    Living With Less Podcast

The Living With Less Podcast was birthed in 2019 when the Lord placed the words “live with less” on Chelsey’s heart. She wondered what you're wondering too, "what am I being called to live with less of?" You'll hear all about that in these episodes through her own personal stories on what God is teaching her, diving into scripture, and having conversations with guests. A little more backstory: As Chelsey began diving deeper in prayer about the phrase "live with less", The Lord led her to John 3:30, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” Since that prompting He has continued to challenge, change, and shape Chelsey’s heart and grown this ministry into more than anything she could've imagined. Her first book More of Him, Less of Me: Living a Christ-centered Life in a me-centered World was published in November 2021. __ Chelsey is a wife, stay-at-home mom, and the voice behind the Living With Less Podcast. She is the author of the 52-week devotional More of Him, Less of Me: Living a Christ-centered Life in a Me-centered World. She writes devotions for Lifeway Women's Journey Magazine, Crosswalk, and iBelieve. She also writes Bible reading plans for the YouVersion Bible App. To find out more about Chelsey head to her website www.ChelseyDeMatteis.com and come join her on Instagram @chelsey.dematteis!

Mini Summer Series Week 4: Taking Teachable Moments and Turning Them Into Gospel Truths

Week 4 of the Minis Summer Series is live! We're taking another teachable moment and turning it into gospel truth. Chelsey shares how God used a rain storm to reveal that she often lived her life like so. Rainy, stormy, and joyless. Through the last 8 months the Lord has brought her to a place of being joy filled and instead of being the girl to allow rain the forecast to ruin her days, weeks, and months - He's led her to being a woman who delights in where God has her + she'll grab an umbrella with joy in her heart, and live in the moment He's placed her.

    • Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord,  and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. Psalm 37:3-5

Mini Summer Series Week 3: Taking Teachable Moments and Turning Them Into Gospel Truths

This week Chelsey continues the series for week 3 of the "Teachable Moments Turned Into Gospel Truths". She's talking all about our reactions - (the good, the bad, and the ugly)! Then she unpacks how the way we react causes people to respond back to us and how the level of our reactions can affect our witness positively and negatively.

    Scripture reference John 4

    • 16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 17 The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” 19 The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”

This week come hear how the Lord used a moment of discipline as the perfect opportunity to share about the Holy Spirit!

    • When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. John 16:13
    • Conviction is a GIFT from God. It is how Jesus dwells within us! God uses the Holy Spirit to direct and protect His people!

    When You're Called To Pause

    When You're Called To Pause

This week Chelsey is sharing about what happens when we're called to a season of pause. She shares what the Lord has done in her life through the long pause He took her through in 2021-2023, and how God is always doing so much more than we can imagine during these seasons. While they are filled with pruning, they ultimately bring us closer to Him and give Him the glory.

    Scripture References:

    • Nehemiah 1:4-11 // 4 As soon as I heard these words I sat down and wept and mourned for days, and I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven. 5 And I said, “O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, 6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open, to hear the prayer of your servant that I now pray before you day and night for the people of Israel your servants, confessing the sins of the people of Israel, which we have sinned against you. Even I and my father's house have sinned. 7 We have acted very corruptly against you and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, and the rules that you commanded your servant Moses. 8 Remember the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples, 9 but if you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there I will gather them and bring them to the place that I have chosen, to make my name dwell there.’ 10 They are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand. 11 O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who delight to fear your name, and give success to your servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” Now I was cupbearer to the king.
    • Nehemiah 2:2-8 // 2 And the king said to me, “Why is your face sad, seeing you are not sick? This is nothing but sadness of the heart.” Then I was very much afraid. 3 I said to the king, “Let the king live forever! Why should not my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' graves, lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?”4 Then the king said to me, “What are you requesting?” So I prayed to the God of heaven. 5 And I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' graves, that I may rebuild it.” 6 And the king said to me (the queen sitting beside him), “How long will you be gone, and when will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me when I had given him a time. 7 And I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, let letters be given me to the governors of the province Beyond the River, that they may let me pass through until I come to Judah, 8 and a letter to Asaph, the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the fortress of the temple, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall occupy.” And the king granted me what I asked, for the good hand of my God was upon me.
    • Nehemiah 2:17-18 // 17 Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates burned. Come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer suffer derision.” 18 And I told them of the hand of my God that had been upon me for good, and also of the words that the king had spoken to me. And they said, “Let us rise up and build.” So they strengthened their hands for the good work.

Marked | Loving, Living, and Leading like Jesus

Marked | Loving, Living, and Leading like Jesus

Chelsey unpacks 10 parts of scripture to see what it looks like to be truly marked by Christ. This episode will leave you feeling reminded and refreshed about who we are called to be and how to put God's call into action!

    Scripture references:

    • Mark 12:30 // 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
    • Mark 12:31 // 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
    • Matthew 28:18-20 // 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
    • 1 Corinthians 7:17-24 // 17 Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. This is my rule in all the churches. 18 Was anyone at the time of his call already circumcised? Let him not seek to remove the marks of circumcision. Was anyone at the time of his call uncircumcised? Let him not seek circumcision. 19 For neither circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but keeping the commandments of God.20 Each one should remain in the condition in which he was called. 21 Were you a bondservant when called? Do not be concerned about it. (But if you can gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity.) 22 For he who was called in the Lord as a bondservant is a freedman of the Lord. Likewise he who was free when called is a bondservant of Christ. 23 You were bought with a price; do not become bondservants of men. 24 So, brothers, in whatever condition each was called, there let him remain with God.
    • Galatians 1:10 // 10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.
    • Galatians 5:25 // 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
    • Ephesians 5:1-2 // Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.2 And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
    • 1 John 3:18 // 18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
    • Titus 2:1 - But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine. // 2:15 - 15 Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.
    • 1 John 4:1-5 - Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. 4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. // 4:7-8 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

The Weight of Our Witness | Sharing Truth with Authority and Love

The Weight of Our Witness | Sharing Truth with Authority and Love

This week Chelsey shares about the weight of our witness and that we can only share truth with authority in love. We're looking to Malachi 3, Ephesians 3, and 2 Timothy 2 to see what God's Word says about the posture of our hearts as we live out our faith in this world.

    Scripture References:

    • Malachi 3: 16-18 // 16 Then those who feared the Lord spoke with one another. The Lord paid attention and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the Lord and esteemed his name. 17 “They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, in the day when I make up my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him. 18 Then once more you shall see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.
    • Ephesians 3: 14-21 // 14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,15 from whom every family[c] in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
    • 2 Timothy 2:1-13 // 1You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, 2 and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men,who will be able to teach others also. 3 Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. 5 An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. 7 Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything. 8 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.

The Unraveling of An Arrogant Heart | Hope, Healing, & Redemption

The Unraveling of An Arrogant Heart | Hope, Healing, and Redemption

What a special week of the podcast this is. God has been peeling back the layers of the sin in Chelsey's life: arrogance and pride. She walks you through the unraveling of this sin and the gift of promised forgiveness. You'll find yourself diving deeper in the book of Malachi when you hear for yourself just how good God is and how He desires for us to be right with Him. He will always offer that opportunity, yet we must return to Him. We must be full of repentance and desire His redemption.

    Scriptures:

    • Malachi 4:1-4
    • Malachi 3:6-18

    A note from Chelsey:

    • I wanted to put myself in a box, a box created by man that is. However, there is no box I can check on earth that I fit fully into. I realized why, my heart belongs to heaven. I’m a daughter of the One true King. No political group, no denomination, nothing will fully encompass who GOD is. So the box I will check, is this - God’s girl. On fire for Jesus. Wanting to extend compassion while being fully ready to give account of truth. I want to be marked with the distinction of grace, mercy, and righteousness. I want to be known as a servant of Christ, and from that comes being a disciple ready to serve man. // I want the fruit of my faith to bless my husband and my children. I don’t want to be marked by arrogance and pride. I don’t want to live this life with a head of knowledge at the cost of a heart that is hardened. // Knowledge and wisdom matter, but when it repels people with a stench of arrogance and pride..we’ve lost our witness.

Happy 2023 | The Year of Invitation

Happy 2023 | The Year of Invitation

Happy 2023!! Listen this week as Chelsey shares about her hopes that this year, will be the year where we begin extending the invitations to bring the body of Christ into our homes. When Jesus gave us the Great Commission (Matt 28:17-18), He never told us that we could only open up our homes if they looked a certain way, were a certain size, or were deemed perfection by the world. However, He did tell His followers to "go therefore" - this means we must live out our faith in ACTION by INVITATION.

    Scripture reference:

    • Matthew 28:18-20 // 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

    Takeaway:

    • Inviting people into our lives is it only a sweet thing, it’s a sacred thing. Being in community with other Bible believing women is not only a command from the Lord, but also a gift from Him.
    • You can’t have deep relationship without invitation.

What a Gift | The Goodness of God

What a Gift | The Goodness of God

    Scriptures Referenced

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb.I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. Psalm 139:14-16

    The Spirit of God Moving

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. Romans 8:26

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13

A Season of Pause : A View At Chelsey's Heart

A Season of Pause : A View At Chelsey's Heart

As always this space has been full of the truth and grace that God has continued to pour out over Chelsey's life and today she shares that she will be taking a pause from the Living With Less Podcast in this season. This choice wasn't made lightly but with much prayer and the prayer of a few trusted mentors this is exactly where the Lord is leading, and there is undeniable peace in this decision.

    • Chelsey and her husband will be welcoming their second child at the end of this year, through this the Lord has made it very clear that it's time to press pause in this space while focusing on what He has entrusted her within their home.
    • You can always connect with Chelsey on IG - @livingwithlesspodcast and her website - www.chelseydematteis.com! Her devotional: More of Him, Less of Me: Living A Christ Centered Life in a Me Centered World, will be launching October 5th!!

    **A note from Chelsey**

    • From the bottom of my heart I cannot thank you all enough for being a part of this special gift the Lord has given me. Getting to connect with so many of you and to know the Lord has entrusted your hearts with me means more than words can describe. This pause is out of obedience because that is what is most important, pleasing God FIRST will always bring peace. Today, I pray you leave here knowing you are fully known and loved by God Almighty. May He increase in your heart as you deny the flesh and take up your cross. Hugs, Chelsey
