    Practical Prepping Podcast

Practical Prepping Podcast is for everyday people.Helping you become prepared for whatever emergencies come our way. Where gear is good, but knowledge is better, because the more you know, the less you have to carry. Whatever the emergency, natural disaster, or man-made events which may disrupt daily life from minutes to months... from running out of gas, getting snowed in, going through a hurricane or tornado, even an extended SHTF event, we all need to be prepared. The government isn't coming to help. WE ARE ON OUR OWN! Family friendly listening, as we promise to keep it clean! We don's do bunkers with years of supplies in order to repopulate the earth after TEOTWAWKI. We aren't preparing to survive a nuclear war (probably wouldn't want to survive that one.) We do prepare to survive the actual threats that we are most likely to face, and we want to help you get prepared for the threats that you will most likely face. We'll keep it practical. That's why it is called "Practical Prepping Podcast"Website: www.practicalprepping.info produced and provided by: www.prolinedesigns.us

Lessons Learned From The Great Depression, Treating Strep Throat, And A Tip To Protect The Food In Your Freezer

Lessons Learned From The Great Depression, Treating Strep Throat, And A Tip To Protect The Food In Your Freezer

It's important to study history and learn from the experiences.
The Great Depression, a challenging period in history, offers several lessons that can be applied to prepping.
This first segment is more about the hard times we may come to face, not about surviving some great apocalyptic event leaving us grid down for an extended times.
The 2nd segment details my recent bout with strep throat and an upper respiratory infection, which caused me to ponder how I would have fared in a grid-down situation. Third segment is some how-to's on keeping food long-term in the freezer.

Getting Started In Solar Power - An Interview With Chris Weatherman

Chris Weatherman, also known A. American, or Angery American, (not a typo) is the author of twenty-two books, including The Survivalist Series."  His book, "Going Home" was one of the early books in the post apocalyptic genre, and it's a good read.

Chris is a life-long student of survival skills, a teacher and speaker, and an expert on survival skills.

This is an interview with him, where we discuss getting started in solar power, and a little bit about HAM radio and it's importance in prepper communications.

The Potential For CCP Cyber Attacks Against The U.S. And What We Can Do.

The Potential For CCP Cyber Attacks Against The U.S. And What We Can Do.

Preppers are often concerned about the effects that an EMP or a CME would have on our world.
CME is something over which man has no control.
EMP is a politicized weapon of war that would cause and immediate world war.

What if there is a weapon of far greater danger, and could be unleashed on a single country, and effectively destroy that country, without firing a shot?

The Coming Changes For 2024 For Practical Prepping

The Coming Changes For 2024 For Practical Prepping

Practical Prepping is making some major changes for 2024, and we reveal those on today's episode.

The podcast has had a Facebook page for a long time, but in order to increase interaction and help members become a community, and to explore prepping efforts on a deeper level, we have started a private Practical Prepping Facebook group.
You are invited, and here's the link:  Practical Prepping Facebook Group.

We have reinstated our Twitter page (Now called X)
You can follow us here: @practicalprepp
We'll use this to share new episodes, important information (particularly weather info), news of interest, and things we believe you might like to see.

    "Question of the month"
For this segment, you can submit questions to be answered by listeners.
You can send your answers by a certain date. We'll share those answers in one segment.

    January question of the month:
How long have you been prepping and what caused you to start?
We need your reply by January 24, 2024

    A New Way To Communicate
Since the beginning we have had Email, and many of you have used that to communicate with us.
We have the Facebook page, and now we have the private Facebook Group, and the X page.
We've now added a way for you to leave a voice message. It's on the homepage, under or next to the Amazon link. (Don't worry, we edit so you'll sound great.) This is a great way to ask and answer questions

New for 2024, Practical Prepping will begin offering prepping personal coaching.
    Details to come...

Today, we're going to talk about setting our course with prepping goals for 2024 and how to reach them.

Why Do Some People Resist Prepping? We Explore Their Excuses.

Great Grandparents were preppers before prepping was cool. They just called it life. Their reason was to be prepared for the winter I order to live until they could harvest from the garden. We talk about some of the things they had to do, but more importantly we discuss some of the reasons the younger generations are resistant to prepping, and less inclined to be prepared.

Tennessee Tornadoes, And Staying Prepared In Case we Are In The Path Of A Tornado

Tennessee Tornadoes, And Staying Prepared In Case we Are In The Path Of A Tornado

Saturday, December 3, two days ago, an EF-3 tornado north of Nashville, killed six, injured many more, and left a path of destruction of around forty miles.
Even though tornadoes are not as common in December as they are in the Spring, they do happen.
Tornadoes can be incredibly destructive and pose a serious threat to life and property. It's critical that we have a plan in place and be prepared to act quickly when tornado warnings are issued.
So we want to review our tornado safety plan, and if we are missing something we can get ready before the spring tornado season.

School Shootings And Active Shootings Are A Mental Health Problem, Not A Gun Problem

We don't have a gun problem, we have a mental health problem; a mental health crisis.
That’s what we are going to talk about today as we identify some of the signs of mental health issues, AND some common characteristics and behaviors of those school shooters or active shooters.
We’ll also talk about some of the things you can watch for and possibly avoid a future shooting.

Who Really Is A Prepper, And Three Levels Of Preparedness

Who Really Is A Prepper, And Three Levels Of Preparedness

The TV show “Doomsday Preppers” painted the prepping world in a very unfavorable light, and some people base their opinion of prepping based on that show.

I keep reading in various groups and forums where some people are saying that you must do this or that to be a prepper.

Well, I tell you that you don’t have to do any particular thing or have to have something specific to be prepared.

On today’s episode we are going to talk about who really is a prepper, and three levels of preparedness.

Building An Emergency Kit For Your Vehicle

Building An Emergency Kit For Your Vehicle

We are five weeks from the anniversary of the Interstate 95 fiasco.
On January 4th, 2022, fifty miles of I-95 in Virginia was shut down with one inch of snow after traffic was backed up after a traffic accident.
Thousands were stranded for twenty-seven to thirty hours.
Most of them were inadequately prepared for such an event.
We are already seeing snow storms across the northeast, and we want YOU to be prepared in case you are stranded in a show or ice storm.
If you live in the southwest or south Florida where you very rarely see show, there are still lots of items here that you could use in your vehicle’s emergency kit

Staying safe, and protecting ourselves against terrorist attacks at crowded public events

Staying safe, and protecting ourselves against terrorist attacks at crowded public events

These are days of threatened attacks by terrorist groups and the craziness of random shootings and physical assaults. We’ve seen shootings in big box stores and other public places, as well as on the streets. We all remember the Boston Marathon bombing.

It is also a time of parades, tree lightings, community gatherings, and a whole lot of shoppers filling malls and stores. Being at these events and  in public places is ample reason to be taking personal safety precautions, and that is what we discuss on this episode, along with tips on identifying someone carrying a firearm.
