The WRWC is proud for the 2nd anniversary of the Pam Minick Lifetime Achievement Award to be presented to a woman in the industry at the WRWC event finals this year!

Who wants to rope at the Million Dollar Breakaway by Kimes Ranch? Every breakaway roper around the world… 

This amazing opportunity for Women and the sport of breakaway roping is HUGE! Not only will there be a huge payout through the qualifying ropings along the way, on top of that, 25 girls will get to compete for the million dollar purse payout in Scottsdale, Arizona over Thanksgiving weekend this year! “We know there has been a huge push to have the breakaway ropers on the big stage, roping for equal money under the bright lights. I believe that is still the ultimate goal for everyone, but until that happens, we at Kimes Ranch wanted to create an event that would provide the excitement, the recognition, and the purse that these breakaway athletes deserve,” says Amanda Kimes, Vice President of Kimes Ranch.

The Kimes Ranch Million $ Breakaway is an open event for all female Breakaway Ropers with no membership required to enter. Kimes Ranch Million $ Breakaway will consist of the top 10 Breakaway Ropers in the World Standings plus 15 Qualifiers to compete at the 10 round finals held November 28th-30th in Scottsdale, AZ.

The first qualifying rounds (total of 3) with no limits will be held in conjunction with Oklahoma’s Richest October 18th-20th at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK. We will advance the top 20 from each go round and the top 20 from the aggregate for a total of 80 ladies advancing to the Semi-Finals in Scottsdale, AZ on November 28th.

There will be a last chance qualifier held in Scottsdale, AZ on November 27th with a limit of 250 entries. We will advance the top 10 in each go round and the top 10 in the aggregate for a total of 40 ladies advancing to the Semi-Finals on November 28th. Following the Last Chance Qualifier, there will be a Buy Back Round advancing an additional 5 qualifiers to the Semi-Finals on November 28th.

The Kimes Ranch Million $ Breakaway Semi-Finals will consist of 80 qualifiers from the Oklahoma Qualifier, 40 qualifiers from the Last Chance Qualifier, 5 qualifiers from 11th position through 15th in the World Standings, and 5 qualifiers from the Buy Back Round, equaling 130 total Semi-Finalists. From the Semi-Finals, the Top 3 in each of the three Semi-Finals go rounds and the Top 6 from the Semi-Finals aggregate will compete alongside the Top 10 in the World Standings for a total of 25 contestants advancing to the Kimes Ranch Million $ Breakaway.

The RODEOHOUSTON is one of the biggest professional rodeos that the professional cowboy and cowgirls will compete at all year long! With the winning purse paying $50,000 this is no small rodeo! We sit down with Katelyn Scates, who is the Director, Sports and Event Presentations, to discuss all elements of Rodeo Houston! From the 35,000 volunteers to all of the different events, there is literally nothing that Rodeo Houston does not offer! Rodeo Houston was one of the first big Texas Swing Rodeos to give the professional breakaway ropers a chance to compete at the $50,000 purse, and it is one that many look forward to roping at each and every year! 

The RODEOHOUSTON Super Series is a 20-day tournament-style competition that crowns an event champion in bareback riding, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, team roping, and women’s barrel racing and breakaway roping.  With a total payout of $2,178,000, each champion is awarded $50,000, plus previous round winnings, a custom-made saddle and belt buckle, and an invitation to compete at RODEOHOUSTON the following year.

The Bell Mare Book Co. is an amazing resource for children growing up and dreaming about wanting to be cowboys and cowgirls. They are truly providing educational material, picture books, color books, games, and now chapter books, for the kiddos in our western industry! Not only do they have children’s books but they also have a free monthly Cowkids Only Blog, and provides insight that can be applied to a young child learning the western way of life! 

Writing a book that a young boy wants to read is a big challenge, but not one that Lindsay Keller couldn’t handle. Her young son Trig did not want to read what they had in the library, so she set out to write something that he would be interested in, and that led her to creating her first book, Short Go and the Junior Rodeo Trail! Lindsay and her mother, Marilyn set out to create and illustrate a book for her son to read, and to learn about the western way of life!

Latricia Duke had a dream of putting together a roping futurity and through her knowledge and experience in the barrel racing horse industry, she wanted to highlight the amazing horses in the roping industry, and that became what we know now as Roping Futurities of America. This year Latricia teamed up with NFR Qualifier and Legendary Calf Roper Brent Lewis as a partner, to put together a new set of roping calves, and bring some fresh changes to the event! 

The 2024 RFA has a NEW HOME, and this event will be held on March 27-30 in Waco, Texas at the Extraco Events Center! This event not only highlights the elite roping horses, but also the trainers, riders, owners, and every part of the process that goes into making a great roping horse! “I wanted to highlight everyone involved, and it is my dream to see these great roping horses, trainers, riders, and owners, get recognized for their talents,” says Duke. We want to create life before and after rodeo for the cowboys and horses, so that whatever phase you are in your career, beginning, middle, or winding down and staying closer to home that there is an avenue for the great cowboys and cowgirls in the industry to continue to showcase their talents and great horses. We want to see these horses that come through the RFA go to the NFR, and that is what our end goal is! 

Roping Futurities of America was founded on the principle to ensure the prosperous future of rope horse trainers, owners and competitors; as well as promoting breeding of the next generation of rope horses.

Our inaugural event was hosted February 1-5, 2022 at Taylor Telecom Arena in Abilene, Texas. After its resounding success, paying out over $800,000, the second annual Roping Futurity Of America was quickly set in motion.

RFA comprises 3 main events - ladies breakaway roping, tie-down roping and team roping. Our event features the first ever Slot Futurity Ropings; including the 4-year-old futurity for breakaway, tie-down roping and heading & heeling horses, as well as a futurity and derby team roping.

San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo is a volunteer organization that emphasizes agriculture and education to develop the youth of texas! From Cody Tharp’s perspective, the Official 2024 Rodeo Officer, San Antonio is thriving and ready for their 75th anniversary of rodeo! “We have over 6,000 volunteers, and only 35 paid employees, so we really appreciate all of the boots on the ground here at San Antonio!” 

San Antonio is one of the Texas Swing Rodeos in 2024 and has been a supporter of breakaway roping for several years! Fellow bareback rider and co-founder of the Trenten Montero Foundation, Mason Clements joins Leighton to reminisce about the legacy of Trenten and talk about the mission of the Trenten Montero Foundation. •   Trenten Montero Foundation is a foundation that was set up to benefit rodeo families that have been faced with career threatening or ending injuries, and has left the families without a form of income or a paycheck to feed their families. Through rodeo we all make so many sacrifices as well as our families, and this foundation was created from the loss of the life of Trenten Montero. He was a young husband to Maria, and father to newly born Noah, and with the tragic loss of his life from a rodeo accident, they were left to support themselves. The foundation wants to provide these families, as well as cowboys/cowgirls who have or will experience injuries in this industry to have financial support if or when it comes to those terms anytime in their rodeo careers. 
• Leighton chose this charity foundation because he was a good friend of Trentens’ and the rodeo community always bands together through the good and bad times. Leighton wanted to be able to help support, grow, and give all that he could with his resources to help this foundation succeed. It was Leightons pursuit to help get the organization started with so many willing people within the community that were able to help put this foundation together and get it on the road to leaving a legacy behind from the tragedy of Trenten’s accident, to provide triumphs and a future for others in the sport of rodeo. 
• Mason Clements, fellow bareback riding professional rodeo cowboy, is also a huge part of the Trenten Montero Foundation, and is doing all that he can to grow and support this foundation. Trenten always had a smile on his face, and his perspective in and out of the arena was something that impacted us all, says Mason, and for that I want to do my part in helping to leave a legacy behind for Trenten’s Family, and the Foundation!

On Riverton Road is a vivid depiction of a modern-day bull riding champion. Over a three-day period, beginning at a bull riding event in Blackfoot, Idaho, just a scenic drive from Yellowstone National Park, and ending at a rodeo in Prescott, Arizona, Dean Stamper comes out of retirement to ride the greatest bucking bull of all time in an epic showdown. Before he faces the Great Bushwacker, he is forced to face his past,

including the overwhelming guilt from his brother's death and his mother's abrupt abandonment.

Like most cowboys unafraid to die, Dean lives each day as if it is his last. His journey back to the arena is filled with religious notions and cowboy wisdom fueled by the indelible connection between genuine human experiences and life's beauty and pain. On Riverton Road is an engulfing read that showcases how one's life experiences are perceived differently by those who witness them, and how having an experience and creating one can bear different realities. Jesse Elison grew up in Southeastern Idaho. From an early age, he had a passion for reading and a desire to write books. He studied English and Philosophy at Brigham Young University, where he was inspired by the stories of great writers like Edgar Allan Poe, Henry James, and Willa Cather. His interest in world literature and religions took him to Harvard Divinity School. Then he obtained a law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law.

Cali Griffin, the coach at Fort Scott Community College, is not only passionate about breakaway roping but she is also passionate about her students, and growing the sport of breakaway roping in and out of the arena.

Cali is so passionate about her students, and helping them to advance in and out of the arena that she put together the project of “Ask your idol.” This project was a survey of questions that were sent and answered by several of the top professional breakaway ropers in the world today! “ What I loved the most about this survey was how these ladies answered, and it goes to show you that there is no perfect science to being the best, and everyone has found their success differently.”

The questions asked were from the Fort Scott Community College Ladies Rodeo Team, and answered by the Professional Breakaway Ropers! This is one of the most insightful episodes that we have done yet, and I cannot wait to share it with you!
