Anja let me ask her big questions like, "What was it like to become your Most True You within the context of your marriage?" and "What the heck are the Vagina Monolgues?"

We talk about the connection between making space to hear ourselves and making space to hear others, and becoming the kind of parent we actually want to be.

Raven Scott - The Empath and the Narcissist

Raven Scott - The Empath and the Narcissist

Raven Scott is the author of  Empath and the Narcissist: A healing guide for people pleasers. She focuses on the North Node placement in helping others heal and find their life purpose.

In this conversation, Raven and I talk about how growing up in the church made her more susceptible to narcissistic abuse, what leaving looked like (it wasn't a one-time thing, and that's normal!), and how she has healed. Raven offers practical tips on learning to stand up for yourself.

    My review of Raven's book:

Raw, authentic, and practical -- Raven Scott delivers a powerful look at the life of an empath, how it so easily leads into the clutches the narcissist, and provides powerful tools to help the empath heal, grow, and live the life they're meant to live. In each chapter, Raven explores treasures lost, human elements at play, and "gifts from the emotional toolbox." She weaves in metaphysical concepts such as the chakras, or energy centers, and astrology, providing brief overviews and resources to learn more. In "Empath & The Narcissist," Raven Scott holds a lantern to those walking an otherwise dark path, providing not only the light of her own journey, but the tools needed to help others find their own way.

Healing From Narcissistic Abuse - Part 2 of 2 with Courtney Carini

Healing From Narcissistic Abuse - Part 2 of 2 with Courtney Carini

No More Narcissists by Candace LoveDo you have a walking rainbow in your life? I do. Her name is Courtney. We met on the playground in first grade and have been friends ever since. Courtney is the funniest, smartest, kindest, most colorful person I know, and being able to record a conversation with her was pure magic!

Courtney and I have lived a lot of life together or parallel to each other. We survived a week in the woods with only Annie Lennox to listen to, multiple church camp trips to the Florida beaches, a trip to London and Paris that she won on The Ricki Lake Show, and many many things in between or since all of that.

In Part 2 of 2 we pick up with the question posed to Courtney: "What brought healing after leaving a relationship with a narcissistic partner? " We get real about what healing has looked like, some of the challenges we have both faced along the way, and even talk about medication's role in the process.

Interview with Charlie Barker - Hearing the dissonance; embracing the chaos

Interview with Charlie Barker - Hearing the dissonance; embracing the chaos

Episode 4 is all about the Four--Enneagram Four. Charlie Barker (my brother in law!) and I are both Fours and we do Big Feelings. Charlie goes deep about the dissonance he felt growing up in the church (Noah's Ark, anyone?!), recognizing the bleed over into dissonance in his relationships, and learning to embrace the chaos and beauty of his inner voice. We explore the ability to maintain relationships while distancing ourselves from the old stories that had once been at the center of those relationships. We chat about learning to listen to our bodies as a source of truth and knowing. And we laugh about becoming friends after years of being family.

Funny, explorational, honest, and at times slightly awkward, this episode is for those who, as Charlie says, recognize that their brains are trying to believe something their bodies simply can't.

As Charlie has come to embrace his Most True Self, he has self-published a book, continues to write and perform music, and has been able to embrace his life in its entirety.

    Charlie's website is www.tinystudio92.com
His book, Wind Walker, can be found on Amazon.

Deconstructing - and not reconstructing - my faith

Deconstructing - and not reconstructing - my faith

Many people who go down the road of deconstructing their faith end up finding a way to reconstruct it somehow. Spoiler alert: I did not rebuild.

This episode covers my thoughts on choosing not to rebuild, calling out the bullsh*t of silencing victims in the church, and recognizing the exclusion of others and the threat of eternal torture as a mirage meant to control others.

A hope-filled recognition of pain,  healing, and beauty, this episode is for all who have felt excluded, silenced, shunned, shamed, or harmed in any way by the church.

The Backstory to the Most True You podcast

This episode goes all the way back to Eighth Grade church camp, high school youth group, and how my experience growing up in the church led me out of the church to embrace my Most True Me. This is the backstory for why this podcast exists and explores spiritual motherhood, leaving an abusive marriage, losing everything I knew to find who I was all along. While it is a story about my life, it's an invitation to find your own story.
