    Robin says:

    • Giving credit to those that came before us is so important. We would'nt be who we are today without the work of those who came before us.
    • Robin predicted the "train wreck" of social media 20 years ago. "When young people don't see the "eyes" of those they are hurting, this will be extremely damaging to society".
    • It's about taking on a huge challenge with https://www.maplebear.ca in our 60s and building a global brand without anyone really knowing us and ploughing money from the success of it into the new venture of Finca Cantaros....

    ***********************************************************

Today we will talk about "The IMPACTs of War".

    *************************************************************

    Background:

First, Dan and Chip met on an exploratory mission to Ukraine in September, 2022. Their team was organized by PASS - a company based in Alexandria, Virginia in conjunction with THE CARPATHIAN FOUNDATION from Hungary.

Their first trip focused on refugees and IDPs (Internally displaced people) and those who struggle with disabilities.

Ukraine has a population of about 44 million people and roughly 14 million have been displaced, and about half of those were refugees at the time of their first visit (refugees are those who leave the country vs. those are are internally displaced).  They visited refugee centers in Hungary, Budapest and Moldova and visited IDPs in Vinnytzia, Ukraine.  Many of the IDPs were disabled prior to the war and several had settled at a rehabilitation center in Vinnytzia called OPEN HEARTS.

Their second journey was in May of this year and they entered Ukraine through Poland.  This recent visit included Lviv, Chernihiv, Zhodamyr, and Kviv area with an emphasis on relationship building with community leaders, assisting in medical distribution and medical collaborations with US-based doctors, and documenting war crimes.  They also revisited OPEN HEARTS initiative.

If you want to help Chip and Dan's initiative to help Special Needs refugees fleeing the war zone. Their web site is  https://hopeacrossborders.org/

All donations are funneled through the US Ukraine Foundation a 501c3 and go directly to projects that help displaced Special Needs Ukrainians.

    IMPACT Special Supplement

Did you know that dementia begins developing 20–30 years before any symptoms emerge ... with negative changes beginning in the brain in our 40s and 50s? At age 41, Cat learned that her genotype gives her a 92% chance of developing Alzheimer’s. With the threat of early onset Alzheimer’s looming, Cat made a series of changes that led her neurologist to ask (after her bloodwork came back): “I’ve never seen an improvement like this. Did you steal someone’s blood??!” Learn how she made her changes stick, how her new lifestyle has led to more entrepreneurial creativity ... and what you can do to have the healthiest brain now and for decades to come!

It’s a No Brainer: Protect Your Business by Protecting Your Most Valuable Asset.

A few years ago, Cat Hoke became passionate about brain health and preventing cognitive decline (especially Alzheimer’s). She give this extremely informative talk to share her personal journey after her doctor told her that, “Your lifestyle is burning your brain out!” She has since made remarkable reversals in her cognitive decline, and despite her current physical limitations, her brain remains sharp.  Cat is a previous guest on IMPACT and we felt that her story is so compelling that we needed to share it without our IMPACT audience.  So with Cat’s permission please enjoy,  make notes and change your brain hearth.

    It’s a No-Brainer

Part I: Assessing Your Brain Health

Disclaimer! Cat is not a doctor or medical expert. This content is for informational purposes only. It is general in nature and is not intended to be medical advice. Consult your own healthcare provider for a proper diagnosis and to ensure this content and any recommended products are safe and appropriate for your own medical and physical condition.

Cat’s hope is that you’ll look into resources and go see your doctor if you feel compelled to do so. There is a prevalent myth that there’s nothing you can do about Alzheimer’s, and this simply isn’t true.

    Part II: Dementia and Alzheimer’s

    Dementia

    • Dementia is not a specific disease. It's an overall term that describes a group of symptoms including memory loss and loss of cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life.
    • Alzheimer’s disease is a degenerative brain disease and the most common form of dementia, accounting for 60-80% of dementia cases.

Part III: Protecting and Nourishing Your Brain

What to Eat and What to Avoid (listen here to learn what to eat and what not).

    Part IV: Making Changes Stick

Key Focus: Working to eliminate 10 Billion pounds of waste from the global waste stream while continuing to research and develop the most innovative products to create a waste- free future

Jeremy believes creating businesses as a force of good to leave the world better than we found it. While climbing society’s corporate ladder as an environmental consultant he felt the urge to live his own dreams so he started Open Mind Developments Corporation in 2007 to look at problems with an open mind for a different view, and solve them.

Seeing plastic litter on a beach inspired Jeremy to create the world’s first compostable phone case and Pela in 2011, to help solve the plastic waste problem. Pela recently created Lomi, a Smart Waste Appliance to help solve the food waste and plastic problem and is now creating a waste innovation category with a goal of eliminating 10 billions pounds of waste on their mission to create a waste free future.

Jeremy’s experience with self awareness, personal growth, going from zero to 1, going from employee to entrepreneur, the power of trust and a team, and the emotional side of business on his journey helps provide a guide for those who are ready to take action on their dreams, create their own personal legend and make the world a better place to be.

    IMPACT Podcast - Electric Americas

    IMPACT Podcast - Electric Americas
Our guests today are a team of eco-adventurers currently producing a Docu-Series based on a massive road trip from Alaska to Patagonia using Electric Cars, they will be visiting and interviewing some extraordinary organizations that are creating solutions for a sustainable future.  Please welcome Martin, Oli and Tuti of Electric Americas!
Martin, an extreme sports enthusiast who has been living in San Francisco, decided to return to Uruguay with his family without using fossil fuels. He recruited two of his life-long friends, Oliver and Maria (Tuti), to partake in this adventure while raising awareness of climate change. Martin and Oliver met through their love of extreme sports, and Tuti and Oliver connected by working together in photography and video production.
Together with Martin’s wife and newborn son, the team is crossing the Americas in an electric car, driving 20,000 miles in six months and through twelve countries. They will work with local governments, organizations, and schools to engage people in the climate change discussion and promote sustainability initiatives. They will also incorporate their passion for extreme sports to encourage people to reconnect with nature.

Today we chat with Carlo about The Great Bear Sea, also referred to as the Northern Shelf Bioregion, is found off the north and central coasts of BC next to the famous Great Bear Rainforest.

Carlo (he/him) developed an awe of the natural world by flipping through the pages of National Geographic magazines. Pursuing this interest, education and wildlife field work took him to Australia’s Bass Strait, Utqiaġvik in the Arctic Circle, Mexico’s Selva Maya and points in between. Closer to home, he worked with local organizations conducting nature education and outreach. Always drawn to the ocean, he returns to Vancouver after studying seabirds on Pacific coast marine protected areas. Using his experience with research and science communication, he supports marine conservation as the Ocean Conservation Campaigner for CPAWS-BC.

Carlo was raised in Burnaby, British Columbia, on ancestral, and unceded territory of the hən̓ q̓ əmin̓ əm̓ (Halq’eméylem) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) speaking peoples.

The Great Bear Sea, also referred to as the Northern Shelf Bioregion, is found off the north and central coasts of BC next to the famous Great Bear Rainforest. Learn about the incredible and unique marine life that lives here. Hear about how coastal First Nations are leading the process with the Canadian and BC governments to create a marine protected area (MPAs) network for the region. Thanks to people like you advocating for strong ocean protection, we have a plan to build on the existing three MPAs here to create a whole network of protected areas to further support important habitats. These connected MPAs increase the resilience to impacts and protect the health of the Great Bear Sea for present and future generations.
