Dr Renee Cachia is not only deeply knowledgeable in her field of child psychology but is such a genuine and lovely woman as well.     We talk about honouring and cultivating honest and genuine relationships with our children as autonomous human beings who have their own essence. We are modelling and teaching them as parents through guidance and our behaviour rather than projecting our values on to them. 

    Renee talks about how one of the most important outcomes is that our children become resilient to forge their own identity in this world.

    We cover some practical ways that you can set boundaries around challenging and inappropriate behaviours. Through setting limits with your children you are nurturing your child and allowing them to feel safe and secure in the family home. Renee gives examples of how you can create a non-judgemental space that removes shame from consequence. There is always a way that we can turn these moments into connective, intimate moments that can bring great lessons.

    Renee then dives deeper into how we can think about emotional literacy and help children and teenagers tune in to this to identify what is happening in their nervous system. By doing so, we can then explore and connect with the body and mind.

    Taking 'Perfectionism' out of Parenting | Connected Family Living through Mindfulness

    In today’s episode we wanted to take the perfectionism out of the term ‘mindful parenting’ to help you incorporate mindful practices into your family living. This conversation covers parenting mindfully through self reflection and simple practices and changes in perspective. We talk about how your parenting style doesn’t have to be 100% all the time. You’re allowed to be normal, human and real. We hope this helps you reflect on your connections within your family and bringing a sense of safety and belonging to our children.

    Our takeaway points from this episode that you might like to think about:

    • Drop into your sensory experience: In moments where we have lost our temper, ask yourself “What’s happening for me right now?”
    • Having awareness of our own emotions to honour that in those around us.
    • Using language that honours what is happening - “I can sense, I can see, I can notice” to hold boundaries in sharing when feels right.
    • Creating dedicated time with your partner for check ins and conversations.
    • Enabling your children to have an emotional vocabulary. Using the ‘wheel of emotions’.
    • Notice how emotions show up physically in our body to allow sensory connection and appropriate responses.
    • Let mindfulness for kids be fun and playful.

    We chat about Bronte's journey in marketing and PR and her interest in social media that led her to where she is today.  Bronte tells us about her inspiration to start Shire Scout, during the pandemic and how businesses had to pivot quickly during that time.

We talk about how Bronte prioritizes her wellness, which includes going to the gym, spending time with her animals, and getting outside. We also cover how this practice helps her run a successful business by giving her energy and mental clarity throughout the day. Bronte shares that her Mum always owned her own businesses, and her Dad worked hard in a nine to five job, both of which inspired her to start her own business.

    Some take away tips from Bronte if you're just starting out on your business journey:
    1. Get clear on your branding and vision for your business.
    2. How does your brand feel, what does it looks like, and how you can  that integrate across all platforms?
    3. Content creation is essential, especially on social media!
    4. Nothing comes easily, put in the hard work.
    5. Don't forget to prioritise switching off (like leaving your phone at home) to make sure your looking after your energy and wellness.

    Sammy - Book: The Myth of Normal by Gabor Maté. Trauma, illness and healing in a toxic culture.

    We also talk about how reading does not have to be for hours, you might like to just read 2 or 5 pages a day. Maybe 10 minutes a day. If reading is feeling overwhelming for you, start small!

    Elise - Health Hack: Dry Body Brushing. The idea is that the brush fibres remove dead skin and improve the skin's ability to eliminate toxins through the pores.

    With any health practice, we always recommend realistic options. You might not have HEAPS of time but you don't need it! Just 1 - 2 minutes a day before you jump in the shower will bring you so many health benefits.

    In this weeks episode, Elise and Sammy have the pleasure of interviewing Emma Lagerlow about financial wellness. Emma shares her definition of financial wellness, which is primarily around awareness and empowerment. She explains that understanding our money mindset is crucial and that it is formed when we are very young,  influenced by our parents and potentially creating limiting beliefs. Through awareness, we can challenge any limiting beliefs or blocks that we might have around money.

    Emma emphasized the importance of empowerment, which means being aware of our current financial situation and having the freedom to make choices about our lives. While many of us may not be financially free, we can still make choices about how we live our lives aligned in financial wellness.

    Emma encourages people to look at their thoughts and beliefs about money and realize that they might not be serving them or may not be true. By shining a light on these beliefs, we can change them and choose a different, more empowering belief about money.

    Sammy and Eilse chat to Emma's about using journaling as a tool to help uncover our patterns and beliefs around money. Emma also encourages using positive affirmations to reprogram our thoughts and beliefs about money.

    We have so much goodness to bring you! This week we are sharing what you can expect from the podcast, the subjects and the topics that we're going to go into, and how it's all going to work.

    Every Wednesday morning at 5am you can come to your fave podcast app and find a new episode from us! So, no matter what you're doing, if you're a super early morning, person who goes to the gym, who goes for a walk, if you're travelling to work early in your car, on the bus on the train, you can pop us in your ears to be inspired for that day ahead.

    We're going to have a rolling four weekly cycle each month of different style episodes.
    1 - A conversation between Elise and Sammy around themes that are coming up in our lives that we're going to explore a little bit more and go a little bit deeper with. You might resonate with what we're going through and maybe feel less alone on your journey.
    2 - A guest who has created a life for themself based off of a genuine feeling in their heart to help other people. How do they share their daily inspiration through what it is that they're offering the world. Sharing their nuggets of wisdom to inspire you!
