Episode #40 w/ Bee Burn Black; Boobies, Bubbies and Bacias

Episode #40 w/ Bee Burn Black; Boobies, Bubbies and Bacias

CW for this one: sexual assault, trauma, sex talk

In this episode, I did something a bit different. I spoke at length with my friend Bee, who lives in Chicago and does a zine called Burn Black (and an upcoming podcast called Big Thick Energy).

We've had this idea for a while about doing a special podcast episode where we discuss, openly, about sexual assault/trauma and how it relates to dating, relationships and mental illness. This will be a two part episode. Part 2 coming eventually.

The only song played was a special request by Bee. Reagan Youth - "It's A Beautiful Day".

Thanks for listening and we hope you like.

    Episode #39 w/ Timeshares

On January 5th, 2018, I hung out in the band room of Baby's All Right in Brooklyn, NY and chatted with Mike Natoli, Jon Hernandez and Max Stern of the NY/Philadelphia based Timeshares. We chatted about their newest, self-released EP On Life Support, Max joining up with the band in the last year, bagels, doughnuts, milkshakes, and everything in between.

Jon Pagano, formerly of Rhode Island's Weak Teeth, was touring with Timeshares as a 5th member and makes a brief appearance as well.

And we're back! Returning from our first show back since July of 2016, with guests (and also returned band), Albany, NY's Aficionado

In early March of 2017, I sat down with Aficionado duel vocalists Nick Warchol and Laura Carrozza (also flutist) at Suburbia in Brooklyn, NY to discuss why the band decided to get back together after 5 years, their upcoming new album on No Sleep Records, what they've been up to and more fun stuff.

We also talked a bit about their other musical projects and I play two tracks from Aficionado side bands, Hospital Corners and Death Vacation. It's a reunion!

Arty is also a longtime fixture in New York's music scene, having played in bands such as Mind Over Matter, Errortype: 11, Instruction, and currently in UnWed and Primitive Weapons.

Arty and I sat in St. Vitus's basement and had an awesome conversation. Check it out!

    Episode #33 w/ Roger Harvey

Earlier in January, I sat down with Pittsburgh, PA/Brooklyn/Philadelphia transplant and great human, Roger Harvey, in the basement of St. Vitus Bar in Brooklyn and asked him some questions. Apologies in advance for the noise in this - the venue's ice machine was making it and I did all I could to fix it in editing (though it made for some funny moments).

Roger should be touring a lot this year, so check out his 2015 release, Twelve Houses, and go see him play!

Episode #32 w/ Genna Howard & Christian Beale

Episode #32 w/ Genna Howard & Christian Beale

Happy 2016! For the first podcast of the year, I broke form a bit and had two of my dear friends on the show. Genna Howard is an up and coming tattoo artist, artist, and photographer (she's shot The Fest for a few years in a row); Christian Beale has played in bands such as This Is Hell, Extinction A.D., and his current project, Starving Arts.

We sat in their apartment in Brooklyn and shot the shit about Fest, touring, our respective holidays, The Sims video game series, vegan food/restaurants and they briefly interviewed me, which was pretty cool. We also delved a bit towards the end to talk about top records of 2015.

Brief music from G.L.O.S.S. and Starving Arts.

Better late than never to finally post up the Fest 14 episodes, right? Apologies.

That said, same format as last year. Mini interviews and talks with band-folk who played or attended this year's Fest party. The ending was me and my Fest hotel roomies talking about our weekend in the Tampa, FL airport that Monday following the Fest while waiting to fly home to New York.

This features Billy Bolinger of Podactor/Crucial Dudes, Tom Rheault of No Trigger, and Ed McNulty of Beach Slang.

Episode #26 w/ Jason Cruz (Strung Out, Jason Cruz and Howl)

Episode #26 w/ Jason Cruz (Strung Out, Jason Cruz and Howl)

Very excited that I got to sit down and chat for a bit with the vocalist/lyricist of my favorite band of all time, Strung Out.

I preface this at the beginning of the episode, but this was particularly nerve racking for me and not an easy interview for me to do. I managed to get through it, albiet some awkwardness. Still, the end result was a cool, interesting chat that was also very funny.

I've been seeing Strung Out shows consistantly for many years and it is always a cathartic experience for me. Thank you so much, Jason, and to the rest of Strung Out and their crew for always being so damn cool to me. I appreciate it more than you guys will ever know.

Music-wise, I kept this Strung Out related, two songs from the band and two from SO side projects; Jason Cruz and Howl (Jason's other band), and Implants (SO guitarist Rob Ramos' other band).

The band's newest release, Transmission.Alpha.Delta, was released on March 24th on Fat Wreck Chords.

Episode #25 w/ Jake Woodruff (Defeater, Dreamtigers)

Very psyched that I got to sit down and chat with Jake about his bands. We talked about his move from Boston, MA to Austin, TX, Defeater going on tour for the first time since vocalist Derek Archembault's hip replacement surgery, Dreamtigers' crossover with Defeater fans and more.

    Episode #24 w/ Dan Brennan of Ensign/NateFest

    Episode #24 w/ Dan Brennan of Ensign/NateFest

Recently, Nate Gluck, bassist of New Jersey hardcore stalwarts Ensign has been diagnosed with cancer. So the band and a few friends have come together and booked an incredible 2-day benefit show for him.

The show has been dubbed NateFest and info can be found at that link. It will be on Saturday, March 21st, 2015 and Sunday, March 22nd, both at Gamechanger World in Howell, NJ.

Both dates are currently sold out but keep checking the above link/Facebook page for anyone who may be selling tickets.

The interview in this episode was with Ensign guitarist Dan Brennan, one of NateFest's organizers, and we talked about both the organization process of the show as well as the separate crowd-fund fundraiser that was started, that to date has raised over $100,000 to go towards medical costs, as well as to help Nate and his wife pay their home's mortgage payments while he undergoes treatment.

Thank you Dan for talking with me! Please, if you were not able to get a ticket for the fest, feel free to donate to the GoFundMe link above if you wish to help.

Generic Insight wishes Nate a healthy and speedy recovery! PMA!

    Episode #23 - Everything Ever

The last (and late) interview I did at Fest 13, this one is with my hotel roomies, Staten Island, NY pop punk band Everything Ever. I chatted with dNo and Zack about the Fest of course, as well as being vegan while on the road, how to get free food for bands, and we trailed off into a very interesting conversation involving feminism/dudes being feminist allies.

    Episode #22 w/ Cayetana

Listen to Cayetana. I had a fantastic chat with these Philadelphia, PA ladies about non-ironically being fans of ska music, drummer Kelly's cat sneakers, chili doughnuts, women in the punk scene in 2014 and some actual stuff related to their band.

Also in this episode, Christmas themed music just because.
