A not fun week in Australian football, plus the 2005 redraftables

A not fun week in Australian football, plus the 2005 redraftables

It was not a fun week for Australian football. After a bit of usual nonsense, Josh Parish, Teo Pellizzeri and Nick Stoll get into the disappointing news that almost half of the workforce behind the A-Leagues were made redundant this week.

They discuss what it means for the domestic game, what it says about media in 2024 and the reaction to the news. They also talk about how can the football media that remains actually make Australian football more fun - and the role that the audience plays in that.

An unusually serious discussion eventually ends and they conclude by taking a look at the Colakovski-Taggart partnership at Perth, the brilliance of Max Burgess and why the Socceroos will now probably win the Asian Cup.

ChristMAFFS presents! Sneaking players into the Socceroos and Ange Postecoglou!

ChristMAFFS presents! Sneaking players into the Socceroos and Ange Postecoglou!

The big questions Nick D'Urbano, Joe Simon and Nick Stoll ask this week:

    - Who is the best goalkeeper in the A-League? And do they have Australian ancestry?
    - Should we use the third goalkeeper spot in the Asian Cup squad to sneak in a legend? Can we get Bozza? Can we get Ange?
    - What is the most iconic moment at Gosford stadium? The kid with the sniper? The sauce bottle giving Jets fans the finger? The streaker who was wearing a moon boot? Usain Bolt?
    - How much would retro NSL kits be worth?
    - Is Ben Old a terrible name for a young precarious talent? Should he swap names with Jamie Young?
    - Is Alex Paulsen really 183cm or 193cm? Someone is lying.
    - What is the record for most penalty saves in an A-League season?
    - Would football massively improve with more indirect free-kicks in the box?
    - Which A-League coach was in Stoll's DMs?
    - Did John Aloisi's red card actually demonstrate his greatness?
    - Can we get Zinedine Machach a fake ID as 'Aussie Dean' and get him on the plane to Qatar?
    - Are MIT physicists studying Sydney FC's strange new manager bounce? Is it bouncing like a Sherrin?
    - Does Angel Torres have the most irrational confidence in the league?
    - Is Ange turning the tide with Tottenham?

Who can the Socceroos naturalise? Ange proves the doubters wrong and why a horse in the box could be the future of football.

Who can the Socceroos naturalise? Ange proves the doubters wrong and why a horse in the box could be the future of football.

Macarthur and Adelaide played out a 7-goal thriller and that inspired questions like: do we need a better nickname for Nestory Irankunda? Can Ulises Davila be called up for the Socceroos? Should the keeper always be sent up for a last minute corner? Is there anything in the rules that say a horse can't play football?

The boys also discuss what is the best forgotten A-League goal? Is Ange better than Pep? Has the orange ball ever been used in Australia? Was there originally meant to be A-League champion rings? Who should be in the Asian Cup squad? How do you fill air-time on TV when there is a weather delay?

    It's weird, it's chaotic, it's MAFFS.
