How to Be a Caregiver with No Regrets with Rayna Neises

Rayna Neises author of No Regrets:  Hope for Your Caregiving Season, ICF certified coach, Positive Approach® to Care Independent Certified Trainer, the host of “A Season of Caring” podcast, and speaker is passionate about supporting daughters and sons in a season of caring with their aging parents. Rayna lost both of her parents to Alzheimer’s disease twenty years apart. After her season of caring for her dad through his journey, she founded A Season of Caring where she offers regret-free resources, encouragement, and support aimed at preventing family caregivers from aimlessly wandering through this important season of life. Rayna lives on a farm in southeast Kansas with her husband, Ron, and a small pack of adorable dogs. She is the baby of her family, but most would never guess. In her free time, Rayna enjoys crafts of all kinds and spending time with her grandkids most of all.

A few highlights from the show:

    1. Caregiving is a new season and you can't do all that you did in your season before. You have to make room!

    3. When you become a caregiver you are managing.

    4. Gift your favorite caregiver CARE for the Caregiver affirmation cards. Give some encouragement

The Caregivers Path to Soul Care and Self-Healing with Dr. Edward Smink

Dr. Edward Smink Ph.D. defended his doctoral thesis, “Thresholds of Afflictions: The Heroic Journey of Healing,” at Pacifica Graduate Institute in May of 2010 and graduated with a Ph.D. in Philosophy with an emphasis in Depth Psychology. His dissertation hallmarks what Dr. Smink considers a sacred trust of his over forty years of experience in healthcare as a registered nurse, crisis and pastoral counselor, executive leader, facilitator of mission, ethics, spirituality, value and leadership formation, and a leader and promoter of community health. Dr. Smink likes to claim that along with his academic credentials, he has learned much as a caregiver from his experience with colleagues who care for others and from those who needed his services. His book The Soul of Caregiving, A Caregiver’s Guide to Healing and Transformation is an outcome of his dissertation and his contribution to caregivers and the community.

Social Security Disability: The Importance of Section 13 Disability Listings for Cancer Patients with Spencer Bishins

Social Security Disability: The Importance of Section 13 Disability Listings for Cancer Patients with Spencer Bishins

Spencer Bishins has a master’s degree from the London School of Economics, and a law degree from Florida State University. After law school, he worked in the private sector for two years prior to joining the Social Security Administration (SSA) in 2010. He worked at the Appeals Council for almost four years, reviewing thousands of disability decisions for compliance with SSA’s complex rules and procedures. He then worked at the hearing level for seven years, where he drafted almost 2,000 decisions for SSA Administrative Law Judges. After working for SSA for more than 10 years, he wanted to help demystify the complicated disability system.  His first book, Social Security Disability Revealed: Why it’s so hard to access benefits and what you can do about it, explores the obstacles that disability claimants face as they try to access benefits.

✨A few highlights from the show:

    1. Many people are denied at the beginning of the social security disability benefits process because they have incomplete medical records and there is an incentive to deny claims.

    2. Don't DIY when applying for social security benefits.

Don't Give Up! Grow Through the Narrow Spots in Life with Ruth Bachman

Don't Give Up! Grow Through the Narrow Spots in Life with Ruth Bachman

In February of 2003, Ruth Bachman was a left-handed woman, wife, and mother in apparent good health. She ate reasonably well, was physically active, had annual checkups, practiced meditation and yoga, attended church regularly, and volunteered in the community. Today, she is all of those things plus the grandmother of 4; except now, after diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue sarcoma, she is a right-handed amputee with a renewed purpose for life, which is a mission to share a message equipping individuals with the perspective and resources necessary to navigate the inevitable changes that occur in life, by design or by happenstance, while recognizing the powerful potential for transformation by embracing “what is”. Ruth has climbed mountains, written an award-winning book, been a survivor advocate, and spoken to a wide variety of audiences; contributing her time, her resources, and her talents to fostering the collaboration of the science that heals the body, with the critical role that mind, and spirit play toward that end.

✨A few highlights from the show:

    1. Rein In Sarcoma-https://www.reininsarcoma.org/

    2. There are many types of sarcoma. Yet, it is rare and often misdiagnosed.

    3. Reflect on what helped you survive in the past.

Shedding Light on Nutraceuticals for Health Support with Bogdan Chugunov

Shedding Light on Nutraceuticals for Health Support with Bogdan Chugunov

Bogdan Chugunov is a 17-year gastric/stomach cancer survivor. He has traveled around the globe to find people who had minimal mortality rates due to cancer. He found that diet played a big part in the low rates, and he also discovered the amazing healing properties of beehive products. Bogdan incorporated nutraceuticals that help people get and stay healthy under Bee Magic and Health Republic brands. He personally tests and consumes all of his products in addition to sharing his experience and knowledge. Bogdan is not a medical doctor.

A few highlights from the show:

    1. Nutraceuticals are food or dietary supplements that are believed to provide health benefits.

    2. 100% of nutraceuticals can be absorbed into the body. Our bodies are not designed to consume pills or capsules. Therefore, only about 5-10% can be absorbed from consumption.

    3. The immune system or immune barrier is the only thing that can prevent cancer development.

Cancer and the Healthcare System Through the Eyes of a Daughter, Caregiver, and Patient Advocate with Melissa Mullamphy

Cancer and the Healthcare System Through the Eyes of a Daughter, Caregiver, and Patient Advocate with Melissa Mullamphy

Melissa Mullamphy is a patient advocate. She was also the caregiver for her mother, Constance Burns, who passed away from ovarian cancer. She has a message that needs to be heard and tips on making your healthcare experience and outcomes positive. Melissa wrote a memoir and self-help book called, Not in Vain, A Promise Kept. It is about her mom's battle with ovarian cancer 10 years ago. It is a real and raw account of what her mother and her family went through for nine months of her cancer journey that she ultimately lost. Melissa's vision and goal are to get the message out and help people find their voice and take better control of their health.

✨A few highlights from the show:

    1. Ovarian cancer is known as the "silent killer" because the symptoms are often mistaken for other benign conditions, particularly the ones that affect the gastrointestinal system, or simply changes in a woman's body as she ages.

    2. Always research hospitals, facilities, and doctors before becoming a patient. Read the reviews and ratings. Use them as a guide.

    3. Befriend nurses.
