96 - How do You Decide What to End & What to Continue?
You can not keep doing it all!! What needs to end for you to move forward and move forward well?
Somethings are holding you back, let's explore how to decide.

    1. What needs to end? Think about cutting dead branches off.

    2. What's on the fence? Maybe something isn't quite ready to end, develop a threshold to determine if it should stay and how to move forward.

    3. What is allowing you to thrive? Keep those things.

How can you incorporate in your organization or your personal life the above to help you be successful?

94 - Are You a Culture Fit for Your Next Organization?

94 - Are You a Culture Fit for Your Next Organization?

How good of a culture fit are you with what you’re planning next?

You are thinking about what’s next, you might be moving laterally or up or a totally new job.

How do you uncover if you are a culture fit for your next position or organization you are going to? We will revisit Schein’s analysis of organizational culture:

    1. Artifacts:  You know where you want to go? What are those things you see when you walk into the organization?  There is a feel in the office.  What is it you want? Write it down, this is what you are looking for.
    2. Espoused Values:  What is written, mission, vision, values, strategic plans? This is often the easiest to find on websites or in the office.
    3. Underlying assumptions:  This is what really is going on in the organization. What do you want them to be in your next organization?  You have to uncover them. Formed by people being together for a period of time and solving a problem, this gets passed along. Build questions about what you want to uncover?  For example; tell me about the last time someone left, why did they leave?

Write down what you want,  you need to get face to face with people in your organization. Does the audio match the video. It is worth the work to uncover these areas to find out if you are a good fit.

93 - Do You Know Your Organizational Culture Well Enough?

93 - Do You Know Your Organizational Culture Well Enough?

Do you know your organizational culture well enough to make a change?

In Edgar Schein’s book “Organizational Culture and Leadership” he proposed that organization culture can be analyzed on three levels.

    1. Artifacts - what do you physically see and feel when you check out an office space or business?
    2. Espoused values - what is the ideal mission, policy and expectation of behavior?
    3. Underlying assumption - the expectations that are assumed but not necessarily talked about.

If you are an executive exploring a new company or organization walking through the history of that company looking at the above can become very insightful and helpful to making a cultural impact.

    80 - 2 Parts of Self-Awareness

    80 - 2 Parts of Self-Awareness

    Self-Awareness.

This is the most important element of your leadership. If you understand who you are you can lead well.

I explore two parts of self-awareness, from the research and book by Tasha Eurich.

    1. Internal - how clearly you see yourself, your insights, goals, the impact you have on others.

    2. External- how clearly you see yourself as others see you.

They are independent of each other. Research has shown that having external self- awareness can lead to better relationships with those you lead and you can be a more effective leader.

How do you build self-awareness? Through honest feedback. Need help getting that feedback? Comment below.

79 - Evaluate This Year & Plan for the Next

79 - Evaluate This Year & Plan for the Next
It’s the end of October. Let’s look back and evaluate how e have done this year and use it to plan the next.
Take a look at the year. Look at January. Did you have resolutions? Have some goals? Did you have a word for your year?
Did you set a resolution? Can you check them off? Why or why not? You still have a few months to check them off?
What were your goals you set for yourself? Reevaluate those goals, maybe they were too easy or things changed. How do you need to adjust and be honest with yourself.
What about a word? Did you have a word for the year? How did your word work for you?
Evaluate your growth as a leader. How did you start the year? Where are you now?
Now as you look toward next year ask the following questions.
    1. What worked?
    2. What did not work? Get rid of it.
    3. What do I need to start doing?
    4. What do I need to stop doing?
Take some time to evaluate where you are and where you want to go for the rest of the year and next.
