DAVID RICHARDS of LOCH MHOR: A songwriter, performer, and visual artist who does it all with a lot of heart

As an artist, David Richards has his bases covered. Musically, he writes, records, and releases his songs under the name of Loch Mhor (that's Scottish for great lake) and performs in an acoustic trio called Gil Sans. Visually, he is the founder and owner of BRING Studios, a graphics agency that specializes in video, web, and design. David takes his creativeness seriously, but he approaches life with a good amount of humor and warmth. Those elements are present in his creations and it makes David an artist that truly rises above the rest. On this show hear him discuss his music, visual art, and even perform a Loch Mhor song exclusively for Into The Music!

THE REZZONATORS: The sum of their parts makes them so much more than a rock & roll band

THE REZZONATORS: The sum of their parts makes them so much more than a rock & roll band

The Rezzonators are a band out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin who at first glance you might think is simply your basic rock & roll band, but that's where you'd be wrong. All you have to do is give a listen to their album Dream River & Other Tales of Adventure to get the bigger picture. Each member of the band brings something unique to the mix and makes them much more than what you might expect. Yes, they can rock out and when they do, you wanna crank it. But as you listen, the depth of their skills and talents is revealed in both songwriting and performance and you'll find yourself going back for listen after listen. The Rezzonators are a breath of fresh air in the Wisconsin music scene.

ERIC HAGEN is a soulful country artist whose songs are brilliantly "challenging and beautiful"

Eric Hagen is more than a country artist. He writes and records songs that are country on the surface, but underneath there's a whole lot of soul. The musics of the south—country, soul, gospel, blues—tend to blend with each other very well and Eric has tapped into that. On top of the soulful foundation he lays, the lyrics of his songs are stories and well worth a good listen. He takes a less-is-more approach to recording so his listeners don't just hear whatever he can pack into his songs but rather listen to the stories put to music that is emotionally stirring. A review by Americana UK once said his music is "emotionally challenging and beautiful," a statement that couldn't be any more true. It's time to get acquainted with the challenging and beautiful music of Eric Hagen.

MATTY DAY releases an album that is as eclectic as his long career

MATTY DAY releases an album that is as eclectic as his long career

Matty Day is an artist that can't be pigeonholed into any genre. The proof of this is his new album, Meta Dada, which one could say is a reflection of his career to date. This album zig zags from genre to genre and subgenre to subgenre, sometimes in the course of a single song. One thing this album is not is boring. Meta Dada is full of outstanding performances by Matty and the twenty some odd musicians he has playing on it. Underlying the entire project is some very smart humor to keep you on your toes. And if you didn't think Meta Dada was enough, we also talk about Wayne Newton.

"In Our Coldest Time," "Ode to Jove," "Sunburn," "Lady Circadia," and "Untrue & Not Enough" written and performed by Matty Day
℗ 2023 Matty Day. Used with permission of Matty Day.

Nick Gonnering and Brent Felchlin, a.k.a. The Nick Gonnering Duo, are two of the most creative and proficient musicians in the northeast Wisconsin music scene. Their brand of bluegrass is like no other. They incorporate subtle hints blues, jazz, rock, r&b, and funk to bring some new textures you thought you'd never hear in bluegrass. Their performances are brilliant and energetic and until you experience one live, you'll never know just how big an acoustic guitar, a mandolin, and a voice can sound. INTO THE MUSIC: It's the "Operator Error Show!" My goof is your gain with great local music!

This episode will go down in Into The Music history as the operator error show. Was an interview planned and executed? Yes. Did the interview get recorded? No. Why? Operator error. So in place of what would've been a fantastic interview (which, by the way, will be graciously and carefully re-recorded), Into The Music gives you six great songs by six great northeast Wisconsin artists plus the announcement of the WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) Award nomination the show received and plans for growing Into The Music, but we need your help. Heck, just enjoy the show!

CHAMPIAN FULTON: A life of jazz with a style that's distinct and sophisticated

Champian Fulton is simply one of the finest jazz pianists and vocalists around today. Her love of jazz goes as far back as she can remember and the happiness it brings her bubbles over to her fans and audiences. She has performed with some of the genre's greats like drummer Louis Hayes, vocalist Joe Williams, and trumpet player Clark Terry. Champian isn't solely a jazz artist, she's a devotee of the genre—she calls it being a "jazz nerd"—so she's also a huge fan and one of jazz's greatest advocates and ambassadors. Whether playing piano or singing, her style has been called sophisticated and distinct. We just call it extraordinary music made by one fantastic jazzer named Champian Fulton.

Eric W. Krueger has a career in music spanning thirty years and it's one that will be going for decades to come. From his first band, Treehouse, in 1994 to the various bands he's part of today like A-Town Unplugged, Leading The Blind, and Eric W. Krueger and the Sheesh, we're covering it all in this show. ELIOTT JANZ: Taking "Flight" to honor his friend and mentor, Dick Dale

ELIOTT JANZ: Taking "Flight" to honor his friend and mentor, Dick Dale

Eliott Janz had one heck of a mentor. That's because his mentor was the legendary Dick Dale. Dick didn't just teach Eliott his picking method and his music, he taught Eliott about life. MIKE UNDERWOOD: More than a drummer, he's "The Engine" that puts his acts in motion

Mike Underwood has been referred to as "The Engine." Why? There's no quit in this guy when it comes to music. Whether he's performing (that's performing, not just merely playing) on stage, in the studio, exploring his next rhythmic conquest, or even spending valuable time listening to learn, Mike invests himself into what he does not just for himself, but for the people he makes music with and for. He is one of the most entertaining musicians you will ever witness perform (there's that word again!) and he's just a quality guy to be around. Settle in and get to know "The Engine."

MICHAEL "BIG DOG" MURPHY: This seasoned blues vet delivers music with honesty and passion

MICHAEL "BIG DOG" MURPHY: This seasoned blues vet delivers music with honesty and passion

Michael "Big Dog" Murphy has experienced a lot of life. Some good, some bad, but enough to deliver songs that are some of the deepest, most honest gems you'll hear. Michael is old school and when he performs, he doesn't hide his sound behind a lot of gadgetry or gimmicks. What-you-see-is-what-you-get is how Michael lives life and presents his music, so it's no wonder he has the love and respect of the local music community.

NOTE: This episode contains a short discussion regarding substance abuse.

JANET PLANET: A forty-plus year career of pure vocal brilliance!

JANET PLANET: A forty-plus year career of pure vocal brilliance!

Janet Planet is a name synonymous not only with the northeast Wisconsin music scene, but with vocal jazz and voice instruction. Her career has spanned forty-plus years and she shows no sign of slowing down at all. She's headlined concerts all over the world and her catalog of recorded work has earned praise from critics and fans alike. One of her biggest fans was comedian, composer, and jazz musician Steve Allen (yes, that Steve Allen!) who once wrote to her, "There are so many dumb and inarticulate singers in the business today, it’s a pleasure to hear someone who knows what singing is all about." Janet is an incredible vocalist who encourages others to use their voice through her succesful Rethink Sing vocal technique program. No matter if you're a jazzer or simply enjoy smart, outstanding vocal work, we think you'll enjoy this discussion with Janet Planet.
