    Episode 20 -The Final Pod

Welcome to the final Educating Brad podcast, after December 2016 we will be starting a new podcast which we hope you will all follow us to and enjoy as much as you did this one.

In our end of term bumper episode, Dave and Andy take a look at films with slightly diluted timelines, Andy brings forward 2002 French Art Drama 'Irreversible' and Dave offers up 1999's Pulp Fiction esque heist drama 'Go!'. Can we make a dark, dirty revenge thriller sound lighthearted? (The answer is no by the way) and will 'Go!' still stand up 16 years down the line? (The answer is a surprising yes!)

We also have a natter about Black Mirror, Humans, Cool as Ice, Bad Grandpa (yeah, seriously) and John Wick.  Like usual Dave and Andy go off piste with a look at what 4D cinema could entail, the career of Vanilla Ice and even touch on politics, all rounded off nicely with a Partridge quote.  What more could you ask for from the final Educating Brad episode?

Music Credits - Iggy Pop - Nightclubbing and the TV Theme tune from Black Beauty

Episode 19 - Live Free or Pod Hard

Educating No-one today as Brad is absent so it's left to Dave and Andy to steer the good ship podcast through the waters of Asian cinema as we review the first of Chan Wook Park's vengeance trilogy "Sympathy for Mr Vengeance" and avant garde 80s horror(?) "The Keep." We discuss inept terrorists and sweet synth versions of iconic fairytale songs within!

Getting a mention this week, Blacklist, This is Spinal Tap, Network, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Need for Speed, a potted Michael Mann history Andy weighs in with weighty discussion on the way TV has taken over cinema and Dave somehow crowbars Richard Madeley into discussion (stay tuned for a post-credit sting!)

Music Credits: Intro - Organ Donor by DJ Shadow, Outro - Stealing the Silver Crosses by Tangerine Dream.

Episode 18 - A Pod of all Trades

Episode 18 - A Pod of all Trades

Episode 18 sees the guys delve in to the world of comedy films as we examine cult 80's buddy comedy 'Midnight Run' starring Robert De Niro and we also look at 2011's Irish cop comedy 'The Guard' starring Brendan Gleeson.

We also discuss our personal "Welcome to Earth" packages, as we decide what 2 films, 1 book and 1 album we would present to invading aliens.  I fear the aliens would mock our planet after listening to Brads album choice!

Other things to listen out for, We all pretend we don't know any porn film studios (apart from Brad, who let's himself down!), we all realise that sometimes actors just do films for money and Dave decides that a sandwich run is better than hearing Brads 'Midnight Run' theory

Music - Calexico - "All in a Days Work" & Danny Elfman - "Midnight Run Main Titles"

    Episode 17 - Halloween Special!

    Episode 17 - Halloween Special!

Welcome to our Halloween special!! In a literal sense, as we look at the Halloween films, specifically John Carpenters original classic and then the bonkers sequel without Michael Myers 'Halloween 3: Season of the Witch'

We also look at underrated films, maybe not underrated by critics but generally, films that we think deserve a bit more of a mention in our world.

Listen out for Brad as he almost falls asleep during a recording! Dave has another "shit" cinema story and Andy wonders why Tom Adkins is typecast as a sexual predator.

Music credits: Marilyn Manson - 'This is Halloween' and Spinal Tap 'Stonehenge'

Episode 16 - Video Home Podcast

Episode 16 - Video Home Podcast

It's an anthology special as the gang view two examples of the portmanteau sub genre.

George Romero makes a triumphant return with 'Creepshow' and there's a look at the modern equivalent with multi directed 'V/H/S'.  Will Brad survive?

There's also discussion regarding the most overrated movies, more of Dave falling asleep during cinema trips.  Andy rolls back the years for more schooldays anecdotes and we break the record (possibly) for the most times "Zap" is said on a podcast.

It's our George Romero special this episode, as we take a look at the original zombie classic 1968's 'Night of the Living Dead', we then examine Romero's lesser know film, 1977's modern vampire tale 'Martin'.  We barricade ourselves in the studio, clutch our crosses and garlic to our chest and prepare ourselves for the oncoming zombie hordes.  What will Brad make of Romero's unique visions of horror?, knowing Brad, he will probably like them!

Other things to listen out for, we take a look at the worst films of the 21st century in our opinions, Andy argues that you surely don't need to have seen 'Mrs Browns Boys Da Movie' to hate it, Brad invents an interesting new character for the Marvel universe and Dave regales us with more tales of his cinema going experiences.

Music Credits - White Zombie - 'Knuckle Duster (Radio 1-A)' & 'Thunder Kiss 65' and Smashing Pumpkins 'We Only Come Out at Night'

    Episode 14 - LA Podfidential

    Episode 14 - LA Podfidential

It's something of an LA special as the gang pitch up in the city of angels to discuss Nicolas Winding Refn's 2011 festival favourite 'Drive', where will Ryan Gosling rank on our unofficial beefcake-o-meter? We also discuss William Friedkin's mid 80's neon thriller 'To Live and Die in LA'

Other things to listen out for; Brad overcomes the odds to opine on today's movies, Andy questions what constitutes a cult film and Dave reveals which 00's "thriller" he fell asleep during.  We also discuss the recent BBC poll of the 21st Century's best films list and whether Dean Stockwell was ever young!

Next episode's movies will be our George Romero special as we look at 'Night of the Living Dead' and 'Martin'

Please contact the show via e mail at educatingbrad@gmail.com or on twitter @edubradpodcast or via our facebook page.

    Episode 13 - Unlucky Show 13!

Unlucky Show 13 sees our heroes take a look at the exploitation genre with the grindhouse throwback film 'Hobo with a Shotgun', we then zip over to Tokyo to get drenched in blood with the effects laden cult gorefest  'Tokyo Gore Police'

What will Brad make of the technicolor glory and lack of plot of 'Hobo with a Shotgun'? How will he cope with the arterial arcs of blood and bizarre creatures that lurk in 'Tokyo Gore Police'? Join us and find out.

Other things to look out for this episode. We ask "What makes an Exploitation Film?", and possibly even answer it.  Our opinions differ on what is actually good acting! Dave finally gets his favourite 'meet a celebrity' anecdote in.  We attempt to make a checklist for Japanese movies and we all possibly us the phrase "Alligator Vagina" too much.

Music Credits - KRS - 'One Sound of da Police' and  Lisa Lougheed- 'Run with Us'

    Episode 12 - American Podcast

    Episode 12 - American Podcast

This thrilling, pulse pounding, white knuckle ride of a sequel to Episode 11 sees the gang celebrate as they get through 2 film reviews without the mention of a certain popular HBO fantasy series.

We compare business cards over 'American Psycho', Dave shares his feeling of inadequacy and Andy fawns over Christian Bale, plus we (ahem) examine 'American Mary'.  Listen as Dave loses the ability to speak and Brad makes some astute observations regarding crime and punishment.

Other things getting a mention, at what point does horror become comedy and vica versa.  Also, we revisit Tangent City as we discuss the lack of female directors in top tier film making.

If you have any comments or questions please contact us at educatingbrad@gmail.com or on twitter @edubradpodcast or as always you can post on our facebook page

This episode we take a look at Dario Argento's 1977 Giallo horror 'Suspiria' and we travel to the extreme end of French cinema with 2008 horror 'Martyrs'.  Will Brad be able to take the technicolor vibrant world of Suspiria or will he end up under the spell of the witches and can he handle the bleak and dark, unrelenting brutality of Martyrs, can anyone?

Other things to look out for this episode, Dave and Andy take it in turns butchering another language, Brad finally finds a comrade in arms when it come to Game of Thrones (Dave and Andy are unimpressed) and Andy gets fairly angry about some views on one of his favourite films.  We all kiss and make up after the microphones off!

Is this the podcast that will finally break Brad's constant love of all things cinematic?

Other things to look out for this episode, we look back through Dave's dvd collection to search for the best media quotes slapped on to the front covers.  Brad gets a little mixed up when it comes to the films we are reviewing (we put it down to tiredness!) and Dave and Andy argue over the credentials of modern bad films vs 80's bad films, I'm thinking neither of us were right!

Also there's another History lesson from Brad, we try a novel method of dealing with a foreign language film trailer. Andy categorises his bad films in some sort of house share scheme and we get a little "YMCA" while digesting elements of Revenge of the Ninja.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Gommorah and Preacher all get a mention, along with the present state of comic book movies in general.

Episode 7 - Podcasters Under Siege

Episode 7 - Podcasters Under Siege

This episode sees the Educating Brad gang steer themselves away from horror and in to the Fantasy/Martial Arts genre, with 2003's Japanese Manga adaptation film 'Azumi' and 1985's cult martial arts favourite 'Gymkata'.  Let's just say there were mixed reactions all round to both movies!

Will Andy cope without limbs and guts everywhere? Can Dave contain his excitement for 'Gymkata' for a whole 45 minutes? Does it turn out that Brad could educate us all in the world of martial arts?  Tune in to find out.

Other things to listen out for.  Dave turns in to the most British man alive, Brad randomly decides to apologise to the World for a previous reaction to a podcast film and Andy almost breaks down in despair at the "pickle" he's got himself in to with the others reactions to 'Gymkata'.  We are also wondering whether Brad will ever stop mentioning 'Game of Thrones'

Music Credit - Eddie Money - Stranger in a Strange Land

Episode 6 - Podcasters Take Manhattan

Episode 6 - Podcasters Take Manhattan

This week on Educating Brad we view Phenomena and I Saw The Devil in a clash of styles!

Phenomena is a 1985 Dario Argento horror fantasy film with an early starring role for Jennifer Connelly and an amazing soundtrack!  I Saw The Devil is a 2010 revenge thriller that has gained instant cult classic status.  How will Brad get on?  The smart money suggests he'll have a whale of a time!

Also on the show this week: we're joined by an unexpected guest, more niche school day references.  Dave puts North Korea straight, Andy establishes his stance on revenge and Brad loves the monkey!

Episode 5 - The Fellowship of the Pod

Episode 5 - The Fellowship of the Pod

It's the late shift this week on Educating Brad as we delve in to the murky waters of horror comedy.  We inflict "the goriest movie ever made" on Brad as we take a look at Peter Jackson's 'Braindead' - our North American cousins will know this film as 'Dead Alive'.  Jackson's post LOTR career comes under the spotlight as well as Dave's preoccupation with subtext.

Also for discussion this week; late 90's stoner comedy 'Idle Hands', notable nowadays for being an early outing for one Jessica Alba.  Will the fashions and music hold up in the cold light of 2016? We're not betting on it.

Other stuff to listen out for, we toast Brad as he welcomes another child in to the world (this doesn't happen on air, although that would be spectacular) plus the gang disappear down the back alleys of Tangent City as more stories from our youth surface.

    Episode 4 - A New Pod

This week the gang fall in love with Dan Stevens as we take a look at 'The Guest', is it his piercing blue eyes or his glistening abs? Stay tuned! Also there's plenty of dirty talk as we possibly look a bit deep into the science of 2014's cult horror classic 'It Follows'.

Other things to look out for; Andy's amazing command of the editing facilities after dropping the c bomb!, Dave gets on his soapbox to make a point! And Brad manages to crowbar another Scream reference in to the discussion.

Music Credit: No Devotion - Night Drive

Episode 3: The Poddening/Bruce Campbell Special

Episode 3: The Poddening/Bruce Campbell Special

This week we introduce Brad to the Cult cinema hero, B Movie Icon and all round cinematic legend that is Bruce Campbell, but we leave the Evil Dead films alone for now.

Listeners will be amazed to hear that Brad has never seen a movie featuring the star of 'Sky High' and 'Waxwork 2: Lost in Time'!

Under review in this episode are 2002 high concept indie favourite horror/comedy 'Bubba Ho Tep', followed by William Lustig's 1988 slasher gem 'Maniac Cop' where we are thrilled to welcome Tom Atkins to the show.

Also in this episode: We reflect on our first podcasting experience, we all give thanks "pirate radio style", Dave amazes us all with his essay writing story, Andy briefly turns American, Brad continues his history lessons by telling us what life was really like in Ancient Egypt and we all worry that Brad's "climb in the TV moment" is becoming a thing!

    Episode 2 - The Revenge!

Episode 2 - The Revenge.  Our Sophomore effort sees Brad endure a nerve shattering time as Andy recommends modern cult horror 'The Descent' and the Cold War escalates quickly as Dave recommends Stuart Gordon's sci-fi classic 'Robot Jox'.  Will it be as good as he remembers?  Also getting a mention this week are Charles Band, childhood favourites and more "27%ers".  What films from your past hold up (or don't)?
