Bobbie thought God was leading her to receive time away at the Restorable Retreat so she could "work" on resting and self care stuff, but He had so much more for her! 

She left the Restorable retreat thinking that an 8 week break would do the trick, but was suprised to find out that God was actually calling her to a whole year of stopping EVERYTHING!

When I met Jasmine I saw so much light and life in her eyes, so I was a bit surprised to learn of her storied past.  

Before Jasmine discovered love from the God of all Hope, she spent nearly 20 years running from herself.  Her running didn't satisfy, and unfortunately, this path only led her to collide head-on with darkness, depression, and eventually mental hospitals when she was 33 years old.

Now, 6 years later, in Jasmine's place of hope and life, she can look back and see how God used that dark valley to help her, literally, reach out her hand towards hope.  

Hope is a powerful tool.. and we hope that Jasmine's story reminds you that NO ONE IS TOO FAR GONE.. THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE!

The women at the retreat privately named their valley. We called it their “It”.

“IT”... “It” was the thing that knocks them over, makes them angry, or brings tears to their eyes. “It” is the thing that can somehow have more power over our day and our choices.

They were honest with themselves and with God while they sat safely on the couches and in their bedrooms at the retreat.

Most of us wished that our hard thing wouldn’t even be real. We wanted it to go away, or if that couldn’t happen, we wanted to HURRY UP and get OVER it!

BUT, when we looked at Psalm 23, we saw that the Shepherd didn’t snatch the sheep out of the valley. He didn’t even rush them along by making them run night and day until they “passed through it”. Rather, we noticed how the Shepherd encouraged the sheep to lie down in the very thick of it. (and I think… “no thank you, lets just keep moving and get past all of this darkness!)

It was 17 years until my father-in-law got his treasured old Ford coupe on the road.

At times, he wondered, would this restoration project ever be done?

(And, I've found myself asking the same question about my own soul's restoring.)

Countless hours of sparks flying from the grinding wheel as it took away what was no longer needed, and what could actually cause more harm...

Because, like a cancer that spreads to destroy a body's cells, and like a bitterness that grows to harden a heart... rust could eat away at the steel on his old coupe, if not TENDERLY, YET AGRESSIVELY CARED FOR.

I hope that as you listen in to this story, that you will discover hope that YOU are not too far gone (and neither is he or she).

And when you feel like restoration might never end, I hope that you take heart... because this soul-restoring is a season, and one thing I am learning is that God is a patient restorer.

So, I rise.

I move forward into my day with the memories of His past faithfulness attached to me like a long train flowing freely from a dress.

And like a fresh gust of wind lifts the flowing train, memories of His faithfulness lift my spirit.

I am propelled into a new day, a new mercy, and a new hope.

May these words feel like a gift for you today.

It is completely understandable that we often make choices that hinder our emotional recoveries. 

Life can be so hard, but thankfully there are ways that we can come alongside the Restorer to help lift us while on the path towards wholeness.

While taking time to reflect on the Restorable Retreat, I noticed that Dr. Rhonda was a significant treasure that us retreat ladies deeply received from.  

Rhonda offered us a nurturing environment, a delicious and healthy meal, and gentle, practical tools that can help us handle hard seasons in a way that comes alongside of the Restorer and assists us towards emotional healing and wholeness.

Jesus asked a crippled man, "Do you want to get well?".  Other translations say, "Do you want to be made whole?".  Jesus then gave the man simple instructions to walk towards wholeness. 

The Restorer is so kind and He is standing beside you today.  Do you want to get well?  What simple tool is He offering you today to help you be made whole?  Check out the story in John 5.  

Have you ever found yourself dreaming of doing something enjoyable and meaningful, but then held yourself back because of all your shortcomings, failures, brokenness, and excuses?

I have.

But, the Restorable Retreat was a time when I said "yes".  I took all of broken me and plunged into an unknown.... and I am here to tell you that I AM SO GLAD THAT I DID!

In this episode we will meander though a junk yard with eleven other 'broken' people.  You will hear of hearts who know loss and challenge AND sincere hope, even in the midst of all the brokenness.

Episode 9 - Podcast that we listened to right after our junkyard experience.   "What if your hard thing doesn't change"

PICTURES of our hearts while in the JUNKYARD

It would be nice to not fight each season, thinking that I need to adjust to constantly achieve some sort of "correct" balance.

I mean, what if I could just learn to be in the here and now while observing life lessons to receive wisdom for my future various seasons?  After all, maybe neither kind of season is wrong or right... or better... or worse.  They're just different, and maybe we actually need both.

In my recent choice to not fight my season of rest, I have been able to discover treasures from both the hustle seasons and the quiet times.  Since I chose to be in this space of peace and reflection, I get to see and savor deep and beautiful treasures that came from choosing to say "yes" to The Restorable Retreat.  And now, I will begin to share some of these treasures with you all over the next few weeks.  

I hope that you too will receive grace to be able to not fight your various seasons... and I hope that you will be strengthened by the treasures that I am discovering from my recent seasons!

May you allow yourself space to journey with me here and imagine yourself on the Restorable Retreat with us.  My desire is that you too can receive rich and personal encouragment for your restorable heart!!

Ecclesiastes 3 "There is a time for everything"

This podcast was created specifically for the Restorable Retreat.  BUT.. wait... it just MIGHT be for you too.

So, feel free to join us in your imagination.... we just left the very cold junkyard and are now driving back to the warm bed and breakfast.

We identified broken vehicles that kind of remind us of our broken thing... 
We imagined the Mechanic walking through the junkyard.. what did He think of all the broken things?  What would He think of my broken thing?

We explored the idea of hope for that broken thing... after all, God CAN and DOES RESTORE!

BUT... He doesn't always choose to restore the "thing"..

So now, as we drive back, the tone will get a little somber.  The heaviness might creep in as we consider the question, "What if God doesn't restore that thing that I want fixed?  Is He still God?  Is He still worthy of being worshiped?"

He may not fix the thing, because that thing MIGHT be used to restore MY SOUL!

Psalm 23 "He restores MY SOUL"

In this Restorable project, the "lemon" represents the person with the spot in their heart that they have tried to fix.  They have tried to improve, tried to overlook, tried and tried to deal with their issue, weakness or fault, only to feel that they have hit a wall... again. 

The "lemon" is often left feeling tired, maybe even tired of having hope for that difficult spot.

Do you know someone who might feel like a "lemon"?  Do you have shortcomings inside of you that you just can't seem to overcome?

"Well, they will just never change, he is just too far gone"...

You don't want to admit it... but these words have come to your mind about someone that you struggle to believe is restorable.

It's not always easy to have hope for everyone.   To believe that they can someday be trusted.

Sometimes, it even hurts to choose to have hope for another.... it feels risky.. too risky.

Who is it that you don't believe can change?

Why does it scare you to believe that they too are restorable?

Will you journey with me once again through the junkyard?  Will you consider hope for the person or people group that you sometimes think will never change?
