Work with Alex and have a more reliable path to play college baseball:  Alex's Premier Athletes Recruiting Program

We find ourselves in the prime of recruiting season, a crucial period that will unfold over the next 4 months. College coaches at all levels are actively engaging with players, conducting visits, and making offers. But the question on many parents' minds right now is: "Is Fall Ball worth it for my son?"

    Is there a better way?

First, let's ask, what are you trying to get out of fall ball?

    1. Is it exposure? If your aim is exposure, I'd like to share some insights that may change your perspective. Due to the NCAA's quiet period, D1 coaches are limited to watching, evaluating, and recruiting only on their campus at their specific camps and showcases. That means they won't be attending tournaments or other showcases to watch your son. Spending time and money on exposure during the quiet period might not be the best investment.

    2. Is it for playing time and reps? If it's playing time and repetition your son needs, Fall Ball can indeed be worth it. However, be mindful of your spending on tournaments around the country. Can your son play locally? That might be a more cost-effective option.

My recommendation? Focus on skill development, strength training in the weight room, and maximizing exposure at camps or showcases (during the contact period).

Feel free to reach out with any questions or if you need personalized guidance through the Premier Athletes Recruiting Program.

Wishing you and your son the best on this exciting path.

In today's episose, we are going to focus on a crucial aspect of the recruitment process: what do college coaches look for in a high school hitter? Here are the 5 things:

    1. Hit-ability: Coaches love a player who can consistently get the ball in play. They are looking for players who have the hand-eye coordination to make regular contact with the ball and the ability to adjust to different pitch types and locations.

    2. On-Base Ability: The importance of this cannot be overstated. The more often a player can get on base, the more opportunities their team has to score. Coaches appreciate players who demonstrate patience at the plate, the ability to work counts in their favor, and the knack for finding ways to get on base.

    3. Plate Discipline: This is all about a player's judgment at the plate. Coaches look for players who know the strike zone well and are disciplined enough to avoid chasing poor pitches.

    4. Swing: The swing itself is vital. Coaches look for players with a technically sound, quick, and compact swing that can produce consistent line drives.

    5. Game Power: Coaches are always in search of players who can change the game with one swing of the bat. A player's power can be a huge asset in the recruitment process, especially if they can combine it with the other elements listed above.

As a former Division 1 athlete, I know how important it is to make the right decision when it comes to choosing a school. I'll be discussing how Division 1 isn't the only level that can provide great opportunities and experiences, and how it's important to look at all levels to find the right fit for you. I'll also be sharing some tips on what to look for in a school, such as their track record and athletic standards. Remember, this is a big decision, so take your time and do your homework. The NCAA Division I Baseball Championship is structured as a tournament with 64 teams. These teams are chosen from an eligible pool of 300 teams, with 30 being awarded an automatic bid as champions of their conferences, and 34 being selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. 16 teams are given national seeds, and have the option of hosting a super regional if they advance to the second round. The tournament consists of four stages:

Regionals: The 64 teams are divided into 16 brackets of four teams each.

Each bracket is conducted as a double-elimination tournament, meaning a team isn't eliminated until they lose two games.

Super Regionals: The winners of the regionals, a total of 16 teams, move on to the super regionals.

These teams are split into eight pairings and compete in a best-of-three series.

Men's College World Series (MCWS): The eight winners of the super regionals proceed to the MCWS in Omaha, Nebraska.

Here, the teams are divided into two double-elimination brackets of four teams each.

Men's College World Series Finals: The winners of the two MCWS brackets meet in the MCWS Finals, which is a best-of-three series to decide the NCAA champion.

The Men's College World Series is the final stage of the NCAA Division I baseball tournament. After two rounds of play (the regionals and super regionals), there are just eight teams left.

These teams head to Omaha, Nebraska, for the MCWS, which is the culmination of the tournament.

Regionals start this Friday on ESPN!

The journey to college, particularly for student-athletes, can be both exciting and challenging. The college recruiting process, specifically for baseball, is often complicated and requires considerable planning and knowledge.

A critical part of that journey is understanding the different types of scholarships possibly available to your son.

Today, I wanted to shed light on four scholarships your high school baseball player could be eligible for to help you better navigate the college recruiting process.

To help you get a more in-depth understanding of each of these scholarships, I've created a detailed discussion on my YouTube channel and podcast.

Today, I wanted to shed light on four scholarships your high school baseball player could be eligible for, to help you better navigate the college recruiting process:

    1. Athletic Scholarships – These are awarded based on a student's athletic performance and potential contribution to the college's team. Keep in mind that competition is fierce, but with exceptional talent and the right exposure, your student could benefit immensely.

    2. Academic Scholarships – If your student-athlete shines in the classroom as well as on the field, academic scholarships might be their ticket to a top-notch education. These scholarships reward students for their academic achievements, leadership roles, and high test scores, among other factors.

    3. Need-Based Scholarships – These are awarded based on financial need. If your family income falls below a certain threshold, your student may qualify for a need-based scholarship, reducing the financial burden of a college education.

    4. Merit-Based Scholarships – These scholarships are given to students who have shown exceptional talents, skills, or achievements in various fields beyond athletics or academics. This could include community service, leadership, arts, and more.

Players can generally be classified into three categories based on the level of interest they receive from coaches: cold interest, warm interest, and hot interest.

In today’s episode, I would like to outline some strategies to help you transition through these stages and ultimately secure a spot on the best college fit for you.

    1) Cold Interest:

    * At this stage, players have not yet caught the attention of college coaches. Two reasons for this are 1) They are winging it and hope to be found at travel tournaments. 2) They are not targeting schools that are a good fit athletically and may not be recruiting for their position. It is essential to take proactive measures to put them on the radar of college coaches.  a. Find schools that are a good fit for you athletically and academically. b. Reach out to coaches directly: Players should express their interest in the program and provide a brief overview of their skills and accomplishments.

    2) Warm Interest

    * At this level, players have generated some interest from college coaches, but they need to continue developing their skills and marketing themselves effectively. a. Enhance communication: Ensure that players maintain regular contact with coaches, providing updates on their progress, academic standing, and any new achievements. b. Ask questions: Players should ask questions about what they are looking for in their position and if they could be a possible good fit.c. Develop strong relationships with coaches: Players should work closely with their coaches familiar with college baseball, who can serve as valuable resources and advocates in the recruiting process.

    3) Hot Interest:

    * Players in this category have garnered significant attention from college coaches with personal phone calls, texts, Facetimes, and campus visits. It is crucial to help them navigate this stage effectively and make informed decisions. a. Leverage other interests: If other schools are interested in the player, leverage that with other schools  b. Conduct campus visits: If the player hasn't been invited yet for a campus visit go visit campus personally and let coaches know when you will be there.  c. Maintain high performance: Players should continue to excel both on and off the field, demonstrating their dedication and work ethic to prospective coaches.

By implementing the strategies discussed in today's episode, you can attract and maintain the interest of college coaches, increasing your chances of securing a spot on a college baseball team.

I look forward to discussing these ideas.
