For some of us, going a little crazy is just the time when life starts getting fun.

Madness? Mania? Fanaticism? Call it what you like.

I call it passion, and I am drawn to people who need to create something out of their mad love. The creation might seem crazy to the average person, but to those it speaks to, it is a beautiful gift.

My guest is Jay Michaels, independent stage and film producer, director, and actor, who is also the host and executive producer of Phoenix FearCon, Arizona's Largest Independent Horror Film Festival and Convention Since 2006.

Just when you thought all the celebration is over, H4H finds one last present hidden under the sofa!

The Annual (although late) Christmas Ghost Story!

Actually, it's more like it got kicked under the sofa by the amazing amount of chaos that this past year brought. 

This year we are offering you William Hope Hodgson's THE DERELICT to chill your bones! It's a creepy story about the unknown dangers of the open sea and I think you'll realize how this story might have influenced the works of H.P. Lovecraft!

This was recorded in December of 2020 but was unfortunately delayed over technical issues. We are happy to present it in its entirety.

Halloween is a state of mind.

We survived the weirdness of Halloween 2020 and now we're in the final stretches of the Year the Wouldn't Die.

I think we all deserve a little more Halloween this year, so H4H is doing a Horror Double Feature with two podcasts of extended conversations with horror enthusiasts and creators!

Part One is a fly-on-the-wall conversation between Jon Kitley (Kitley's Krypt, Discover the Horror: One Man's 50-Year Quest for Monsters, Maniacs, and the Meaning of it All), Bryan Martinez (Film Deviant, The Giallo Room), and S.A. Bradley. 

What started out as a Facebook Live conversation took on a life of its own as we delve into what movies still scare us, opinions on horror and popular culture, and real-life horror (and how we deal with it). This is as close to a late-night talk after the convention closes as you can get.

2020 is the 100-year anniversary of 'The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari', the German Expressionism film that created the visual and thematic template for the modern horror movie.

And I think it is very fitting that three films up for Best Picture at the Academy Awards this year were horror films in disguise.

Welcome to Part Two of my post-mortem on 2010-2019, the Decade of Dread!

Was 2010 to 2019 an embarrassment of riches, or just an embarrassment?

The honest answer is…BOTH.

This is my deep dive into "the State of Horror" as we move towards a new decade and brace ourselves as we walk into the maelstrom that is 2020.

In Part Two, I investigate the dark side of the geek and horror culture throughout the decade.

This episode is a critical look at some of the trends that weren’t so hot, some trends and innovations that started with so much promise but, sadly, went south in the execution.

I look at how we as horror fans and horror creators handled ourselves during a decade of extreme changes and social upheaval.

I closed out Part One with a list of my favorite horror films from 2010-2015, and I’ll close out Part Two with the list of my favorite horror movies from the years 2016-2019 and discuss what movie I feel defined the decade. It’s bound to be controversial!

It's a month into 2020 and the "terrible teens" are due for a post-mortem! There were huge changes in the world of entertainment in the years 2010 to 2019 and the horror genre was right in the middle of it all.

The advent of streaming services and the popularizing of "binge-watching" changed the way we watched horror and the amount of new and old films and television shows were available to us.

This was also a period where there was a huge variety of subgenres to choose from and it was a time where diverse storytellers shared their visions of the world and mavericks pushed the envelope of what makes a horror film a horror film.

 So, was 2010 to 2019 an embarrassment of riches, or just an embarrassment? Were the advances in technology good or bad for the horror genre? Were we a "Haunted House Divided" over all the changes?

Join me as I take a 2-part deep dive into "the State of Horror" as we move towards a new decade. I look at the good trends and the bad ones and give my opinion of who was the most influential filmmaker in horror from 2010-2019, and what movie I feel defined the decade. It's bound to be controversial! 

At the end of Part One, I'll also give a list of my favorite horror movies from the years 2010-2015. I'll give the rest at the end of Part Two.

Hello, my friends!

Happy Holidays!

I hope you got what you wanted for Christmas and Hanukkah!

And...here's one last present that I was hiding behind the sofa!

Last year I did a traditional Christmas ghost story reading. This is a tradition that harkens back to Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and has been kept alive by the BBC throughout the decades.

I’ve decided I want to make this an annual event.

So, what I want to do this Christmas season is to tell a few short tales to chill you while you sit with just one flickering candle and a hot toddy or hot chocolate or a sugar-free energy drink. Whatever your poison, I hope these stories please you enough that maybe you can keep the tradition of the Christmas ghost story going with your own family.

And on Friday, September 13th, legendary Independent Horror Auteur Larry Fessenden releases Depraved, his newest vision of the Frankenstein story.

Since 1985, Larry Fessenden has been creating his own fiercely independent, critically-acclaimed horror films (No Telling, Habit, Wendigo, The Last Winter, and Beneath)through the film studio he created, Glass Eye Pix.

Horror is an emotion first and a setting later. It's the only genre that is directly named after an emotion, and that gives horror a universal appeal. It also makes each person's experience and interpretation personal.

We close out June, Pride Month, with a celebration of the contributions the LGBTQ community has brought to the horror genre since the creation of the Gothic novel.

My guest is Waylon Jordan, the Associate Editor for iHorror.com, one of the largest online horror resources in the world. Waylon writes Horror Pride Month, a series of articles that chronicle the history and the present of queer horror and he graciously comes onto the show to expand on the discussion.
