    Jeffrey Brown - Once Upon A Space-Time

    Jeffrey Brown - Once Upon A Space-Time

Jeffrey Brown conquered the world when he self-published the relationship memoir Clumsy, which earned praise from cartoonists and readers alike, and was eventually picked up by Top Shelf comics. He went on to publish a tall tower of fantastic autobiographical graphic novels, and some very funny books as well.

He has also directed a music video for Death Cab for Cutie. His work has been featured in Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art, and he has taught comics at the School of The Art Institute.

More recently Mr. Brown has added some much appreciated adorableness (that isn’t baby Yoda) to the Star Wars Universe with books like Darth Vader and Son and Vader’s Little Princess, which imagine Vader as the struggling father of precocious children.

And more recently still the Lucy and Andy Neanderthal Books and most recently Once Upon a Space-Time.

Shane Mauss - No Physical Limits

Shane Mauss - No Physical Limits

Stand-up comedian, adventurer, and science enthusiast Shane Mauss has been interviewing scientists each week since 2014. Originally from La Crosse, Wisconsin this former factory worker skipped college to become a comedian. His stand up has been on Comedy Central, Conan, Kimmel, Showtime, and Epix.  In the age of podcasting, more people might be familiar with him as a guest on Trussell, Holmes, Kreischer, Von, Maron, or Rogan. Compelled to talk about bigger ideas, he now travels to universities around the world (when there isn't a pandemic) to interview researchers on a journey to learn what makes us who we are… as well as a bunch of other random stuff you never imagined you would care about. Favorite topics include: psychology, biology, evolution, cognitive biases, behavioral economics, mating, animal behavior, neuroscience, entheogens and consciousness.

Greg Proops - Who's Line Is It, Anyway?

Greg Proops - Who's Line Is It, Anyway?

Was a pleasure to talk with Greg Proops about his continuing work with "Whose Line Is It, Anyway" in its various incarnations, how he got started and how he manages to excel at Improv and Stand Up. Most of our talk was a delightful trip down memory lane as we talked about the rich history of stand up comedy, and San Francisco comedy’s golden age. Thanks to Punch Line Sacramento for making it possible.

Andrea Jones-Rooy - Ask a Political Scientist About The Circus

Andrea Jones-Rooy - Ask a Political Scientist About The Circus

I met Andrea Jones-Rooy when I was in Shanghai China for a comedy festival. She was there teaching at a university, performing at a circus themed nightclub, and doing stand up comedy.

She’s since moved all of these activities, and strange combinations of them, to New York which is where we caught up with her to get her origin story and to discuss her newest project the YouTube and podcast series “Ask a Political Scientist”.

    Keith Knight - WOKE! - K Chronicles

    Keith Knight - WOKE! - K Chronicles

Keith Knight is best known for the series Woke on Hulu, but the show comes after decades of building up a strong following for autobiographical comics, The K Chronicles, and his more overtly political single panel comics, (th)ink!

I had a chance to chat with Knight from his home in North Carolina about his days as a comic in San Francisco, and about his career from his start in cartooning to working on set with the writers and director of Woke to keep the show true to his vision.

Aaron Carnes - In Defense Of Ska

Aaron Carnes - In Defense Of Ska

Aaron Carnes is the author of In Defense of Ska, from CLASH! Publishing, a book that champions one of the world’s most maligned music genres.

Aaron is a music journalist based out of Sacramento, California. His work has appeared in Playboy, Salon, Bandcamp Daily, Sierra Club, Noisey and Sun Magazine. He’s also the music editor at Good Times Santa Cruz weekly newspaper, where he tries to sneak in ska content whenever his boss isn’t looking.

Aaron has been listening to ska since the early ’90s. He used to play drums in a ska band. Now he just plays ska on his car stereo.

When he’s not defending ska, he enjoys backpacking with his wife Amy Bee, and talking about music from every existing genre.

Though ska will always be his favorite.

Anton Barbeau - Musician For The World

Anton Barbeau - Musician For The World

For my first guest I wanted someone special, someone cool, someone awesome, and I achieved this by having the great Anton Barbeau on for a chat. Dig our conversation about his personal history, his stranglehold on the Sacramento music scene in the 90s, and living and creating now in Europe.

On his website, it says this about him:

“Anton Barbeau plays "pre-apocalyptic psychedelic pop." He's a Taurus, born in Sacramento and now living by a canal in Berlin. He's made something like 30 albums and has worked with members of XTC, The Soft Boys, the Bevis Frond, Cake, the Loud Family and Mystery Lawn label-mates, the Corner Laughers. Julian Cope got him stoned in Croydon once.”

It was a pleasure talking to Anton about the making of his wonderful new album: MANBIRD and about the music scene in Europe and what it’s like to tour and make fans in other countries, including earning doting praise for his music from my fave comedian Stewart Lee.

Check out his new DOUBLE album here:  manbird.antonbarbeau.com
