Before You Hit Record, Keith Conrad Has Some Advice on Crafting A Better Podcast

Before You Hit Record, Keith Conrad Has Some Advice on Crafting A Better Podcast

Keith Conrad, a longtime radio producer and podcast extraordinaire, shares his wisdom on podcasting and offers valuable advice for aspiring podcasters.

    Key Takeaways:

    - Prioritizing Purpose: Have a clear purpose for your podcast and stay true to it. Whether you're passionate about history, storytelling, or any other subject, your genuine interest will shine through in your content.

    - Avoiding Podfade: Keith defines "podfade" as the gradual decline in podcast production due to inconsistency. To avoid podfade, he recommends planning ahead and having a buffer of episodes ready to go before you launch. Consistency is key in podcasting.

    - Crafting Compelling Stories: Keith highlights the power of storytelling in podcasting. He shares examples from his own podcasts, emphasizing that finding a unique angle and engaging narrative can set your podcast apart.

    - Managing Resistance: Resistance is a natural part of any creative endeavor. Keith advises podcasters to plan for resistance, understand it's part of the process, and keep going. Done is better than perfect.

    - Embracing Vulnerability: Podcasting is an art, and perfectionism can hinder your progress. Keith encourages aspiring podcasters to embrace vulnerability, be themselves, and create content that resonates with their audience.

    - Trust the Process: Trusting the podcasting process is essential. Keith reminds us that not everyone will be your target audience, and that's okay. Your people will find you if you stay true to your purpose and passion.

This episode is a treasure trove of insights for anyone considering starting a podcast or looking to improve their existing podcast. Whether you're interested in history, storytelling, or any other niche, Keith's experience and advice will help you on your podcasting journey.

    How to Prioritize Your Purpose

    How to Prioritize Your Purpose

What's your purpose? Why do you get out of bed in the morning? What drives you? It's a question that can seem daunting, but it's also one that holds the key to a life rich in meaning.

Prioritizing your purpose and doing purposeful work is your responsibility. No one is coming to do it for you. On this episode, Paul responds to @Lanaskitten on Twitter. She writes:

"I’m not jealous of rich people bc of the things they have, I’m jealous of rich people because they get to pursue their passions in life without having to work a grueling 40+ hours a week job literally just to get by.

my dream is to work in the film/TV industry (behind the cameras so screenwriting and directing) but that’s never gonna happen bc it’s not like I have connections or the money to produce my own film and I need to focus on a realistic long-term career goal:/ I do write as a hobby but it’s hard when you work a job where you’re on your feet all day and will be even harder once I start studying again (to go into a field which is achievable-I’m still interested in but obviously not as passionate about as film and fashion and writing).

obviously you can do stuff that you genuinely enjoy on the side, and I spend most of my free time writing and editing stuff, but as is the case with most other creative industries, it’s very hard to get your foot in the door w/o connections and having time and recourses to attempt to do this is a luxury. It is naive to believe otherwise."

Lana is right. If you believe it’s never going to happen, it’s a near certainty you’re right. Why not try anyway? Give it your best shot. Increase your odds from 0 that you can achieve your dream.

We prioritize the things we give our attention to. And your purpose should be at the top of that list. You're worth it. Don't just go through the motions; create a life that reflects your values, passions, and aspirations.

It's worth the time and effort it takes to uncover your purpose, define it, and live it. And by taking that next simple step to prioritize your purpose, you're setting the stage for a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

    How To Predict The Future

    How To Predict The Future

In this episode, Paul shares how he learned to predict the future by creating it.

    • Set a clear vision for the future you desire.
    • Create the plan( i.e. the yellowbrick road to get to Oz.) Obsess over the plan and the steps every day. Without clear landmarks of where you're going, you'll literally walk in circles. It's science.
    • Get moving and adapt as you go!

Don’t Take a Vacation From Your Life, Use Vacation to Upgrade Your Life

Don’t Take a Vacation From Your Life, Use Vacation to Upgrade Your Life
Have you ever dreaded returning to the real world after vacation?

Instead of using vacation to escape your life, use your next vacation or day off to upgrade your life. Go to someplace where you won't be interrupted and think about what's working and what's not working and decide what you're going to do about it. Take responsibility and DO WHAT IS REQUIRED TO HAVE THE LIFE YOU DESIRE:

    1. Start by priming your brain ... what's great about your life? List the people and things you value the most because you'll want to reinforce and protect those things moving forward.

    2. Then, make a list of all the things that aren't working in your life. And ask yourself, why? Do you need to set boundaries or have difficult conversations? Or maybe you just need to let go of wanting something you don't want enough to do what is required.

    3. Identify which issues are within your control to change and which are not. If it's not in your control, let it go. Your mindset is within your control.

If nothing changes, nothing changes. If you'd like a coach to help you get clarity on your next simple steps toward the life you desire, you can schedule a free discovery call with Paul Goldsmith here or send a text to 559-574-3210.
