Dave Revsine, Big Ten Network and ESPN

Dave Revsine is the lead studio host and a play-by-play announcer for the Big Ten Network. He's one of my oldest friends in the business, going back to the days of ESPN and the original launch of ESPNEWS. LeslieAnne Wade: Former CBS SVP, Communications, Consumer Media Expert

LeslieAnne Wade has enjoyed a remarkable career in public relations and communications, much of it in the sports space. After working in sports information at the college level, she moved to USA Network, where she handled PR for a variety of events, including the first Ryder Cup to be televised live from Europe. She is perhaps best known for her tenure at CBS Sports, where she rose to the level of Senior Vice President -- the first woman to do so in that division. In a wide-ranging and thoughtful conversation, we discuss her career, the current state of the industry, and the many definitions of "public relations."

Super Bowl Preview and Silly Prop Bets, with Todd Wright

Super Bowl Preview and Silly Prop Bets, with Todd Wright

Todd Wright is one of my oldest friends in the business. He’s known for “All Night with Todd Wright,” a national show on ESPN Radio that he started in 1996. He was also on nationwide on Sporting News Radio, and made frequent appearances on local radio in Tampa, where he still lives. We worked together for several years at the old Sun Sports, where Todd was a panelist on our talk shows. Now in semi-retirement from radio, Todd runs the Todd Wright Tour, a wildly successful amateur golf series in the Tampa Bay area, and hosts a couple of podcasts, including one dedicated to fantasy football. As someone with very little background in the NFL, I rely on Todd for all of my pro football questions. Hence, our Super Bowl preview — a mix of serious football talk and speculation on stupid prop bets. And for all those search engines out there: Taylor Swift.

Gary Christian: A Life In Golf

Gary Christian: A Life In Golf

For an Englishman, Gary Christian has an All-American story. Coming from a working class background in Britain, he learned to play golf with a set of cut-down, hickory-shafted clubs. A successful amateur career led to a scholarship at a junior college in Alabama, where he played well enough to transfer to Auburn. Turning pro at the age of 28, he played minitours all over the US, eventually graduating to what is now the Korn Ferry Tour. There, he won twice before earning his PGA Tour card for the first time at the age of 40. When his playing career was cut short due to injury, he began a second act as a golf commentator. He's now in a transitional phase of his career, something that is imminently relatable. Our topics included career pivots, 'Welcome to Wrexham,' and what it's like to be paired with Tiger Woods.

The Spo Show: Directing Live Events, with Peter Esposito

Previous episodes of "Media Credentials" have covered directing live studio shows (with Eric Rutledge) and producing live events (with Ray Jacobs). Now, a new combination -- directing live events. Peter Esposito started his broadcasting career at a small college in New England, moving to an entry-level position at ESPN, and then joining Golf Channel at the network's inception. Golf has taken "Spo" all over the country and around the world as he "paints the picture" for the viewers at home. We talk about his upbringing in a tiny corner of Massachusetts, his introduction to the big leagues in Boston, his path to Bristol and then Orlando, and the nuances of directing golf versus other sports.

My guest on this episode is a hockey guy, but like most hockey guys I’ve met in my career, he’s also a golf guy. Ray Jacobs is the senior coordinating producer for the National Hockey League’s production arm, a staff job he took in 2023 after 20-plus years on the road as a freelance golf producer. We touch on that familiar theme -- freelancing versus staff -- and delve into his experiences at golf’s major championships and the Olympics, and why he ultimately left the road life. He explains how remote production has taken some of the fun out of sports TV, and turns the tables to ask me a few questions. Plus, memories of our time together on the Korn Ferry Tour, and some of the sneaky great cities we got to visit.

Kristi Hujik: ESPN, Golf Channel, SiriusXM, Health Coach

Kristi Hujik is a certified health coach and Senior Producer for PGA Tour Radio on SiriusXM. We shared newsrooms together for over two decades at both ESPN and Golf Channel, a bizarre overlap in our careers that neither one of us can truly explain. Kristi talks about her journey in sports media, starting at a local radio station in Pennsylvania and continuing to Bristol and Orlando. We discuss common connections and random pathways, how a phone call or a chance encounter on an airplane can alter the direction of our lives. I also dedicate this episode to a former ESPN colleague who had a significant impact on both Kristi and me.

Versatility and "Pivoting": Julie Hoddy, Production Specialist

For many in sports media - particularly those who work behind the scenes - freelancing is a way of life. Staff jobs are often hard to come by, even more so in the post-Covid 'gig economy.' We talk about her transition from road to office, her fondest memories of gigs at Golf Channel and the Big Ten Network, among others, and her advice for women who might be contemplating a career in media.
