    In this week’s episode, I am joined by Pam R. Johnson Davis to discuss the importance of keeping your focus steady. To avoid the temptation to look to our left and our right while running our race, and to, of course, make sure that you are never allowing there to be any unpaid passengers on your journey.  

    Pam is an award-winning poet, author, singer/songwriter, and educator residing in Chicago, IL. She loves to write, especially as she navigates life, love, and loss. Her first book, Seasons (I'll Be Seeing You) garnered numerous accolades, including the coveted 2021 Readers' Favorite Book Award in Poetry. Her solo album, Call Home, a collection of original music and poems, won Gold at the One Earth Awards and continues to be played in countries around the world. Her highly-anticipated second book of poetry, No Unpaid Passengers, was released on September 1st, 2022 and is now available for purchase on Amazon. Pam holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s in History, which informs her understanding of the world and often shows up in her writing.     LaToya Gaines, Psy.D. is a Clinical Psychologist with years of experience treating children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Gaines began her educational studies at Montclair State University where she received a B.A. in Psychology. She went on to receive her M.A. in Psychological Studies and Ed.S. in School and Community Psychology from Seton Hall. Upon completion, LaToya worked as a School Psychologist at elementary and middle schools within the Paterson Public School District. Dr. Gaines received a Psy.M. and Psy.D. in clinical psychology with a Multicultural concentration from the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) at Rutgers University. She did her clinical internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Yale School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry. Throughout her training and career, Dr. Gaines has worked in a variety of settings including Paterson Public Schools, The Rutgers Foster Care Counseling Project (in collaboration with the Division of Child Protection & Permanency), The Haven, a school-based mental health program, Rutgers Psychological Services Clinic, Newark Beth Israel Hospital Regional Diagnostic Treatment Center, West Haven Mental Health Clinic, Fordham University Counseling & Psychological Services, and Rutgers Newark University Counseling Center. In 2019, she opened a practice called Culture of Wellness, LLC which provides individual, couples, and family counseling as well as psychological assessment to children, adolescents, and adults. She also provides mental health and consultation services to local school districts.

    Dr. Veronica Hardy is a full-time professor at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, a licensed clinical social worker, and an author. As a clinical professional, she has provided counseling to persons ranging from children to adults on life experiences including anxiety, depression, and daily life transitions. Throughout her career, she has sought to communicate about the importance of mental health and wellness through individual, family, and group counseling services; public speaking events, as well as through her writings in academic journals, local magazines, and a spiritually-based workbook-style publication titled, A Letter to My Sisters: Reflecting on God’s Promises. Dr. Hardy grounds herself in reaching out to the community and creating awareness of social issues including child sex trafficking, racial disparities in schools, as well as intimate partner violence. More recently, due to Covid-19, she has sought to expand her outreach about mental health through the venue of a podcast titled, “There is Power in Your Story”, named after a yearly empowerment event she organized for her community.
