In Australia the wait for donor oocytes in some fertility clinics is up to 3 years. The options for most people ttc is to ask friends or relatives, advertise themselves or use overseas companies to source oocytes for their long awaited child.

Genevieve Uys was an oocyte donor herself and has 9 donor children around the world. After her experiences donating oocytes, she found herself in a unique position to create her own company to assist more families complete their dream of having a baby.

Traveling donors has a database of oocyte donors and will work with fertility clinics to co-ordinate cycles and prepare all the necessary documentation.

This week I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr Michelle Perugini, Founder and CEO of Life Whisperer, which uses AI technology for embryo selection.

Using AI to select the best embryos for transfer and freezing is improving pregnancy results and assisting embryologists at clinics around the world.

What do you consider a family?

Generally, when you ask someone what is a family, they will typically think of parents with children and extended family members, who are biologically related to them.

However, a family can be made up of so much more than this ancient outdated definition.

Families share common values, goals, emotional bonds and responsibilities. Mostly family members contribute to the wellbeing of others in the family unit.

This topic comes up a great deal with clients, so I thought it would be a great idea to look at the definitions out there currently and highlight what makes a family!

This week I had the pleasure of talking with Dr Kaylen Silverberg.

Kaylen is a board certified reproductive endocrinologist, obstetrician and gynaecologist and the Medical Director of Texas Fertility Centre.

We talked about male fertility, what has changed, when should you have testing done, what can you do to prepare when ttc and the types of testing that you might expect.

Men largely feel marginalised in the process of ttc, so opening up the conversation about male factors is an important one.

Dr Lynn Westphal is CMO at Kindbody, a new model for fertility health care.(

They have mobile clinics (the fertility buses) positioned in high traffic areas so women can potp in for a chat and organise a fertility assessment.

Their primary group of patients is women seeking to freeze their oocytes, however they offer IVF cycles and a full range of fertility services.

Lynn set up one of the first cyropreservation programs for oncology patients back in 1998 at Stanford University.

With such an incredible wealth of fertility experience, the conversation with Lynn was enlightening.

This week I wanted to discuss a common pattern that we all use from time to time, projection. I don’t mean the obvious ones, such as getting stuck in traffic and coming home grumpy. Or having a tough meeting and taking your frustration out of your work colleagues … I am talking about the sneakier projections, the ones that build up over time. Once you get to know the clues, you will be able to spot these projections much sooner and take evasive action!

Choosing a clinic, picking out the sperm donor and then having 2 very different cycle types, which gave her 2 beautiful children.

Every pathway to parenthood is different, starting a family on your own is a brave decision, with the love, support and determination, Shona now has the family that she always dreamed about.

Kellie Harriden shares her story, 8 very long years of fertility treatment.

Kellie underwent numerous IVF cycles which failed, she describes her feelings and thoughts as she went through all the decisions that ultimately led her to India.

In India, Kellie used a surrogate to achieve her dream of having a baby, during the process there were many hopes, fears and feelings of despair.

Ultimately, Kellie and her partner Ian, finally came back to Australia with twins Bane and Daya. Her story is told in the book, Long-Awaited Child, a brilliant read and one that gives you a fantastic insight into the emotional mindset when traveling the pathway to parenthood!

This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Stefanie Valakas, an Accredited Practising Dietitian & Nutritionist.

This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Ella Mannix. She shared her fertility journey with me, how she met her wonderful husband and the decisions that she faced when she realised that her idea of parenting required a different approach to the standard one!

Inspired by her own fertility journey, Ella was keen to use all her research and create Sydney's first ever Fertility Expo.
