Pastor Dr. Cabrera and his wife, Elvia, are founders of New Life Outreach International church, a congregation which has grown to nearly 400 members in the Bronx, New York. As a pastor, he has led his congregation toward community action against violence, implemented youth leadership programs, and offered free drug rehabilitation services and support groups.
He has worked tirelessly for this church since 1988 without receiving a salary. He loves the Bronx and believes that the future is promising, but he also knows that we need strong leaders to guide and shape that future. He believes that if you passionately work toward the things you believe in, the results will come, and his record of accomplishments and vision for the future is a testament to that.
Dr. Fernando Cabrera also has been the NYC Council Member representing the 14th district in the Bronx since January 2009. His leadership positions in the NYC Council include: Co-Chair of the NYC Council Black, Latino and Asian Caucus, Co-Chair of the Gun Violence Task Force and Chair of the Technology Committee.
Councilman Cabrera had been a staunch advocate for tenants, youth and seniors. He is the former program director for the Mental Health and Counseling program at Mercy College, where also taught for the last 12 years. Dr. Fernando Cabrera earned his B.A. in Religion from Southern California College, M.A. in Counseling from Liberty University and Doctorate in Counseling from Argosy University.
A family man, Dr. Cabrera has been married to Elvia Cabrera for 28 years. They have two wonderful children, Lissette Feliciano (34) who is married to Carlos Feliciano, who also serve as co-pastors, and Joshua (26) who has worked with him to bring positive change to the Bronx and is graduate of Columbia University. Dr. Cabrera is the proud grandfather of two boys, Zechariah and Nehemiah Feliciano.
For his excellence in public service, Fernando Cabrera has received numerous recognition's from organizations and government officials.
Pastor Cabrera often states that the major source of joy in his life is being a part of his family, church and community.
