Welcome  to fourth episode of Season II of the Lager and Listings podcast!  In this season, we will be introducing more guests and getting their stories and insights into being real estate investors.

In this episode, we learn how to become a snowbird investor.  Our guest, Roel Sarmago shares how he and his family escaped the cold Canadian winters and started a succesful short-term rental business in Florida.  Since going through the process of moving and building a busines in Florida, Roel has begun teaching others how to do the same.

About Rob
Rob Lamontagne is a real estate investor located in Ottawa, Ontario.  As a self-employed computer consultant, he has no pension.  To retire, he will need to rely on his savings and investments.  Everything was going well, until the Global Meltdown between September, 2008 and April, 2009.  Freedom 55 had become Freedom 75 overnight.  He had to make a new plan.  As a direct result of this, in 2009, he began his real estate career as a student in an educational program teaching the Rich Dad Philosophy of buying, holding and managing investment real estate: that is, buying cash flowing investment real estate using as little of your own money as possible.

About Shelley
Shelley Hagen has been a full time real estate investor for the past 20+ years. Shelley has been involved in real estate transactions in several provinces, as well as the United States. After living in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas and Phoenix, Arizona, she became familiar with procedures on real estate acquisition in those states and completed a variety of different real estate transactions. Shelley has invested in Buy-Rent-Hold, Fix and Flips, Lease Options, Wholesale, Discount Notes, Foreclosures, Land Development and Commercial properties and is well versed in many facets of real estate finance and contract law.

Shelley has also provided real estate investing training and mentoring, in both Canada and the United States since 2003. The training programs were developed to assist Canadians build their own investing businesses. Shelley has had the great opportunity to have several of her mentor clients successfully receive Hall of Fame awards for investing excellence.

About Nina
Nina is an active Investor from Drumheller, Alberta Canada. Passionate about sharing her knowledge and experiences to help other investors.  In 2009 Nina read the purple book – then gained an interested in securing passive Income for her family.   

After reading Rich Dad, Poor Dad, she purchased her  first two  income properties shortly and quickly realized she needed more education and took several Real Estate training courses.

Over the years, she has been involved in a variety of different investment projects such as residential lease options, wholesaling, income properties – both commercial and residential.  The types of property in her portfolio range from single family homes, duplex, triplexes and a self-storage facility.

In life, no two things are created equal.  Collaborating with a realtor as an investor is no different.  As a real estate investor, you need to ensure that your realtor can not only find you properties but will function as a partner to ensure that they are sending you properties that fit your business needs.  In this episode, we had the pleasure of having our first realtor, Gary Doyle as our guest.  We have learned a lot working with Gary over the years and have been able to generate some nice profits.  Hopefully you will also learn a lot as you listen to our conversation with Gary and hear his insights on the real estate market and working with investors.

During my 25 years in the Retail Grocery Business, I have learned and developed business skills that have accelerated my transition into the world of Real Estate. In Retail you learn early on that it is all about Customer Service and working hard to meet and exceed Customer wants and needs. When you have the Customer/Clients best interests as your focus you can then use your communication, marketing, business analysis and negotiation skills to help Clients best achieve what is important to them.
