The Staggering Expense of Raising Children Today - Expert Edition Episode 55

The Staggering Expense of Raising Children Today - Expert Edition Episode 55

Today, I want to talk about something that's been on my mind a lot. Did you know some families pay as much for childcare each month as they do for their house? That's right! For example, I pay $3,400 a month just so someone can take care of my kids while I work. That's the same as my house payment! It's crazy expensive, and it's not just me feeling this pinch. I read an article from the U.S. Department of Labor that says childcare costs a lot of money everywhere in the United States. This makes it super hard for families to afford to have kids, and it's tough on the people who work in childcare too. They don't get paid very much, which doesn't seem fair since they do such an important job. Can't wait to hear what you think, so be sure to let me know!

The Path to Being Financially Present - Episode 59

The Path to Being Financially Present - Episode 59

In today's episode, I'm super excited to share a special story with you. Imagine going on an adventure in a big amusement park, where instead of rides, we're exploring the world of investing. My friend Mawuli Vodi joined us to chat about how he learned to make money work for him, even when he didn't have to work for it! Mawuli grew up in a family that worked super hard, but money was always a bit tight. He became super curious about investing and turned that curiosity into a career as a stockbroker. Now, he loves teaching people just like you and me how to understand investing, so we can save and grow our money for really cool things in the future.

    About our guest:
Mawuli Vodi, a former stockbroker and financial consultant with over nine years of experience, embarked on his financial journey out of curiosity and the desire to understand the complexities of investing and the stock market. Not coming from wealth, Mawuli sought to fill the gaps in his financial knowledge by diving into an internship at a brokerage firm during the 2008 mortgage crisis, a time he regards as the most educational period of his life. Recognizing the lack of financial education in traditional schooling, he founded Financially Present to share his knowledge and experiences, aiming to equip others with the tools to navigate personal finance, investment strategies, and risk management. Mawuli is committed to creating a culture of financial advancement and literacy, ensuring that future generations are better prepared to build and sustain wealth.

Transforming Maternal Care through Education, Advocacy, and Change - Episode 54

Welcome back to another insightful episode, and today we're diving deep into the critical issues surrounding black maternal morbidity, mortality, and patient advocacy. Joining us is Lorvena Dorvilus, a passionate nurse who shares her eye-opening experiences and initiatives aimed at empowering our birthing communities. We explore the real challenges faced in the healthcare system, especially by black and brown mothers, and discuss ways to bridge the educational gap to ensure safer, more informed birthing experiences. Tune in for a powerful conversation that sheds light on the vital link between personal finance and maternal health.

    About our guest:
Lorvena Dorvilus is a dedicated labor and delivery nurse with a two-year background, originally from Haiti and raised in Florida. Her passion for caring for people and women's health was sparked during nursing school and further intensified by a mission trip to Liberia. Lorvena is keenly aware of the educational and autonomy gaps in maternal healthcare, especially in low-income communities. She founded "The Labor Lounge" and is pursuing Lamaze Childbirth Educator training. She advocates for informed childbirth choices and believes in the natural power of women's bodies to birth, aiming to empower women and families in their birthing experiences.
