Ep 25: "What Could It Hurt" with Kirsten "Dr. K" Shepard-Ahmed

On this week's episode, I talk with Kirsten "Dr. K" Shepard-Ahmed, owner of PainStopper Inc. an amazing whole-body health care CBD company. This was such an interesting conversation about life, overcoming injuries and the history of the cannabis industry.  She was inspired to become a chiropractor herself after a chiropractor finally helped her relieve her pain after a car accident. She got into the cannabis industry after her experience being a caretaker for her father while he was undergoing cancer treatment. When she saw how much it helped him, she began developing her own CBD products and her company took off from there.

Ep 24: "Just Keep Going" with Z Briggs & Chad Williams of Wonderspark Puppets

Ep 24: "Just Keep Going" with Z Briggs & Chad Williams of Wonderspark Puppets

On this week's episode, I talk with Z & Chad of Wonderspark Puppets in NYC. They are married, co-owners of the business as well as being parents to two young boys. We talk about their careers in puppeteering, how they successfully adapted their live-action puppet show business to thrive digitally in the pandemic and what life has been like for them during COVID in New York City.  My favorite quote from this episode is from Chad, "If you've been kicking the can down the road...the can has come home to roost."

Z Briggs got her professional start doing puppetry in 2004 and has worked for the Jim Henson Foundation for many years. She is the artist and builder behind all of their puppets and she is masterful at her craft.  In addition, she is currently fulfilling her lifelong dream of being involved with Sesame Street as the voice/puppeteer for Foley on the Sesame Street Podcast! You can listen to that podcast on Audible or click the link here: https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Sesame-Street-Podcast-with-Foley-and-Friends-Podcast/B08L4ZN4KM

Chad Williams is the full-time puppeteer/writer/director for Wonderspark Puppets but he didn't originally start out in puppetry. He was deep in the film and media world when he and Z reconnected and decided to get married and join forces as Wonderspark Puppets! Throughout the pandemic, Chad has not only brought their company into this new era of online programming but he taught countless workshops to others to help them learn to stream their work online. In fact, he was instrumental in helping me to get this show off the ground, so if you love Reach the Stars Podcast, please go check out their website or social media and give Chad some love for helping to make this happen.

With less overhead, zero travel expenses, amazing support from friends / fans and a constant stream of interest for live virtual programming, their company did well in 2020. It was a mad dash to establish what they do and to continue to generate interest but they ended the year strong and are looking forward to continue streaming long after the pandemic is over.

Ep 23: "Silver Linings Of The Pandemic" with Stella Orange

Ep 23: "Silver Linings Of The Pandemic" with Stella Orange

In this week's episode, I talk with professional storytelling copywriter, Stella Orange. We discuss parenting during the pandemic and ponder the possible silver linings of this tumultuous time in our history.

Also mentioned were Adrienne Marie Brown and her podcast she hosts with her sister, How to Survive the End of the World. Check that show out here: https://www.endoftheworldshow.org/

I also made reference to the song Doctor My Eyes by Jackson Browne. Here is a great video of it and the lyrics:
Doctor, my eyes have seen the years
And the slow parade of fears without crying
Now I want to understandI have done all that I could
To see the evil and the good without hiding
You must help me if you can
    Doctor, my eyes
    Tell me what is wrong
Was I unwise to leave them open for so long?'
Cause I have wandered through this world
And as each moment has unfurled
I've been waiting to awaken from these dreams
People go just where they will
I never noticed them until I got this feeling
That it's later than it seems
    Doctor, my eyes
    Tell me what you see
    I hear their cries
Just say if it's too late for me
    Doctor, my eyes
    They cannot see the sky
    Is this the prize
For having learned how not to cry?

Ep 19: "Don't Fight the Fall" with Meshell Baker

Ep 19: "Don't Fight the Fall" with Meshell Baker

In this week's episode, I talked to Meshell Baker--highly renowned speaker and business coach with quite the story to tell. After being incarcerated in her youth, Meshell was bound and determined to succeed in her life. She began to rise to the top of every job she ever held and eventually started her own company, Meshell Baker Enterprises, LLC.

We talked about hitting rock bottom, not giving up, serendipity, creativity, courage and changing your mindset...and more! This episode is a long one but it is so so worth the time to listen to the whole thing. Meshell has so much wisdom and we had such a great conversation because as she said, "This is what happens when you get people together who truly love what they do!" Enjoy the experience of our joyous conversation.

I mentioned a song by my band, BloodThirsty Vegans. The line I mentioned was, "Why they work so hard on tryin' to divide us? Could it be that they're afraid of what's inside us?"
It is called All Winners, written by Alex Mead aka My Rap Name is Alex. You can hear that song here: https://bloodthirstyvegans.bandcamp.com/track/all-winners
