Best of - Teens NEED Our Stories

Best of - Teens NEED Our Stories

In this Best Of episode, I'm talking about sharing our stories with our teens. This is something I feel SO strongly about - STORIES SAVE LIVES! Whether they're stories from books, movies, song lyrics, or even our own, the stories we internalize as teens are life-shaping. Sharing your own life stories is a  powerful way to influence and connect with your teens.

Best of - Want to Be an Intentional Parent? Here’s What You Need to Know

This is the second half of an interview I did with Tami Schow during the first season of the podcast. In it, we're talking about a topic I'm asked about frequently: developmental appropriateness in teens. Learning this concept from Tami completely shifted my parenting paradigm - I hope it rocks your world too!

Best of: 8 Ways to Break a Negative Cycle with Your Teens

This episode was the most popular one I aired during my first season of podcasting. And it’s no wonder! Who of us hasn’t felt trapped in a cycle of negativity and tension with our teens? This was a great reminder for me, too – when it comes to my teens, it’s up to me to set the tone and energy. Enjoy!

Best Of: Ready for Middle School? Letting Them Fail

Best Of: Ready for Middle School? Letting Them Fail

One of the best things you can teach your kids is how to learn from their mistakes and failures. (And I'd argue that there's no such thing as a failure - there are only lessons!)

This episode was one of the most popular of 2020, and for good reason - it's so important to learn how to let our kids fail so that they become stronger and more resilient.

Middle school is the perfect time to do exactly that - step back and let your child fall. You'll be there to patch up their skinned knees, but they'll learn to stand on their own, take responsibility for what's theirs, and find the lesson in the journey.

Best Of: Open-Ended Questions are Magical - How to Ditch Lecturing Your Teens

In 2020, we published a popular episode about one of my favorite things to talk about – great questions.

If you want to create meaningful connection, you’ll want to master the skill of asking your teens open-ended, non-judgmental, thought-provoking questions.

In this episode, I share why asking this type of question is important and how to practice this win-win skill.
