Oppenheimer: A Movie for All Seasons

On this episode we discuss Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer
But before that we discuss the passing of Michael Gambon and our trip to Hollywood to see Oppenheimer in IMAX 70mm at the TCL Chinese Theater

And to get us started we enjoyed a bottle of De Fermo's "Concrete" Rosato.  This was a surprising wine - a biodynamic Rosato of 100% Montepulciano.  The wine if from the Abruzzo region in Italy.  Visit your local wine shop and see if they have it, or ask if they can order it.

    Enjoy!

    The Bear (roars back!)

    The Bear (roars back!)

    Hello!

We delve deep into "The Bear" season 2 on this episode.  We discuss all things "The Bear," from the various plotlines to the characters, to the everything.

All this was done over a nice bottle of "Superbloom" from Las Jaras Wines.  This bottle was a treat, from the gradient of color to the various notes this wine hit.  The wine  was co-fermented with red and white grapes from Rhône varieties from a single vineyard.  Its described as a "California Table Wine," but don't let the name deceive you.  This was a fun bottle with a mosaic of flavors.

    Summer Sesh (July 2023)

    Summer Sesh (July 2023)

Hello and welcome to Summer, presented to Pop Culture By Volume!

We kick things of drinking  Hugues de Beauvignac (HB) Picpoul de Pinet, a refreshing white wine from France.  A great wine for a hot day with notes of apple, light citrus, and a hint of honey sweetness.

This episode is a bit of catchup where we discuss the closing of a beloved local natural wine shop, Good Luck Wine.  We also chit chat about Brad Leone's new YouTube channel, the soft opening of the MSG Sphere, more streaming show removals, the Miranda Sings controversy, Britney Spears' recent mishap, Taylor Swists rerererereleases, and end with some movie news.

As always, thanks for listening and enjoy!

The National - Album rankings and general notes

The National - Album rankings and general notes

    Hello and welcome back!

Since we are deep diving into the National what better drink to get us there than bourbon.  We started with Guadlupe from Garrison Brothers Distillery.  This bourbon was aged four years in toasted and charred white American oak barrels and an additional two years in port casks imported from Portugal.  This was a sweeter bourbon that is 107 proof  and 53.5% abv.
Then we switched to the classic cocktail, Old Fashioned.  We used Four Roses Bourbon (80 proof/40% abv), a bourbon we feel goes great in cocktails.

Enjoy our discussion ranking all The National studio albums and our general thoughts and notes on the band.

On this episode we enjoy a couple wines from Jumbo Time Wines.  We started with Story Time and moved onto Problem Child.  Both were quite enjoyable but we both preferred the more Problem Child's 50 / 50 co-ferment of Pinot Noir & Chardonnay from Hawkeye Ranch.

Listen to us wax and wane about the current news of the day like important celebrity deaths, the end of Yellowstone, WGA strike, Ed Sheeran's copyright lawsuit, the end of Aerosmith, the Rock and Roll HoF indictees, and the coronation of King Charles III.

Bonus Halloween Episode (conclusion of Bad Sisters and Halloween miscellanea)

Bonus Halloween Episode (conclusion of Bad Sisters and Halloween miscellanea)

On this episode we drink Paperback Brewing's Everyday Zombies West Coast IPA.  It's a West Coast IPA with enough hop flavor to wake the dead.
For the second half we imbibed on Aborigen's Clandestino Tinto red blend wine from Baja California, Mexico.   The wine is a syrah adn grenache blend with notes of currants, medium jammy-ness, and dried herbs and pepper.  This was a very fruit forward wine and quite enjoyable.

Today we finish up our conversation of Bad Sisters following the series finale.  Did you watch?  Did you enjoy it as much as we did?  Tell us your thoughts!
And finally, we wax on about Halloween and its associated miscellanea like trick or treating, candy, scary movies, and costumes.  Hope you enjoy!

In this episode we talk some current-ish pop culture news including the Queen's death, the movie "Don't Worry Darling," history, Arcade Fire, and Tom Hanks.

While chewing the fat, we drank an IPA from Ogopogo Brewing called "Yuki-Onna."  Yuki is a DDH Cold IPA brewed with Strata & HBC 586 Cryo.
And we followed that up with Talisker 10-Year-Old Scotch.  The Talisker 10 has been described as the stalwart of the Talisker family and is a powerful single malt whisky, with a sea-salty nose, spicy complexity, smoky sweet character and signature peppery finish.
