    Eye of the Duck

A podcast about movies and the scenes that make them special.

Each week, hosts Dom Nero and Adam Volerich explore a movie by finding the scene at its core–what David Lynch calls an "Eye of the Duck" scene.

Join Dom and Adam as they celebrate cinema's greatest scenes, charting franchises such as Alien, The Evil Dead, and Indiana Jones, and major movements in film history, like '80s Dark Fantasy, Winter Horror, and Cyberpunk.

Our final bonus of the series! Joining us is our old friend, co-host of Into the Aether podcast, Stephen Hilger! Today we're hitting a modern dark fantasy film that goes back to the source in a big (and surprisingly classy) way: DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS: HONOR AMONG THIEVES. This one goes out to our man with the wings, Jarnathan.

    The Green Knight (2021) Revisited

Bonus!! It’s been 2 whole years, and we’re doing something we’ve never done before….back in 2021 we shared a rare in-person screening of David Lowery’s THE GREEN KNIGHT right in the midst of the pandemic. It was a whirlwind (the projector was out of focus for most of it). Now that we’ve given the movie a proper (and very thorough) viewing, we couldn’t resist reevaluating it for this series. Off with yer head!

Somehow...George Lucas has returned! And also, our old friend, Desmond Thorne. Join us this week for a journey into the land of Ron Howard's WILLOW, where Queen Bavmorda of Nockmaar reigns, Warwick Davis delights, and babe-era Val Kilmer smolders. We're just about at the end of our series. But you can't close the book on '80s Dark Fantasy without unpacking Lucas's very own entry into the genre.

Inconceivable! As we near the end of the 80s, one (kind of) dark fantasy movie stands proudly in our way...PRINCESS BRIDE! It may not be the most brooding or atmospheric of the pack, but there's simply no way we couldn't dissect this all-time genre highlight.

    Excalibur (1981)

Podcasters of the round table, assemble. John Boorman's EXCALIBUR may be a bit grittier and more 1970s-esque than the bulk of the '80s Dark Fantasy films on our slate. But the genre (and many actors' careers) simply does not exist without it. Also, this technically counts as our second Grail quest movie.
