Tostones & Mango Lemonade with Emily

Emily was in my kitchen for episode 13 and here we are, with another Martha Stewart recipe. These Tostones were salty, soft, slightly sweet, and a perfect snack. And the Cilantro-Garlic Sauce had so much flavor that really knocked us on our butt. We paired these fried treats with homemade mango lemonade!

Pad Thai with Andrea & Melody

We are going to need a bigger bowl! The tables have turned as Andrea leads me through a takeout favorite, Pad Thai! And after an attempt at hot yoga, I tried to find my center in the form of a Ginger Balance Cocktail. With a special appearance by Melody, this friend triangle was reunited and it feels so good!

Egg & Bacon Impossible pie and Frozen Peach Teas with Zorgie

Zorgie and I have a spirited conversation about how our two families pass along flavorful favorites in the kitchen. The recipe taking center stage today, Egg & Bacon Impossible Pie. But, is a dish with no crust truly a pie?  Don’t forget the cocktail, we are bringing the chill inside with Frozen Peach Teas.

Cheesy Broccoli & Cauliflower Soup / Boozy Gingerbread Coffee with Bill

We had a casualty in the kitchen this episode! R.I.P to my cheese grater as we made our Cheesy Broccoli and Cauliflower Soup. Luckily, Bill made bread! So I guess I will forgive him for this. Join us as he walks me through the process and don’t forget a glass of Gingerbread Coffee with Baileys!

Ravioli and Honey Pear with Veronica and Martha

Two lovely sisters are joining me in the kitchen this week and carbs are on the menu! It may be the new year, making resolutions to be a better me, and all that jazz. But for the sake of the pod, I will happily eat Easy Edamame Ravioli with Mint and an easy two-part cocktail made with fresh pears and honey.

Home for the Holidays with Angela

With the holidays on my mind, Angela and I are filling the Cook Spot with heartwarming flavors that remind us of home. We are getting extremely personal, we both lost our moms too soon and are sharing their legacies with passion, laughs, and understanding. Comfort food and cocktails were necessary. Dig into All-American Meatloaf and sip on Mrs. Claus Cranberry Cocktail with us this season.

    Fusion with Calvin and Tiff

    Fusion with Calvin and Tiff

My Tiny Cook Spot is on the road to talk food fusion with Calvin and Tiff. And to keep it interesting my guests have decided to show me how to prepare the same dish in three different ways. The recipe of Mapo Tofu will be lovingly created in the classic Szechuan variation, Taiwan variation, and a “Fusion” variation made with beef bourguignon stock. How will we be able to eat it all?

Shrimp Pasta and Cherry Limeades with Miranda

Shrimp Pasta and Cherry Limeades with Miranda

While Miranda’s fiancee is away these two cooks will play! We are getting silly with shellfish and whipping up a dish straight from my mom’s head, Shrimp Pasta with Roasted Red Peppers and Basil (I love a descriptive title)

We are sipping on fizzy Cherry Limeades while trying to decipher the lack of ingredient list and not take the card’s implied disappointment for not using heavy cream to heart.

Settle in for our scavenger hunt adventure, battle with shrimp, and the story of my last injury in the kitchen and how it destroyed my dream of riding a motorized bull.

    Martinis with Miki

Two PT..powerful women are in the kitchen with all burners blazing! On the menu? Martha Stewart’s Mushroom Martini and a Prickly Pear Martini created by yours truly.

What the hell is a prickly pear?

That’s right, martinis on martinis! Do not worry, there is NO alcohol in the Mushroom Martini but there IS alcohol in the Prickly Pear Martini. Be sure not to mix them up!

Seriously, what the hell is a prickly pear?

We are coming at you hot with some summertime memories, tips from Mommom, poached egg fails, and a whole lot of laughs. I hope you are ready because I am not sure I was

Sit back, relax, and get those pinkies up because it is time to get cooking!

    Kruschiki with Melody

    Kruschiki with Melody

First, I am so sorry for the volume! I tried my best to fix it in postproduction and this is the best I could do. It will be better next time. I promise!

For our first ever episode Melody is joining me at the high top in My Tiny Cook Spot!

We are cracking open my Mom's recipe box and diving right into the cookie section. That is right, a section JUST for cookies. There were three options on the table and Melody decided to conquer Kruschiki (also known as Angel Wings), which is a cookie I grew up with! It is such a staple that I actually have two recipe cards to dissect. That should be fun!

The cocktail shaker is ready, our glasses are filled with Strawberry Mint Fizz and we are ready to sugar crash.

Blistering dough? Freddy Kruger's face? That is right, Freddy was a topic of discussion. How? You will find out.

    Welcome!

    Welcome!

It has finally happened!! Welcome to My Tiny Cook Spot, the adventure of a home cook as she journeys her way through her mom's recipe box!

I am that home cook and your host, Kate Schmeck. If you love food, love to eat, have had a long relationship with cooking, or if you are just beginning to cook then I think you are in the right place!

My mom passed down this stainless steel box that is filled to the brim with recipes gathered from books, magazines, family, and friends. Give or take 290 recipes! I haven't touched this box in 9 years, which is a major bummer, so my goal is to cook through as many recipes as I can with the people in my life. CRAZY RIGHT!

So each episode my guest and I will cook together, have a few laughs, drink a few cocktails, and learn a bit about each other. How fun does that sound!

The other half is adding to this box. Every once in a while my guest will bring their own recipe to My Tiny Cook Spot to add to this collection.
