    Men of Words Podcast

Welcome to the Men of Words Podcast! This is a platform for conversation with successful people about Mental Health. Our aim is to speak to males at the top of their fields across sport, business, music and anything in between to hear stories of adversity, failure, success and the Mental Health journey throughout. Opening up about these issues is historically not our strong-suit as males and that is the area we are hoping to have some affect. Liam (Murph) and Michael (Muff) are long time friends with intersecting journeys through the highs and lows of Mental Health, having had personal and professional relationships for years and many conversations like the ones we are choosing to have with these elite performers. Our goal is a simple one. If we can motivate someone to have a conversation about their mental health, be it with friends, family or a professional, then we have achieved our goal. Thanks so much for listening, for any questions or queries please contact us through Instagram @menofwordspodcast or email us at menofwordspodcast@gmail.com If you need support, it's there. Talk to a friend, family, your GP or call Lifeline on 13 11 14.

    Anabelle Smith

Belle Smith is a weapon. Keep an eye on her in Paris 2024 because she has been and still is performing at the top of her game in most people's favourite Olympic sport... Diving.

Belle has had a long career and we spent half this episode reading back the list of accolades! World champion Springboard diver representing Australia at the highest level for 15 years... all of this plus the fact that she was an incredible person and just the loveliest chat to have!

She really embodies what we're all about, making Mental Health an easier part of our lives and we are all for it. BIG love to Belle, please enjoy this episode!

    Alex Woodward

    Alex Woodward

1st ep of 2024! Today we are talking to former AFL player Alex Woodward. Alex sat down with Murph and Stocks for a big chat and it was a ripper.

Alex experienced the highs and lows of AFL and even post his playing career he dealt with his share of adversity. His experience as a runner in the AFL Grand Final is a wild story and has been the catalyst for a lot of growth for Alex.

We hope everyone enjoys the chat and big thanks to Alex for joining us. Enjoy!

    Fatherhood

    Fatherhood

Mini #5 - this is a chat on the back of some exciting news with a couple of pending Fatherhood updates...!

It was a nice chat to hear each of our perspectives on Fatherhood, it's a wild time with a couple kids on the way for Murph and myself! Stocker, our emotional sherpa, asked us a few big questions and shared his own experience and as always he's got a great perspective.

These are exciting times and we are grateful to have people we can talk about it all to. It's easy to feel isolated in big moments of change, so conversations like these make a big difference. Enjoy!

    Dyson Heppell Returns

    Dyson Heppell Returns

Our first episode with our newly minted host, is with one of our original guests and just about the most positive guy on the planet!

Mr. Dyson Heppell joins us for this chat and we couldn't be happier. Dyso has this infectious positivity and an incredible outlook. We talk about his life inside and outside of footy and how he is excited for what's to come.

I think this best sums up the chat with something he said... "Life doesn't happen to you, it happens for you"

Enjoy this episode of the pod!

The Men of Words - Murph and Muff

The Men of Words - Murph and Muff

Today's episode is one that we have wanted to have for a while. Murph and I share a lot of our story and this was an opportunity to paint a broader picture and try to distill who we are into a conversation. We were very grateful to be interviewed by recent guest & new friend in Liam Stocker.

Stocks is an incredibly well spoken young man and so passionate about Mental Health, he really made this a comfortable conversation despite the topics being very hard hitting and we love him for it.

    Jack Watts

    Jack Watts

Long time coming this chat... Friend of the podcast and cold water enthusiast Mr. Jack Watts joins us for a conversation today!

Jack has an infectious energy and his new podcast, the Overly Excited Podcast is probably a very apt description of the man! He is also the founder of Skwosh with one of our favourite souls Jack Stubby Turner!

Murph gets into the ups and downs of Jack's football career, one that was nearly the most remarked upon of any player in the last decade and not with a lot of understanding and support. He has grown into his true self though and can find some success and happiness where he is now. He's a gem, big thanks to Jack for joining!

    We hope you enjoy!

Amazing conversation, Bec shares her experiences around her biggest dips on her Mental Health journey and speaks to her legacy she wants to leave. She is making the game better for her being there and it's so nice to hear how proud she is of hers and her teammates.

    MVP with only 3 points...?

    MVP with only 3 points...?

Our chat today is a special one. A chance to catch up with each other during this Mental Health Awareness month and we reflect on the 2 week journal challenge.

It is so nice to hear the introspection Murph got from the journalling, even if he didn't make it the 2 weeks straight and to be honest it doesn't matter. To come out the other end and be more understanding and have grown a little make's it all worth it.

    Liam Stapleton

    Liam Stapleton

We are joined by Nova breakfast radio host, 1 third of Liam, Ben and Belle... Liam Stapleton!

It should come as no surprise that Liam is an incredibly well-spoken man and quickly became the best host of the Men of Words in his episode!

This was a big chat, so nice to hear stories and perspective of someone who has such a close professional relationship, working with his broadcast partner and best mate Ben for so long now. Hearing about the real world effects of people's online bullying is a pretty stark reminder that people in the public eye are people all the same.

Liam is a jet. A soccer fan, a dog fan and a fan of telling stories, big to love to him for coming on! Enjoy.

Monty (no surprises) is a funny fella! Not to mention he is sitting on the script of the century, making a movie called the Great Emu War with comedy legends in Australia next year!

Monty can speak to the grind of making a career out of comedy and the value in being a good bloke. There is no longevity in being a bad person as he will tell us about.

Big thanks to Monty for a chat, can't wait to see his work on the big screen, please enjoy our chat!

    2 Weeks.

    2 Weeks.

Back again with the 2nd MoW mini conversation with the fellas. Today we find ourselves overwhelmed with gratitude and pride in some of the feedback we have received for the pod and share a couple of our favourites.

A new challenge... hence the title '2 Weeks'

We have set ourselves a little 2 week positive habit challenge in which we will be journalling everyday for 2 weeks. This is a favourite of ours but like most good habits for us, is hard to maintain. This will be a little inflection point to reset, start it up again and see how we feel after a couple weeks.

We hope anyone listening is inspired to find something they know is good for them and give them selves their own little 2 week challenge!

Our chat today is with Australian & Torres Strait Islander artists Busby Marou.

Tom Busby & Jeremy Marou are 2 parts of the all time duo, responsible for one of the all time great Triple J Like a Versions...!

The fellas are touring this year and joined us in Melbourne on the couch, decked out in the "Rockhampton safety boots" (thongs) defying the cold weather.

This chat was just Michael with the guys, and how lucky he was to get some amazing parenting advice and hear about what their music means to so many Australians. What an honour to host the guys and we are also excited for their Album BLOOD RED, streaming everywhere now!

CW: This conversation covers topics across Mental ill Health and may be triggering for some listeners. We advise everyone to use their discretion and please remember there is help and support available. It's closer than you think.
