Ep. 61 - Tax My Taxes (with Skuff Micksun!)

In this episode, we welcomed Skuff Micksun into the studio for an extended session (honest S/O to the band rehearsing next door that caused us to delay the recording, because we got to kick it with him for most of the day).

We sat down and covered stories including haunted houses and dental work (one and the same??), and on a more serious note his artistic background and how his poetry turned into lyricism. We also get deep on that fact that life is a comedy. Sometimes a dark one, but still a comedy nonetheless. We’re cheers’ing to feeling New Years-y and looking forward to the “things we’ve always said”.

Thank you, Skuff Micksun for joining us in the studio! Be on the looking for new music coming soon and make sure to follow him to stay up to date on all his art forms, including a new silly single, MY ROBOT NEIGHBOR!

Ep. 60 - Spills and Thrills with Marcus Smith

Ep. 60 - Spills and Thrills with Marcus Smith

Today's episode is coming to you a little different but for great reasons. We have upped our podcasting game big time with some more visual elements (check out our YouTube) and an amazing technician working  behind the scenes, Danna O'Connor of Post Saga. To kick it off in this new realm, we were joined in the LG Studios by Marcus Smith and The Rapscallions and we also spill our drinks twice (and a third time before we even started recording).

Marcus Smith aka The Sandwich King of Cleveland has been involved in the local music scene for quite some time, and is adored by many people in the city. We show a lot of love to some mutual friends between us and discuss the success of his most recent full length album, Unique Mélange (one song from which has an amazing story involving blowing Ben Folds's mind). We also may have just saved Rock N Roll??

Of course, it's not a true Marcus Smith episode if we don't get into a discussion about sandwiches (Urban Twine - if you're listening, please bring back the Marcus Smith). This episode is completely out of control from start to finish and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Thanks, again, Marcus and The rapSCALLIONS!

Ep. 59 - Rico Blu on Opening a New Book

This week we welcomed Rico Blu into the studio, as we were able to catch him over the weekend while he was in CLE! We kicked off his first podcast interview with the most important sports topic of conversation (The Superbowl) that we in fact did not watch. On a more serious note, we got to chat about starting in the Cleveland music scene and how it compares to Pittsburgh, where he resides now.  We also celebrated Rico turning 27, and share some of our favorite birthday memories.

Fu*k the chapter, we're opening up a new book. Rico shared with us his new woman and children streetwear collection that he'll be releasing called CLAY, (carry love around you)! Make sure to check out his website to see what he's already released because the merch is FIRE. (Please peep the track pants.) And lastly, you'll have to listen to this episode to hear what his oh so secret talent is.

Thank you, Rico Blue, for joining us in the studio!  Follow him on Instagram to keep up with everything he's up to!

Ep. 58 - Mighty Misc & The Crop Top Experience

Today we said Howdy Doody to Mighty Misc - originally hailing from Portland, he made a stop in Boston and is now living that Cleveland life. In this episode, we chat about the music scenes in these cities and how they compare to Cleveland, the nostalgia of old cartoons and what our ideal superpowers would be. We also created a new segment called, "Jurbz shows us something weird on YouTube"...so stick around for that.

You don't want to MISC this episode - Mighty Misc does a killer performance with tracks from his December album "Boom Bap Derby" and some unreleased songs that may be on his next album "Malevolent Kitchen" (anticipated to drop this summer!).

In this episode, we sat down with Mike Brown, Prince Tucker, and George Chong AKA Miguel Cafe! We discussed only the most important topics including the correct spelling to the word TASTEY, and learned that cafe is Spanish for brown.

Miguel Cafe will also be heading to The Big Apple (NYC) to work with Least of All Sound Recordings where they will be recording direct to 7" vinyls. Ep. 56 - A Vivacious Chat with Abstract Sounds

Ep. 56 - A Vivacious Chat with Abstract Sounds

We welcomed Abstract Sounds to the studio at the end of the year, closing it off with one of the largest bands we've had on to date AND a genre we haven't touched yet - Jazz! Well, with Abstract Sounds, it's a bit of Jazz, R&B, Gospel, and Jam. In this interview, we hear about what its like to be such a versatile group, composing jazz versus writing songs, and Surviving Loveland: a docuseries in the making.

Abstract Sounds is bringing the dance element back to jazz music and just this past year started releasing their own tracks. Hailstorm and Ohio Nights are two singles that you can hear right now, and there are more on the way! We also have a moment for Bandcamp, the unsung hero for underground musicians. We know we are preaching to the choir, but please support your artists however you can!

Thank you, Abstract Sounds, for your powerful insight and incredible performance! Follow them on Facebook and Instagram to stay in the know and catch them at upcoming events!

    Ep. 55 - Jinarnar(i) Kemet

After we took a nice 2 week break over the holidays, we broke the studio back in with the incredibly talented Jinari Kemet  (Jinanar to us and US ONLY)  with his first interview ever. Listen in to hear the inside scoop on how he came up with his stage name and brand presence, his musical background, how we became friends, successes from 2023 and what we are ~manifesting~ for 2024.

Jinari's upcoming album 'The Othercide' is set to release this weekend (or it's already out depending on when you're listening to this) and is a complex story that has layers, folks. You're going to want to listen and then immediately re-listen to pick up on the undertones here.

If you're reading this as this episode comes out, get yourself tickets to his album release show at The Beachland Tavern Friday, January 26th featuring local hip hop artists accompanied by their bands. It'll be an amazing time!

Ep. 54 - Mystic Mondays with Wish Queen

Our first musical artist episode of the year is with Grace Sullivan aka Wish Queen, who just dropped her debut album 'Saturnalia' at the end of October and is now traveling out of state to further promote the album! The story behind what Saturnalia is and how she has strategically planned her actions to get the most out of her life based on her birth chart is something truly amazing. As fans of astrology and tarot ourselves, we ask a ton of questions as it relates to her personally, as an artist, and with an identical birth chart to Vince Vaughn. We also chat about Cleveland's Sofar Sounds events and for the first time ever (shockingly) we do some on-air tarot!

Thank you, Wish Queen, for making our wishes come true today! Check out 'Saturnalia' on all streaming platforms now, and on Instagram to keep up to date with her latest!

Season 4: Feeling Cool By Osmosis (with Joe from Guiltless Podcast!)

Welcome to Season 4 of LG! We kick things off by chatting with our friend Joe Burdon, host of the Guiltless Podcast. No live music (but possibly interpretive dance?) in this episode, but tons of great stories from the podcasters' perspectives including live shows, challenges we've faced, ideas we've toyed with, and a tangent about chicken. From his many interviews with tons of creatives, businesses, and just interesting people in the Cleveland area, Joe has incredible insight and hilarious stories that we think you're really going to love, including advice for first time interviewees and just how the human experience is about living guiltlessly, enjoying what you do!

Check out our episode with him on his show and the rest of them on all streaming platforms, and if you're free 2/10/24 get yourself a ticket to the next live show at Musica in Akron! Be sure to follow him on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date on the latest.

BONUS Episode: End of the Year Recap w/ The Jordans!

BONUS Episode: End of the Year Recap w/ The Jordans!

Friends, its been such a wonderful year. Since April, we moved into our studio, recorded 30 episodes with local artists, attended our first festivals, secured our first sponsor, and hosted our first live show event! But, this is all just the groundwork needed to make next year an even bigger and better year! In true end of the year fashion, we decided to sit down together and reflect over this past year - some of our favorite memories, performances and conversations. We have some hard hitting questions for each other that bring up notable topics such as pizza toppings and Music League, BUT most importantly we talk about the excitement surrounding next year, and while this is a sneak peak, we cannot wait to share more with you!

Thanks to everyone who has listened this year or supported in any way, sharing their thoughts and suggestions with us, and/or were featured on an episode this year!

Ep. 51 - Wreck Like Me: The Taylor Swift of New Philly??

Ep. 51 - Wreck Like Me: The Taylor Swift of New Philly??

We're only half kidding about that title, please don't sue us T Swift!

This delightful conversation with Megan Bouman a.k.a. Wreck Like Me took some interesting turns, so we do apologize for the multiple rabbit holes but in our defense they were just NECESSARY. We last chatted with Megan back in 2022 via a LoCLE Grown from Home IG Live, when she was promoting her full-length album "Time Goes On", but now there is new music from her that is a little more personal and we cannot wait for you to hear it!

Just like Wreck Like Me, we are dipping our toes into the country waters here, and now we are ready to cannonball because this music hits our hearts in ways we cannot describe. If you're a female in your 20s, this is definitely the music for you. If you're not, you'll definitely still find something relatable in her new EP "What Do I Do Now?". Check it out on all platforms, but we have the exclusive acoustic rendition of the EP at the end of this episode, so stick around!

In this episode we get to chatting about the beginning days of forming the band, the BEST places to busk around town, and how well received they've already been. Ep. 49 - Myth and Company On The Cusp

The men, the myth, and the company.

From our interview at the 2021 Marathon on 88.3 The Sting to Rock and Roll City Studios, we have been following Myth and Company for quite some time and have seen their progression as the years have gone on. But one thing we have to get out of the way, in the Spirit of Thanksgiving, is allllll the talks about food (shoutout leftovers). The guys also give us the ins on the best places for Jam Nights in the city and how after meeting 9 years ago at a Jam Night they are still going strong and finding creative pockets that they haven't adventured down before together.

Their newest singles, Evergreens and O. C. B. have hit all streaming services this year with a new take on the original Myth and Co. sounds, and we get to hear the amazing stories behind the making of each song and how you can be an animal on the stage, but a surgeon in the studio. Lastly, we get a super stripped performance of 6 original songs at the end that are sooo beautiful you'll love it!

Shifting into a new realm next year, KDIN has more songs on the horizon, including an album for the Green Thumbs and their pet plants out there. We play a fun game we just invented called "Share a Note with Us" and discuss EDM music in nature, where to find a Joshua Tree, and hear a hot take about support in Cleveland in the EDM/ House scene. Ep. 47 - Malik X & Rockstar Sh!t

We get cozy in this one as we shift from our normal interview space of ~the Breakfast Nook~ to our couch and put Malik X in ~the Bean Bag Chair~ to answer some questions that have been burning inside us since we first met him years ago.

Malik X is a seasoned rapper who has been growing his brand in and around Cleveland for almost 10 years and had a major comeback after a minor setback. There are so many great bits of advice and chats in this one, Malik is inspiring and motivates others by his work ethic and perspectives. From open mics to 2 Chefs and a Beat, Malik does so much around the music community and has collaborated with like-minded individuals such as Ray Flanagan, who lends his guitar skills in this performance.

2024 will be a great year of new music, so be on the lookout for Malik's album "From This Point On" dropping next year and 5 singles before that! Also, stay tuned for a LoCLE Grown PodLuck - don't know exactly what it is yet but we are TRADEMARKING THAT NOW.

Ep. 46 - Group Tingles with Crib Collective

We crack open our first bottle of Cleveland Whiskey in this episode, and it was bussin' so we were buzzin'. Crib Collective is a group so near to our hearts and this chat was a LONG time coming let us tell ya. First we get to the nitty gritty and settle the dispute that Apple Music is to Spotify as Androids are to iPhones - change our minds. Next, we unpack their iconic 2:30am performance at LG Live this year.

Crib Collective is a hip hop group in Cleveland with each member having the ability and confidence to show their unique sound and personality in every intricate song. We unpack how these songs are written and the ego you must set aside to have that great song as well as how the Collective got together in the first place. Also shoutout or not shoutout their neighbors, who were the inspiration for their debut album that dropped earlier this year, 605.10 (streaming everywhere, check it out).

Ep. 45 - Hunter Rose is NOT Sad

Ep. 45 - Hunter Rose is NOT Sad

Our ADHD taps in with Hunter Rose in this episode. The passion, the energy, the CRYING. It’s all here and more. From Huron and studying in Akron, Hunter Rose (formerly Huntie G) is a solo female artist who re-emerged this year into the Nu Metal / Dark Contemporary music scene. We go Deep in the Discog to have her comment on her journey that has ultimately landed her on this unique sound that not a lot of young women are doing right now. As a solo artist, she plays keys, guitar, drums, and vocalizes on top of producing most of her songs on her own.

This lively conversation goes quickly with lots to be uncovered such as feeling what you’re writing and making, the fun keyboard settings we used to mess with when we were kids, and what life would be like without autocorrect. On top of her music, Hunter is also studying to be a therapist and is a huge mental health advocate, which is showcased in a lot of her music. Also, she’s a 3D printer, gamer, and streamer, NBD.

Her next single “Burn” will be dropping soon and an album to follow, so make sure you follow her and stay connected to the amazing things she is doing!

    Ep. 44 - Y.A.Y.A and the Episode-Saving Answer

If you’ve been to a local show in Cleveland, odds are you’ve bumped into Y.A.Y.A. Today, we sit with him and 3 very close friends and musical collaborators Jake Conder, Kyle Thompson, Max Schlenk, and Sal Corrao.

FULL DISCLAIMER - we had to delay recording this episode by an hour, so we pre-gamed pretty hard for this episode to fill the time, so take a shot with us before listening but PLEASE DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!!!!

In this power hour, we discuss the lore of Y.A.Y.A and the backwards jersey, show love for Apostle Jones, juggle red solo cups, and hear possibly the best Jar of Wonders theme songS to date??? Also, The Room may or may not have the keys to the Dark Web of Cleveland.

Aside from being a very talented lyricist and rapper, Y.A.Y.A wears many hats in the Cleveland music scene and shows love to everyone out there. We truly had a blast with him and his talented entourage and WAIT until you hear their live performance of “Stars” off of his 2023 album EGODEATH (streaming everywhere!).

Check out his show at the Beachland Tavern on November 22nd for your pre-Thanksgiving FUN!

Ep. 43 - Edgy Boys Watch Cartoon Network (with Tall Grass)

It’s been a year and a half since we caught up with Tall Grass via IG Live and since then, this group of four have spent the last year gigging around the city, cooking up an album, and are sculpting what started as Midwest Emo vibes into the highly-sought-after-but-difficult-to-pull-off Lawnmowercore. With an Instagram refresh and debut full-length album "Monarch Butterfly" dropping this month, these guys are ready to show Cleveland who they are.

In this episode, we chat about the power of the capo, grandmas and Paul McCartney, and how real musicians can pat their heads and rub their tummies. We also show some love to The Rialto in Akron and to the studded belts from middle school so we could always be jingling no matter what.

Tall Grass is a goofy bunch with a great sound and stories for days, check them out and keep up with them here and be sure to stream Monarch Butterfly on and after October 27th this year! Follow on Instagram here!

Ep. 42 - Liam Brock on Setlist Success

Ep. 42 - Liam Brock on Setlist Success

If you were at our first ever LoCLE Grown Marathon Live last night, you may have seen Liam Brock hit the stage early on in the day. If you missed it, don't worry! This episode is for you. Liam Brock is a fellow Medina kid that we interview TOTALLY IN THE DARK! Jk (or are we??).

In this episode, we talk about his come up in tandum with Riley Furey, founder of the Kind of Consistent music blog and brand (listen back to Ep. 26 to hear more about Riley's story) and his first time performing in Cleveland - how losing a headliner last minute turned into the best night of his life. This just proves the fact that when things go wrong, they never really go wrong.

Get your pen and paper, friends, because Liam will teach you his 3 methods to snagging the setlist from a band after a show, and hear the story of when JLaird and Jurbs performed in the high school talent show.

Check out his stuff here and follow him on Instagram right here!

    SONGS PERFORMED:
    Stalled
    Pulling Weeds
    Words
Bottom of the Bottle (Jack Kays cover, per our request)

Thank you to everyone for listening and supporting the podcast, we are truly humbled to be here supporting local talent and had so much fun showing you what we love about local music!
