3dmovements.com

Mike's guest is Paul Maconochie who was "on the ground" when 3DM got its start in Sheffield, England some 30 years ago. Paul was a university student back then and found his way to St Thomas Church, Crookes (which is now known as "STC Sheffield."). It would be there that Paul would experience an incredible move of God, and it would be there that Paul would be connected with 3DM's founder, Mike Breen. Paul is here to not just share with us some of the "behind the scenes" stories of how 3DM came to be, but he will also tell about some of the significant and powerful moves of God that has led to 3DM as we know it today. www.3dmovements.com 

Mike’s guest on this episode is someone who has been on mission to make disciples and grow the church all of his adult life. His name is Tony Plummer, and along with his wife Lisa, they live and minister in Venice, FL. Tony is here to encourage all of us to keep going in the ministry God has called us to. His story - which is still being written - is one of high highs and some pretty low lows. In the early 2000s, Tony had what he describes as a "complete breakdown" as a result of ministry burnout, depression, and anxiety that sidelined him for over a year. All of this led him to the realization that he didn't really know Jesus like he thought he did. 

He's here to share what he has learned - and is still learning - through all of this. So, if you're on mission - whether in your neighborhood, with friends or co-workers, or at your church, then this conversation about how to deal with and even avoid ministry burnout will be so important. www.3dmovements.com

Gina is on a well-deserved mini sabbatical, so Mike Potter fills in as the host with his guest, Jesse Harden. Jesse has quite a story to tell. He and his wife, Joanna, are people who listen to the Lord and seek to follow His leading in their lives. This listening and following has led to quite an adventure - an adventure full of fruit, and an adventure full of hurdles too.  

Jesse served as a youth and associate pastor in Albuquerque, NM for 12 years, and during that time began to sense the Lord calling him and his family to move into the roughest section of an already rough city. Jesse is here to tell the story of what happened when he sensed God calling him to leave his traditional church ministry position, move to an area of town referred to by many as the "war zone," and live and minister there with his wife and kids. www.3dmovements.com

This podcast is just over a year old, and one of our most popular episodes so far was a discussion Gina had about living on mission in a small town setting (Episode 9). So, we decided to do another episode about being on mission in a small town, but this time with pastor and professor Jason McConnell. And if there was ever a guy to talk about this topic - it's Jason!

He has a B.A. in pastoral ministry from Moody Bible Institute, an M.Div. and Th.M. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and (get this!), he has a D. Min. in rural ministry from Beeson Divinity School! Gina is the North American Director of 3DM, but she's also an everyday wife, mom, church-planter, disciple of Jesus and a disciple-maker.
